I want to share my finding following the game update to IC.
Have played for several months and levelled my sorcerer to vr16. Since the patch he is a heck of a lot weaker, in so many ways. I mainly use dual wield swords with mage skill set up to empower the frag. I have a harden shell shield and unbound aegis. This leaving one spot which atm I am using the aoe curse which is also a good set up for a frag if it procs. On the other hand I have a pve set up for aoe ing, using a desto staff.
I know the dual shielding needed to be dealt with but since the update having a shield on is almost meaningless. I have been one-shotted by npcs and players even when I have a full shield and health. The shield barely covers a 1/4 of the health bar and tends to disappear after one hit. Mostly I find it stops me from dying in two hits from normal mobs.
To me it also seems our damage has been nerfed beyond that of other classes. My spell power/damage is just over 3k and if I use a mage ability as a set up for crystal frags (empower) then I will hit a level 16 mob in IC for about 15% of their health. Without empower its 5-10% I sometimes run with a sword and board DK who has a purely defensive build and his light attacks do the same as my un-empowered attacks but I will run out of mana.......
Fighting with a Templar or a NB shows you just how weak you are. They are hitting the mob for 30-50% of their health something that me and other sorcs I play with just cannot do even with our ultimate. Dawn breaker is the best doing about a 1/3 of the mobs (norm level 16 IC mob) but I suspect that is because the mobs are mostly undead or deadra.
I can safely kill one level 16 mob, taking a bit of damage, 2 mobs and there is a chance of death 3 mobs and I will most probably die. Its mostly because I run out of mana. Regen seems to have also been reduced. I kill 2 mobs and that's about it for my mana (36k) Then if there are more mobs its either run away or try and meele/staff.
Our attack damage in pvp, I know, has been reduced. However I think it has gone too far. When I am fighting level vr1-6 class, casting 4-5 crystal frags into them, combining this with curses, empowering the frag, shielding etc I am finding that, whereas I use to be able to kill a low vr rank with 2-3 spells, now 5-6 spells landing results in the enemy losing around 50% of their health and me most of my mana. You can guess the result.
I know a lot of other people who play other classes will say we had it too good for too long but OMG we suck now. We are not a glass cannon anymore more like a leaking glass water pistol.
I do wonder if perhaps I have just not adapted to the changes and am using the wrong skill set, or perhaps need to change my build to a stamina sorc? I was fooling around with d mines and the fire rune which can do well in such enclosed spaces. Is the shield even worth it anymore, is the bound aegis armour?
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
