I say that because when I take my V1 Werewolf to Cyrodil and I'm doing PVE content. I'm fighting the bad guys and some player decides to target me, killing me. Then I have to transport to some wayshrine like 200 miles away and then I have to fun through field, mountain, stream over and over just to get back where I was and five minutes later some other player (nice words) attacks me while I'm fighting NPCs. So likely I don't know what I'm doing because if this is the way it is supposed to be I have better things to do than spending 20 minutes running from the wayshrine back to the spot where I was killed by the other player (nice words).
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,.

That's exactly why I seldom go to Cyrodiil.

However ... when I do (like last night) it's in a group, so when we get ganked (and it always happens eventually) we can all share the pain and commiserate.

Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.

Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...

Title: I must be doing something wrong PvP isn't fun at all

Summary: You were PvE-ing in a PvP zone and PvP happened.

    ...

Okay I think I see the problem OP. See, much like Craglorn, although you can travel solo through most of Cyrodiil and do quests, you will be more successful as a group. It's also best to find your partner before traveling to Cyrodiil because requests in zone may be met with hostility, especially if your faction is struggling at the moment. Which brings up the best time and place to quest in Cyrodill, and that's when your faction's position in said campaign is strong. Because of this, you will have less far to travel if you die, while any gankers will have a long ride back instead of the other way.

    Good luck and good fight.

PS, if your campaign is locked, and the tide turns against your side, please help out with the war effort.

I sometimes do PvE stuff in Cyrodiil (dungeons, skyshards, dolmens, dailies etc.) but when i do i constantly check the map and if i see a keep needs defense or someone is pushing for a scroll etc. i always stop by and join the fun.

After all, Cyrodiil is the one and only PvP area ...

PvP is about killing players. You talk about killing NPC's. If you want to have fun in PvP, join a group defend and attack keeps and have fun. PvP is not about killing NPC's.

Yes OP you are doing something wrong: thinking what you're doing is PVP. That's PVE not PVP. The people that killed you, now THAT was PVP. For them, not so much you.

It's one of those risks that PVE'ers and RP'ers take when they decide to take a leisurely stroll in a region plagued with war.

Don't sweat over it too much, though, most of your deaths have to do with your being unprepared for the ambush, your level (you're only vr1), and of course your gear.

If you want to PVP, my advise would be to go to Youtube and learn the basic mechanics of PVP in cyrodiil, then come back in-game and hook up with a PVP guild. That will improve your experience tremendously.

It's a chance you take, and it requires you to be more situationally aware when you're solo.

At V1, you're not getting benefits of battleleveling that you were at L50 anymore, so you essentially lost 11 levels in the process of gaining one.

Everything you're going to run into (other than potentially other players) is vastly overleveled compared to you. Until you get a bit higher, perhaps V5 or better, bringing a friend will help immensely.

A second set of eyes can be priceless in such situations.

If you intend to continue to solo, expect to stealth a lot, and always expect to run into enemy players. (There are many cubby holes and hiding spots in most of the delves. Make use of them and always be looking around.)

Thanks. I don't have any friends playing this game. So solo seems to be all I can do. Maybe I should build a NB character specifically for PVP. How in the world do level 10 characters survive in Cyrodil?

Primarily by sneaking constantly, running away (in stealth) as soon as an enemy player pops up at the horizon or by hiding inside a 70-player zerg.

    Alternatively, join a non-vet campaign.

This is part of the problem right here. PvP isn't for everyone, but ZOS placed the best places to level your character without repeating the same zone quests smack dab in the middle of a PvP zone (which i'm fine with btw) So rather than players accepting that both PvP and PvE can happen here, when someone comes and asks a question out of frustration they're met with "lol, suck it up.LOL" or some other type of witty response. Most of the responses on here have been constructive which is nice to see.

to the OP, I would highly suggest joining a guild that either does PvP a lot or at least does group events into Cyrodiil. Beyond that the other advice given above is also extremely useful. Beyond that, situational awareness is king. When you travel from place to place avoid main roads and obvious trails, stealth and approach your destination rather than ride straight up for it. When speaking to quest givers don't bother trying to read just jump in and click through as quickly as you can and get back into stealth. I also might suggest if you plan to continue lone wolfing it, I would get your character leveled up a bit more as the longer you take to kill a mob and the more damage it does to you, is essentially blood in the water for gankers.

