Nightblade PVP Tank Build

Tanoros
Tanoros
I'm about to roll an alt to play with friends, and due to the lack of tanks I would like to go tank. However i LOVE to pvp and i was wondering if anyone could share any viable nightblade tank bulds for pvp. I greatly appreciate any help out there. Thanks!

Well hopefully you know that tanks don't really exist in pvp, just tanky players... You can do a sap tank build, which will allow you to stay alive longer than anyone else in your group other than maybe a tanky templar, but you won't do tons of damage. 5 heavy armor > Siphoning attacks toggle > sap essence all the things. You can stay up forever but all you can really do efficiently is distract people. You will hit like a truck- a tonka truck.

edit- I should make it clear that I'm not trying to discourage you from it. It really is fun to play a sap tank, it's just not particularly useful in most situations in the current meta.

I've been doing pretty well running my Sword and Board NB build as a pure Stamina NB. I couldn't tell you about SAP tanking but if you want the ability to tank multiple people and be able to switch to pure offense you could run 2 hander and sword and board. With the Sword and board I find Deep Slash to be amazing against groups of players as it will hit 3 targets with AOE apply a -15% Damage debuff to them and a -60% Slow to them while doing pretty decent damage.

Absorb magic is amazing when you're facing a Sorc or Magicka NB and provides a great source of healing. I'm rocking anywhere between 3100 and 4000 Stamina regen depending which buffs I'm rocking so It's pretty impossible for me to run out of stamina no matter how much I block/dodge roll etc.

I guess i should have said tanky pvp build. Going in and harrasing would be something Id look at doing. I was thinking along the lines of the second comment which mentioned going SB/two hand. I hope I can find something that is fun and helpful to the group.

If you build a sap tank, use Caltrops and Mass Hysteria to be useful to your group and stay alive longer.
Probably Soul Tether on your first bar as an emergency heal, since you have no selfheal like DK/Templar.
    DAGON - ALTADOON - CHIM - GHARTOK
The Covenant is broken. The Enemy has won...

    Elo'dryel - Sorc - AR 50 - Hopesfire - EP EU

Deep slash is far more useful to keep your group alive than caltrops IMO. And yeah Soul Tether is great for your S&B bar other than the heals you'll get from Absorb Magick (which are constant in my experience).

S&B Bar> Deep Slash, Piercing Mark, Absorb Magick, Mass Hysteria, Double-take > Soul Tether
2 Hander Bar> Crit Charge, Executioner, Grim Focus, Rally, Wrecking Blow > Incapacitating Strike

    Gearing

    Skirmisher Helm
    Medium Night's Silence Chest (Nirnhoned)
    Medium Night's Silence Shoulders (Nirnhoned)
    Skirmisher Belt
    Skirmisher Boots
    Skirmisher Gloves
    Skirmisher Legs

    Shadow Walker Ring
    Shadow Walker Band
    Shadow Walker Neck

Night's Silence Sharpened 2 Hand Mace
Night's Silence Sharpened 1 Hand Mace
    Night's Silence Shield (Nirnhoned)

    Vet 10 Blue Stam/Magicka drink
Warrior Mundus (Shadow could be better I still need to run testing)

All of my gear is legendary where possible, enchanted with legendary Health on all but two pieces (gloves + belt which are stam) and my weapons are enchanted with fire.

Basically you keep everyone attacking you slowed and maimed with deep slash, keep Absorb magick up at all times (and animation cancel it so people aren't aware they're healing you by attacking you). Your primary attack is going to be deep slash, keep your piercing make on magicka nightblades or if you need a dirty heal one of those dwemer bots (when it is killed or fades you'll get a free heal). Keep your opponents feared as soon as their immunity is gone and keep double-take up at all times (also serves as an escape).

When your opponents run out of stamina or show a moment of weakness, switch to two-hander (need to do this periodically to refresh grim focus + rally regardless) and burst them down.

