I severely need help with my build etc.

So I'm brand new to elder scrolls community and games. I'm sick of fps. I rented eso and from that moment on I've been hooked. I did research and tried to figure out what build and track I should take but I'm so confused on where to go with it. I'm a level 12 Imperial Dragonknight. I have my attribute points spread out as such magic: 2 health: 7 and stamina: 2. I use one hand one shield. I thought I wanted to tank but I'm not doing as much damage as I'd like to. So now I'm kinda debating my whole build in general. I want to have a all around solid build I want to be able to take damage but do damage as well. I don't want to be a sorcerer nor do I want to stand back from a battle. If it's not already apparent I'm confused and would appreciate any help at all.

You have to decide on one or the other. Do you want to be a tank, or do you want to deal damage? You can do both at the same time, but you will excel at neither one.

Google eso and deltia. I have been only playing for a week now but his site is probably the best site for condensed info, meaning you should find EXACTLY what you are looking for there. There arent a lot of level by level guides out there. Not sure if it will be the same for you but I found it overwhelming at first using his stuff as a base but after you gain a few levelss you will have a good grasp of what iis going on.

I would rather do damage but I don't want to be super squishy and die very easily. If I have to tank I will but I'd rather dps. i guess I'm just trying to weigh my options here.

experiment a little then respect in a few levels and try something different.
I will be on my 3rd respec soon at level 30.

Dk can take quite a few hits even if their dps.

Try a 2h/bow build or even a 2h/ sword and board. That way you have dps on one bar and high dps on the other.

What exactly is 2h? And id like to make an up close dps dk if at all possible

Well im a stamina based dk myself, i like the 2h/bow set up because i like to dps and the switch gives me range

Theres no set build but a few abilities are useful

Momentum (morph to rally) for a heal over time with a 20% dmg boost, as well as a great heal when the effect ends.
Dragon blood, (morph to green dragon blood) you class self heal, useful in anything
Uppercut (morph to wrecking blow) High dmg, stun, range, Also grants the next hit extra 20% dmg boost.

Just mix and match until your happy, pick a few shields, cc abilities, etc... so your nice and balanced.

Dont worry about builds until you reach VR1, just try out what skills work for you.
Try to level-up multiple skill and skill line so you can respec and change your build later on.
