themdogesbite Heavy armour magicka DK build

Hey dudes, recently there have been more people than usual asking me what gear, skills, CPs, etc I am using on my DK, so i decided to make a video explaning it and a forum thread i can direct them to. If you dont know who I am, I am going by the name "themdogesbite" in-game and playing on the EU PC mega server. I'm the guild master of the Banana Squad and the right hand of the Arena guild master.

I guess one of the reasons so many ask is due to them feeling that magica DKs are weak, and they are seeing me performing pretty well in open world encounters and in duels. I always try to help people and i rarely keep my setups secret unless I’m trying someone else´s build and they ask me not to share it for the time beeing. I´d say this build works pretty good small scale, 1vX and bigger sized groups too with some swapping arround of skills.

Build Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dVaPrOOZY4
(super cringy be warned.)

Attributes and gear:
The goal of this build is to have a decent damage output whilst still compensating for the lack of mobility with tankiness.

Gear:
4 Pieces of Healer´s Habit. (Both rings, Necklace with magicka cost reduction enchants and Gloves)

4 Pieces Heavy armour Magnus´Gift; Chest, waist, boots and legs with nirnhood trait to ensure all the sorcs hate you :D All with magicka enchants.

2 Pieces Bloodspawn, Heavy head and Medium Shoulders For stamina regeneration and extra ultimate points (Ultimates = yumyum). Don’t forget that the bonus spell and resistance and armor you also get when this set procs DO stack with the Volatile Armor buff!

2 Pieces Torugs pact sword and shield. With nirnhood trait and Disease enchant on the sword and stamina enchant on the shield.

2 Pieces Potentates set sword and shield. For extra stamina recovery on your other bar. Desease enchant on the sword and stamina enchant on the shield.

This ensures you to have 5 heavy pieces for the cheaper cost on blocking and also one medium and one light armour part to utilize your undaunted passives.

Attributes; 37 Points in Magica, 25 Points in HP and 0 in Stamina.

Misc; Vampire is highly recomended. Mundus stone I’m useing is The Atronach. My character is a highelf.

I´ve included screenshots at the bottom of Buffed / unbuffed recoveries and stats whislt useing 3 stat food.

http://imgur.com/a/4abqd

Champion points:
As of making this thread i have 310 CP, and jsut a FYI i have placed mine pretty badly and i wouldnt recomend placing them like me.

The Steed: 65 points in Block expertise. 10 in resistant, 1 in spell shield.

The Lady: 10 in Thick skinned. 8 in elemental defender, 9 in hardy.

The Lord: 1 in Bastion.

The Tower; 43 in Magician, 1 in warlord.

The Lover; 5 in Mooncalf, 35 in arcanist.

The Shadow; 18 in Tumbing, 1 in elusive.

The Apprentice; 4 in Blessed, 20 in elfborn. 1 in spell erosion. 67 in elemental expert.

The Atromnach; 1 in Blade Expert.

The Ritual; 7 in Thaumaturge, 1 in precise strikes. 1 in piercing and 1 in mighty.

Im awefull at placeing my Champion points. Id highly recomend spreading them better then i have.

Skill Bars:
"Offensive bar" (Torugs Pact bar).

Dragon fire scale;, self explanatory, extra damage is the obvious choice.

Invasion; Too be able to stun people and to have a gapcloser.

Flame lash; The obvious morph imo, it heals you and is a free cast on off balanced targets.

Burning talons: for MLG root spam. I prefer the DoT damage over the reduced damage taken.

Burning embers; Dot that also heals you, when you buff spell damage up it even deals decent damage.

Offhand bar:

Fossilize; Awesome stamina drainer. When i feel theres no need for it i replace it for mistform.

Volatile Armour; Awesome Buff to armour, togheter with bloodspawn procc you get some decent values. Also perfect to find those pesky cloaking nightblades.

Green Dragon Blood; Self heal and i prefer the stamina recovery whenever i want it.

