You Cannot Communicate with this Player

Hi,

Since the patch I have had the error 'You Cannot Communicate with this Player' when trying to send group invites.

Other people also get the error when trying to group with me. In the last group 3 people attempted it and got the same error.

My status is set to online so that shouldn't be the issue. I have been away for a few weeks and have only been getting this error since the new IC patch.

Also, I get 'that player does not exist' and have done since launch when trying to send in-game mail to certain players (not all players but most).

Is the above a known issue?

    I don't show up on guild rosters.

    My online status won't update. Different components of the megaservers and maybe the game client may not be "communicating" correctly.

    I hope I'm not stuck like this. Don't want to get kicked from a trade guild because the GM thought I was inactive.

    I'm also having the same issue and sent a "ticket" from my Xbox about it. I hope it gets fixed soon.

    I am having the exact same problem. Just got the game a couple of days ago and I can't join groups or trades, even I I'm not the one trying to initiate it. I can join groups through matchmaking though.

    I am also having the same issue. It has been 5 days now. I have tried everything under the sun. I have sent a ticket in each day and each day I get a cookie cutter reply saying check out these generic links.... but no real person has replied or offered any suggestion or insight into the issue.

    Again, day 5 and I have been unable to trade or group up.... very frustrating.

    Does anyone in this thread have any advice or have any luck trying anything?

    After reading up I think it may have something to do with online status.... but from what I see there is no way on XB1 to change your status to Online or offline.... is there? Where is it? The only thing I have found is the filter to search in your guild other mates that are online, offline or dont bother... but I cant find where you change your status on console....

    Alright folks I think I found a solution. I fooled around with some settings on the Xbox one itself. In Privacy & online safety I previously had it set to custom, which I then changed to "Adult defaults." I have no idea why this would work, but before I tried it I was having the issue and after, I wasn't. Let me know if this works for you guys.

    Thanks for you reply and for looking into it. (likely 100% more than ESO support).

    It is a non fix for me. Still having the same issue unfortunately. Glad it works for you and hope it works for others but I am still holding my breath for my ticket. Now on day 7 will no reply or anything.....

    I've been having same issue. Cannot receive guild invites, invite to group, or send mail in-game because I "cannot communicate with that player". Multiple tickets and only silence from customer support. They were quick to respond with an access to forums issue, but absolutely nothing about this. Nothing I've tried has worked.

    Same issue for me - going on 7 days too. I opened a ticket, but have not received a response yet. I thought I saw this on a known issues list somewhere, so hopefully the resolution comes soon. I just started to attempt group dungeons - haven't been able to play a single match yet.

    So it makes no sense, but I changed my privacy settings on Xbox from custom to adult and it fixed all my communication issues. Not sure why it worked because I've not changed my privacy settings since starting ESO. I'd give it a try though. Good luck!

    I got an official response confirming that this is a privacy settings issue. So, the fix mentioned above is the correct answer. I tried it tonight but could not confirm if it worked because no one wanted to group up (sadtrombone.com).