It takes some skillful play to pull of but I'm getting a lot better at it. Also keep block held at all times with S&B up to keep ult generation going and to reduce damage. If things get hairy, dodge roll around your nearest LoS object and double-take /roll spam your way out of gap-closer range. You can chase down a max-speed horse by sprinting with this build and spamming double-take every 4 seconds.

Yeah Siphoning strikes isn't going to be effective as stamina. If you plan on solo-diving zergs then you'll do much better with a SAP-tank build but I haven't seen a SAP tank in all that effective lately and I've killed quite a few of them solo recently with this build.

My Champions points are placed as such:

    Mage: All in Mighty
Warrior: Split between Crit Damage reduction, Magic damage reduction and elemental reduction
Thief: Half to stamina regen, 1/4 to magicka regen and 1/8 to dodge cost reduction, 1/8 to stam cost reduction.

I just did a major rebalancing last night so I may be forgetting a minor skill I used for a 10 point passive somewhere but that's the basic split.

Cool man. Im gona give this a whirl! Should I put my points all into health? Or throw a lil into stamina? But that sounds like a really fun set up.

Any recomend ability to use over caltrops until i get it unlocked?

Deep slash is far more useful to keep your group alive than caltrops IMO. And yeah Soul Tether is great for your S&B bar other than the heals you'll get from Absorb Magick (which are constant in my experience).

Do you have a guide you could link? Or just a build suggestion? I really would appreciate it

I really like the sound of that build. And nice set up. It works well without siphoning strikes? Also how do you place your attribute points?

My attributes are 45 points into stam I think and the rest into health. That's why my enchants are almost all health. You can do it either way. Now that I think about it it would have been far cheaper for me to respec my attributes into all health instead of wasting Kuta changing the enchant on my gear from Stam to health.

Also I forgot to mention I'm a werewolf not a vampire. With all the dawnbreakers going on out there you definitely dont want to be a vampire if you plan on front line fighting with your nightblade. Vamps are best a magicka nightblades and stealth gank stamina blades.

I'm about to roll an alt to play with friends, and due to the lack of tanks I would like to go tank. However i LOVE to pvp and i was wondering if anyone could share any viable nightblade tank bulds for pvp. I greatly appreciate any help out there. Thanks!

How on earth do you actually get 4000 stamina regen ?
Any chance you could list the recipe ?

I spent a fortune stacking 2/3 piece of 5 set stamina gear with 62 stamina.
Never got anything like that lol.
I gave up and went back to an +armour stacking blocking build :/

I was beginning to believe its DPS build or GTFO cyrodiil.
Tanks are just a quickie punchbag with the damage floating around.

Don't even have the stamina to block/breakfree

I guess i should have said tanky pvp build. Going in and harrasing would be something Id look at doing. I was thinking along the lines of the second comment which mentioned going SB/two hand. I hope I can find something that is fun and helpful to the group.

Ehm, Caltrops is the stay alive longer yourself part. It procs Siphoning Attacks, basically the way Sap tanks (and medium armor steel tornado spammers) work now.

I wouldn't consider my build a "Tank". It is "Tanky" all things consider (with block) but I can lower the output of everyone beating on me and negate a lot of the damage thrown at me for awhile but I take damage and (currently) without vigor I'll die if I tank too long without another source of heals. Me and a Templar friend were fighting a group of 10-15 EP for far longer than should of been possible last night.

Do you think i will be able to tank in dungeons while leveling up with this build? Or will i need to keep two sets of armor?

The set bonuses and traits in this build are not what I'd consider useful for tanking. However, the need for a true "Tank" in dungeons has long been removed, even in most veteran modes with a skilled group. You could swap in puncture and do reasonable well with this I'm sure. The stamina regen alone would ensure you're never out of stamina.

If you want a tank Build for PvE heavy armor is always going to be your best bet along with block enchants (I use stam cost reduction).