Ingious shield; For better heals and helps to manage stamina.

Structured entropy; For extra HP so that ingiouus shield can scale higher and a solid spell damage buff. In this build you should be arround 2k spelldamage buffed which gives some decent tooltip damage on whip for example. Currently mine is on 5k when i buff up.

Changes for larger groups can be to add Deep breath and Proximity detonation. for Fozzilise and Burning embers.

I hope you try it out and that it works out for you. And remember that what works for me might not necessarily work for you.

Feel free to ask me questions and discuss either here or in game @themdogesbite.

Thank you for your time.

Its actually not all that different from my new heavy magicka DK im putting together (trade out healers for cyro light rings, adroit neck and sash for more spell damage, less overall sustain) and its much the same gear. (destro offhand)

Works really good, extremely tough vs pesky magicka builds, countered by stamina builds pretty well, does moderately decent damage over time, and can function beautifully as a front line/position holder. With prox det, dragonleap, and impulse it can also dish a pretty hefty burst of AOE damage as well.

With some tweaks here and there, skills swapped, a sizeable champion pool (currently at 250 myself) the potential of the build to be delicious (especially if they ever fix the armor pen problems with maces) is rather high.

Still in testing stages, just a theory craft ive 90 percent put together (my bloodspawn helm is on another toon so i gotta farm another, and gotta get me an adroit necklace cause my sorc uses the other one)

But yeah, pretty sick aint it O_o

Tried this in group tonight, wihtout th destro staff. And the damage output was very nice actually (was critting some for arround 10k whips) and just like you said a bit less sustainable. Not sure how it would work for open word solo play, but definetly very viable for group play!

My DK is only lvl 18 or so, but I will be trying about same build. Thanks for sharing. Currently I only have one toon because I don't want to go through veteran again. So my DK will go to Cyro at low level. (I will stay safely behind friendly walls first and siege)

What do you need impulse for? Talons have the same range, almost same damage but root your enemies so they dont run away from you and you can use s&b for cheaper blocking.

costs 1/2 the magicka for roughly the same damage (inferno staff + burning)

spamming talons would just tank my pools

also purge + immovable pots + rapids = gg on the other utilities of talons, unfortunately. At least impulse just gives me reliable AOE damage for cheap. I find myself using proxdet + imp during the 4 second chargeup more than any other part of the skillbar. If I hit talons 4 times in that same period of time, id walk out the other side with literally no magicka left

Hm, I would still go for talons, mainly because I could then use S&B for a) cheaper/better blocking b) gap closer c) one more set slot, so I can have 2x torugs for example. I wouldn't spam the talons either though, there are other skills which are pretty nice to use along talons in the "4 sec chargeup" ;) Also, not everyone uses counters to the root and don't forget the synergy that talons gives allies, I know it's not like it used to be, but is still part of the skill and not that bad. The choking talons morph is also pretty nice for those non-skoria DK builds :)

With all of those ST spammers around, you might find yourself too squishy when you switch to your desto bar in group play, unless you put ig shield on that bar i suppose, but then it's not on your main bar, and honestly that's the way to go I feel.

Overall this build utilizes many things that I do, and while our stats are similar, the stam recovery and spell power are noticeably low compared to other options (and that's with two pieces of stam recovery in them!). I wonder how we would compete against each other? More raw resources vs. more sustain and power.

Thats a good question really. Normally in pure 1v1 the sustain build wins, but a strong spike build can overcome it if the stars align properly (also tends to be a massively long fight in either case)

Igneous does go on my destro bar. Its one of the reasons I get frustrated with weapon swap bugs, because i dont like keeping double copies of skills and swap literally every 1-3 seconds in group formation play (gap closers, self heals, damage shields, buffs, proxdet, etc) everything is single slotted on two different bars (survival bar, dps bar). I dont really run "main bar off bar" i intend to be constantly switching, if ya will.