"It is a time of strife and unrest. Armies of revenants and dark spirits manifest in every corner of Tamriel. Winters grow colder and crops fail. Mystics are plagued by nightmares and portents of doom."

Maybe they should just go ahead and add a PVE Campaign, that way we wouldn't have these posts and everybody would be happy. Something like DAoC did with their PVE mode server. Probably would have to be a Guest only campaign, since you wouldn't be able to switch campaigns as you don't have any AP to pay the switch cost

If they had the resources, they could even beef up the guards so they bring some extra content for these PVE players.. and have the keeps reset / get taken back by the guards after some time.

I disagree. It's much easier for me to fly solo in Cyrodiil than to go as a group. Once I did a quest in a dungeon (something about Ayleids) filled with skeletons and wraiths. When I got there, 2 Daggerfall guys were already at the entrance beating up on the skeleton guards. I cloaked and waited for them to finish their business, but instead of leaving, they entered the dungeon. So, I waited about a minute and went in after them. Remaining cloaked the entire time, I followed them as they cleared out the dungeon ahead of me. Once we got to the big room where the Ayleid was, I sneaked over to it, grabbed it and recloaked before anyone saw me. I then waited for them to clear the room, grab the Ayleid for themselves and then depart at which time I followed them back out of the dungeon, once again letting them clear the way for me.

I didn't attack a single enemy and completed my quest. Sometimes it just takes using your head and you can have a lot of fun in PVP. Sure, it doesn't always work out the way you want, but that's the thrill of the hunt. Just remember that if you're questing, keep a low profile and be patient. The quickest way to die in Cyrodiil is riding on your mount alone in an enemy factions territory (sometimes, even your own).

Welcome to open world pvp. That's the way it is. Some people actually enjoy the danger it offers. You either need more situational awareness, a better strategy or go with others.

For instance, Don't always kill every mob. Leave some alive as buffers potential enemies have to get rid of before they get to you. This can give you some warning that other players are coming. If you are not a NB and even if you are, get some invisibility /haste pots.

Don't get discouraged. It's an AVA PvP zone. Other players are going to try and kill you. shrug.

Hi, I do feel for folks who are first entering vet levels and vet PvP at this point in time.

Much closer to when the PC version was released, Cyrodiil was hella fun. There were queues but once you got in, thanks to FCs, you'd immediately have access to big ol' battles often at multiple keeps/resources. There wasn't the stupidity of the equestrian simulator to slow things to a crawl and break up the fun. There wasn't the stupidity of getting 1-2 shot. It almost didn't matter that as a low level you'd die more because you could always get right back in the action. What ruined it in the end was how some people chose to cheat by switching to their alt on an opposing faction and deploying FCs in unintended ways.

So now newer vets enter and have to deal with level difference and CP difference, much shorter time to kill, horse-a** oogling, and slower XP gain, while some idiots are like, "You gotta earn it like I did, nub," when they had it 10 times easier before Zeni screwed up Cyro due to wanna-gankers and other whine-babies who cried "death should mean something." So yeah, now it means a more boring, messed up PvP experience, particularly for newer players.

Anyway, if you find it fun now (I do on good nights :-) keep at it. Learn your defensive abilities. Work out your build and skills. Save up some AP and gold. Things should get a little better with the next major patch.

    [edit]
Though if you just want to PvE in Cyrodiil, ignore everything I said above. -_-

Fair fights are for suckers ;)

In all seriousness, TESO is one of the (very) few games that does open world, multi-faction PvP well. Many of us think Cyrodiil is the best part of this game. However, it's not at all friendly to casual PvE'ers trying to solo. It's "lots of dying and mostly running" played that way

Some simple advice: Join the non-vet campaign, join groups, follow the crown and learn how it works. If it seems at all fun, spend one of your five guild slots on a PvP guild. The learning curve is fairly long, but it's also pretty rewarding.

    Cyrodiil is the real endgame.
