Magicka Sorcerer Brick Wall

Hi everyone,

I am feeling that I am starting to hit a slight brick wall with my Magicka Sorcerer.

Here is some basic info that can help you guys understand my character more.

Role: DPS
Current level: 30 Sorcerer
Attributes: 29 / 0 / 0 (All Magicka)
Armor: 5 light armor, 2 Heavy
Gear Type: 5 Seducer, 2 Torungs Pact (Rest regular)
Weapon: Duel Wield (for spell damage bonus)

Skills:
- Entropy
- Liquid Lightning
- Crystal Fragments
- Restoring Twilight (Magicka Recovery one)
- Clannfear
- Power Overload (stores at 1,000 ultimate and used to solo world bosses easily)

I feel the problem is that using Entropy / Liquid Lightning in PVE is good but the mobs always run away or run through liquid lightning away to my Twlight or back up as an archer etc.

I prefer NOT using destro staff because its not really my playstyle...and I want to improve in general.

I am not using a second bar yet as that will be my Utility bar once I get Conjoured Ward and I can have a damage / support bar going.

What skill combo would you guys suggest?

Im not crazy for pets and I am the typical lazy combat leveler...quests that like to spam 1233333333333333 rinse repeat.

As an update for skills I was thinking of doing something like this:

- Endless Fury
- V Curse
- Crystal Frag
- Bound Armor
- Inner Light
- Power Overload

Thoughts?

Main issue: no CC. Encase, rune prison, daedric mines... Also: I understand dual wield as choice for damage bar, but I don't understand why not simply use restoration on second bar. Much utility to be had, there.

Okay so if I use CC on my main damage bar what do you recommend?

Test it. Encase is multi target but doesn't prevent ranged attacks. Rune prison is single target, but incapacitates.

What about pets though? Should I be using both pets? or the 2 buffs?

Can't help you there. Never played my sorc with pets, don't even have them skilled.

When you'll go into some public dungeon, you'll need to have more AOE spells.
Here is where Destro Staff's Impulse very useful. Shattering Prison, Liquid Lighting, then Impulse spam.
Liquid lighting use gives you Empower buff for next spell.(20% more damage)
I use Clannfear only on Overload bar to tank world bosses.

Lighting form(increased speed)
Lighting splash(increase aoe radius
Crystal Shard(35% chance for instant attack)
Destructive Touch.(aoe with lighting staff)


Bar 2

Restoration Staff

Grand Healing
regeneration
steadfast ward
lightning form
Crystal shard(for the insta cast chance)

This is working very well for me right now. Bar 1 has good single target damage and Aoe. Bar 2 makes me a tank, good to heal up and has been working good for solo boss fights.

So..i found my main bar rotation for damage and it's awesome.

Unstable Clannfear
Power Overload

It works actually great and smokes most mobs fast

My second bar after some research should be build around utility and support so the question I have what is suggested for pve?

Destro staff?
Resto staff?

Hardened Ward obviously as one
Both pets so they stay up

What should I do for ultimate? Negate magic? Overload still?
What about the other 2 slots?

Be aware that unless you are using weapon attacks or blocking enemy attacks you won't be generating ultimate points. If you are using dual wield just for the spell damage and not actually fighting at melee range you're gimping your ultimate ability.

If you're using Liquid Lightning I recommend pairing it with Encase. But then you probably want to look at more AoE on your bar to mix with. I would recommend Wall of Elements if you used a destruction staff. If you have enough levels in the Mages guild you could use Fire Rune. Otherwise your only other class AoE is Lightning Form.

For Crystal Frags to really be worthwhile you need to be casting other spells on a regular basis to increase the proc chance. Something cheap and spammable is generally the order of the day. So without a destruction staff you probably need to use Mage's Fury, which only really does decent damage when they're at 20% health.

If you're keen to have dual wield, look into using Lightning form with encase and Liquid Lightning. Put Surge on your second bar to pop before battle for a weapon damage increase and some limited self healing.

Try the following:

Dual Wield
1: Encase
2: Liquid Lightning
3: Boundless Storm
4: Blade Cloak (Dual Wield)
5: Inner Light

Restoration Staff
1: Power Surge
2: Healing Ward
3: Hardened Ward
4: Mage's Wrath
5: Inner Light

You are basically going to be fighting at melee range while holding the mobs in place and AoEing. You could consider putting Rune Cage in place of something on the second bar to completely lock down one mob while you deal with others. As DoT effects don't break the cage as long as you don't attack them you should be able to damage them while they're stuck.

Blade cloak won't do much damage but it's another DoT AoE that you can set and forget and gives you protection from enemy AoE attacks.

Weapon attacks should be part of your build. Not only do they provide ultimate, but heavy attacks also restore resources (staves magicka, everything else stamina). If you want to play a ranged DPS you really need to think about whether the extra spell damage is worth forgoing this game mechanic. If you don't find this build appealing, you probably should consider some form of staff for your main bar and weave weapon attacks into your rotation.

I should point out this is a leveling build only, I wouldn't recommend it for any dungeon, PvP or other activities.

If you're using pets consider Empowered Ward (instead of hardened) and Daedric Prey to up their DPS. If you take a healing staff, having healing ward is handy.

Also take Storm Atronach as your second Ultimate. It gets a similar buff to pets do from Prey and Ward.
