Feel clueless at pvp..

Can any decent players give me some tips? Feel so out of place in pvp I'm considering just returning to WoW.. I find it boring but I feel very competent playing my rogue in pvp..

I'm trying to learn how to play a magicka nightblade. I got my build and gear from Dark Opportunity's videos on youtube. But I just have no idea..

WoW is obviously a simpler game.. I knew what skills to use to open on someone and what skills to use defensively.. In ESO I really just am not grasping it. Perhaps that it's more twitchy based alone is causing me trouble.. At 46 my reflexes probably not what they used to be. But I'd really like to give it a better go before I abandon this game.

Perhaps it also has to do with most videos being smaller scale fighting then Ive found myself engaging in. But anyway..

Is there some usual opening moves I should be trying for on my NB? Do I open with crippling grasp for the root/snare? Is concealed weapon a move I should be spamming? Do I want to Dark cloak after I use an ability for defense? I've read about using light attacks for animation cancelling but I dont know what this is..

On my attack bar I have 1) dark cloak 2) crippling grasp 3) concealed weapon 4) structured entropy 5) inner light Ult) soul harvest

This game seems neat.. Was hoping to play this until Crowfall launches but I really need to get the hang of pvp or frustration will get to me. Any tips will be appreciated.

Crippling grasp is not really a strong opener. It makes your opponent aware of you, and unless you're casting it from right next to them, they'll be out of range of your Concealed Weapon.

I wouldn't say spam Concealed Weapon -- use it whenever you can though. Hit with Concealed Weapon, and unless they are stunned you should take a defensive action. Try using Mass Hysteria afterwards, or cloak up and use a ranged attack, like Crippling Grasp. Mix it up.

Dark Cloak and Concealed Weapon or Dark Cloak and Teleport Strike are usually your best openers. Your spell damage comes from attacking while in cloak, and Structured Entropy, which you are smart to be using. If you spam anything spam Dark Cloak.

Also keep in mind Dark Cloak proc's the Shadow Barrier, which buffs your armor. You'll need to keep that buff up as much as can or you won't last long. Any situation where you're not cloaked and the enemy is not CC'd or debuffed, you are extremely vulnerable.

I run pretty much the exact same thing. And i too spent years with WoW playing a rogue. Yes conceal is your backstab/sinister strike/mutilate/hemo in this game.

Open with Conceal from stealth for stun, crippling if out of stealth. Use dark cloak defense and offense. Again, dark cloak plus conceal equals stun. Make sure to use entropy early in the fight for max damage and try to always follow entropy with conceal or cripple if at range.

Light attacke animation cancel (weaving for short) just means you will use a light attacke then immediatly (like .1 second later) use concealed weapon or any other ability.

Hope this helps! This game is a bit reflex based but no more so than WoW was.

thank you for replies. I'm sure I just need to pvp more and then more and more... I have not mastered my keybinds yet.. (which is silly since we had so many more in WoW) but I'm sure it will help as I get more comfortable with my set up.

sounds like cloaking after any offensive move (unless 1v1 where my opponent is cc'ed) is pretty important to survival.

How well does cloak work? Like do I need to get behind my opponent or should I be able to get an opener even when running up front side? I think WoW stealth might have me spoiled.

Just sounds like you need more time. For example you said you haven't mastered your key binds, so that says a lot. Maybe consider joining a dueling guild like Legend or Arena if you're EU. You'll get more fights in and can practice combos more quickly sparring than in open pvp.

Couple of other things, I suggest using Funnel Health as a good ranged option and self heal -- as long as you don't get it reflected back at you. Put it on the bar opposite from Crippling Grasp, and both weapon sets will have +8% magicka bonus. Also keep in mind you get +25% movement bonus with Cloak, so combining that with Crippling Grasp is a very strong combo.

Wasn't Wow that game, which was so imbalanced that one fanboy made a (PvP-)video with a "naked" ganker, to demonstrate how op they are, since their skills do even very high damage, when no armor, and no valuable-weapon are in use.. +
I found it so funny..! (was in the first year)

Yeah but that was all changed years ago. Just goes to show how far along it has come, and hiw all mmo games like eso here must go through years of tweaking and still have issues and imbalances pop up.

That's not a bad bar. As a magicka NB if you are out of cloak you are vulnerable. Spend as little time as possible out of cloak would be my first advice.

One of the biggest difference from WoW to ESO is that your build (skills, stats, gear type) are extremely important. It's not so much that there is a "right" setup, but there are right setups for your play style. Determine what you want to do. Mold your in that frame.

Make sure you have food on, and use potions. On my magicka NB magicka, spell crit, spell power "tri-pots" and detection, spell power are two of my favorite pots.
