Hello friends,
I'm doing a study of MMO Players and attempting to isolate why they leave, and what things are most important to them to keep them playing an MMO. I would love to get the feedback of this great community!

https://surveymonkey.com/s/MMOMagicwhydoyouplay

There are only 9 questions (one of them optional) and the survey just takes a couple of minutes.

Thank you in advance for your time.

    Done and your welcome.
Though question 4 & 5 were tricky ones to answer because my most recent MMOs haven't been out for very long (ESO and planetside 2) my first a couldn't pay for the sub anymore (WoW) and I also played destiny which I don't really count as an MMO but it technically is so I included it.
My point being that, in the past, I've only spent a month or 2 playing MMOs before I got bored (destiny) or couldn't afford to play anymore (WoW) otherwise the latter I would have played to no end and that's exactly what I see happening with both ESO and planetside 2. They're both great games that I have trouble putting down and the fact that they're finally releasing these MMOs on console gives me the feeling that I'll be investing a lot more time into MMOs in the future.

I'm both excited and depressed at the amount of hours I will and have spend staring at my TV hammering through some dungeon or blasting something outta orbit..
    This is my signature.
    Original. Right ;p!

Looking at the results from that survey so far, we seem to have lost the PvP crowd in this forum. Or perhaps they were never that many to begin with. In any case, the first 100 people responding did not consider PvP very important as a reason for staying, nor for quitting.

They likely haven't seen it, most of them stay over in the Alliance War forums.

I haven't played the game in over a week, most likely because I have a ton of other games on my Xbox One I want to finish.

Done, I too am curious to see if PVP stays at the bottom of the list(s)
If options weren't necessary, and everyone played the same way, no one would use addons. Fix the UI!

Keep in mind I am posting this survey in several places, not just here, so the results may not be indicative of this community alone.

"Addiction is a state characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli, despite adverse consequences.[7] It can be thought of as a disease or biological process leading to such behaviors.[1][8] The two properties that characterize all addictive stimuli are that they are reinforcing (i.e., they increase the likelihood that a person will seek repeated exposure to them) and intrinsically rewarding (i.e., something perceived as being positive or desirable).[1][3][6]

Addiction is a disorder of the brain's reward system which arises through transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms and occurs over time from chronically high levels of exposure to an addictive stimulus (e.g., morphine, cocaine, sexual intercourse, gambling, etc.).[1][9][10] ΔFosB, a gene transcription factor, is a critical component and common factor in the development of virtually all forms of behavioral and drug addictions;[9][10][11][12] two decades of research into ΔFosB's role in addiction have demonstrated that addiction arises, intensifies, and dies along with the genetic overexpression of ΔFosB in the D1-type medium spiny neurons of the nucleus accumbens, and it is therefore is used preclinically as an addiction biomarker.[1][9][10][11] ΔFosB expression in these neurons directly and positively regulates drug self-administration and reward sensitization through positive reinforcement while decreasing sensitivity to aversion.[note 1][1][9]

Addiction exacts an astoundingly high toll on individuals and society as a whole through the direct adverse effects of drugs, associated healthcare costs, long-term complications (e.g., lung cancer with smoking tobacco, liver cirrhosis with drinking alcohol, or meth mouth from intravenous methamphetamine), the functional consequences of altered neural plasticity in the brain, and the consequent loss of productivity.[13][14] Classic hallmarks of addiction include impaired control over substances or behavior, preoccupation with substance or behavior, and continued use despite consequences.[15] Habits and patterns associated with addiction are typically characterized by immediate gratification (short-term reward), coupled with delayed deleterious effects (long-term costs).[16]

Examples of drug and behavioral addictions include: alcoholism, amphetamine addiction, cocaine addiction, nicotine addiction, opiate addiction, exercise addiction, food addiction, gambling addiction, and sexual addiction."
