Gaming Company Successes & Failures

I dont know for sure but it seems that zenimax really didnt and dose not pay attention to the success & failures of other gaming companies. You would think they would want to follow successful examples made by other gaming companies and avoid their failures but it dont seem that they really are? I'm thinking about one unnamed gaming company in particular that has made a lot of success. But this gaming company had released their 2nd MMO and it was a fail. I never bought that game(until it was fixed) and I dont know how much it really failed but I do know it was a fail. This company did something that I will always respect them for and this was taking their broken game off line. They didnt expect their fan base to pay for something that was broken and really not worth paying for wile they worked on fixing it. I really think that was the honorable and respective thing to do. AND the next WONDERFUL step that was made from them is that they FIRED the dev team that screwed up on it. They got a new and competent dev team that took the game apart and revamped it from the ground up. THEN after it was actually fixed and worthy to be re-opened they put it back online and now it has over 4 mil players. So, we see their fail and what they did about it then we see their success because they did what was actually the right thing to do for their fans and for them selfs. Also its had a lot of content added ever since re-open and now they just came out with their 1st major expansion.

zenimax gave us a late alpha game in my opinion and its been in beta for a long time if not still in beta condition. I wont go into all the many, many, many things that was wrong and completely broken on release but for all of you that was their you know what it was like. I payed them $80 for this game then was paying them the $15 + taxes monthly fee and was thinking that they would quickly address everything in a timely fashion but man was I so very wrong. I'm a hard core Elder Scrolls fan and stayed around hoping they would change and quickly fix things and add the missing content right away. And there was some good things that I liked about ESO and that also kept me around as well. But now we got this last patch and all the crappy things that its done and zenimax thinks its acceptable that 50% hate it & a SO CALLED 50% like it. And even IF I was gunna actually believe what they are saying about this 50/50 statement its still bad because its not a majority approval by the players. Thats far from good or OK and I believe they said that they was not gunna change their minds on it either. For all the hideous and blatant mistakes that this company has made have we ever heard them apologize publicly for it? I could spend hours here going over the history of how zenimax has handled and not handled ESO but I'm not gunna waste that sort of time, plus there are those that have eyes and already know(many of which have left this game already). So, its been how many months now and whats the condition of ESO? They fix something then break something else and then how long dose it take for them to correct those mistakes and that is if they even bother to fix some or even all the bugs. Its a never ending rinse wash repeat method of theirs and they are making money off it laughing all the way to the bank! I hope that zenimax some how makes ESO great but for now I sadly have my doubts. And I wanna wish yall good luck with your magicka builds cuz who knows when they are gunna take the megalithic nerf hammer to those and make you start over again and be forced to re-roll a new race/class.

    I think a big thing is that it's b2p

Player retention is of little importance compared to minimal operating costs.

B2P didn't hurt this game as much as the first 90 days did.

First 90 days couldn't even play with husband because of the way questing worked.

We use the grouping too....oh, wait. No, we don't.

Ok then, we got to a well populated area and shout that we're looking for bodies for instances. And I do mean SHOUT....because we need to get our voices heard over the music and ware hawkers.

Oh....dammit, I'm in the wrong effing channel. Nobody's in this guild channel....I'd better switch to public chat, and hopefully I can ask the guy who's on the other side of the map....oh. Crap. Nope, can't do that either.

Back to the grouping tool I guess....

Wouldn't it be nice if Molag Bal succeeded in capturing Tamriel?

And finally years later, after Akatosh sorted this mess out, we're back.

ya ZOS has made mistakes i haven't seen for 10 - 15 years in the MMO market, pretty shocking. they have tried to follow successful models/systems like B2P (guild wars 2 for example is a successful B2P) the Champion system (very similar to Dark Age of Camelots PVP rank system) and Imperial City (again, much like Labyrinth of the minatour expansion from DAoC, more than likely influenced by Matt Firor who i believed worked on that game).

they were great ideas but executed poorly. what made the PVP rank system in DAOC so great for example, was there was NO vertical progression. everything was Utility/horizontal progression. the PVP Rank system was designed to give you more options in PVP, not an advantage over the other players skill. the ESO champion system is all vertical progression. percentages giving you more health/damage/resists/regens/powerful unique passives etc. thats why the champion point gap is such an imbalanced problem.

they really should play some other MMOs to get some ideas of what works and what doesn't work. i remember seeing a video with Matt Firor and Paul Sage where they were asked if they enjoyed the game. they said they had busy lives/families and didnt have much time to play outside the office. i think there in lye's the problem. they are so out of touch with the market to the point they have no idea what is out there or what people are looking for in an MMO.

if they dont want to hear it from us here on the forums, they should consider doing their own research to see what is successful and what isn't. they cant afford to keep making mistakes and tarnishing their reputation. if ESO flops, jaded consumers will think twice before investing their money in another ZOS product.

I'm pretty sure ZoS was created to make this game and will be quietly dissolved once eso is gone

By finding a good guild and friends then we make runs with them. It's not as bad as some want to make it out to be.A lot of players have made do without it and are enjoying the game.

They should completely revamp this game and call it ESO:NGE.

Anyone know if John Smedley is looking for work?

Yup I know I`ll never buy any product that Zos works on, or publishes in the future I have given up on them and consider them to be incompetent and untrustworthy.

Yeah it really just plays like a co-op game rather then an mmo. Sadly on ps4 2% of players have completed their starting factions 5 dungeons so most people are having trouble.

I haven't seen a good, accurate marketing campaign for a game in a really long time.

Hype just doesn't cut it anymore. But I guarantee that somewhere out there, somebody is looking at Evolve and blaming the players for the game failing. The players didn't understand the different editions. The players didn't understand how the game was supposed to be balanced. The players didn't understand all the research and development that completely justified $60 for such little actual content.

Orrrrr maybe players just recognize an over-hyped cash shop Skinner Box when they see one.

Never let a game company become predatory. I think it's an essential duty of a gaming community to hold a game company to high standards. Yes, somebody will spend a few hundred dollars on extra Candy Crush levels, but when we stand together, we should expect more, protect each other, and make sure that everybody's getting the value out of the game that they're paying for whether it's just one payment or many.

Because the moment you start questioning how honest the communications are or how valued you are as a player, it's probably best to just walk way. I've walked away from a few games this year because the companies stopped appreciating their players and went full-on wallet-milking mode. One knuckleheaded production nerfed subscriber benefits by over 50% to 'preserve their game economy.' In other words, enhance their microtransactions and try to make more money off the people who already subscribed who are now getting fewer benefits. I don't expect that game to be around this time next year.

It's a long, hard road for any gaming community. You'll have haters. You'll have apologists. You'll have people who are perpetually unsure. The best way to enjoy your game is to understand your own relationship with it - why you love it, what value it brings to you, and what it would take for you to walk away from it. We'll never agree on that part - it's different for everyone. But whatever you think, you're right.

ESOTU, however was the start of the decline.

Just Talking to ppl and the consoles have a whole world of options outside of the game. It's pretty simple unless you're new to consoles....PC to console seems just fine as I prefer not having text chat in order to play and not be interrupted or slowed down by typing and trying to read while playing.

All in all of the grouping tools were flawless it would be perfect
