I am a level 16 high elf sorcerer with the Almeri dominion. I'm just looking for insight on what skills I should be using. I'm trying to go for lots of damage but I find myself dying a lot and not cause a lot of damage lol. The skills I use currently are force pulse, frost clench, mages wrath, blockade of frost, magelight, and energy overload. I still don't really have a good set of armor I have some light and medium. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should be using?

Here is your fist 27 skill points in order
    1. Mages fury
    2. Crystal shard
    3. Unstable familiar ( I do not use this skill, but I put it on my hot bar from time to time because I want to level this summoning so I can unlock "Bound armor" for later use)
    4. Morph mages fury to Endless Fury
    5. Morph Crystal Shard to Crystal Fragments

Grab a resto staff and start leveling it up for a bit.

    7. Wall of elements
    8. Grand healing (Put it on your hot bar from time to time to level it)
    9. Add Evocation
    10. Recovery
    11. Lighting form
    12. Overload
    13. Re-generation (Put it on your hot bar from time to time to level it)
    14. Force Shock
    15. Encase
    16. Another point to Evocation
    17. Morph grand healing to healing springs
    18. Morph regeneration to Rapid Regen
    19. Morph Lighting form to Boundless storm
    20. Morph Encase to Shattering prison
    21. Morph wall of Elements to Blockade
    22. Morph Force shock into Crushing shock
    23. Add another point to recovery
    24. Morph Overload to Energy overload
    25. use the next 4 skills for Hirelings

    Rotation for single target DPS
    1. Heavy staff attack
    2. Force shock
    3. light staff attack
If force shock procs it's instand cast
    4. Shattering prison
    5. Light staff attack
    6. Endless Fury for a finisher if the target is below 20% health for the extra burst damage.
If Force shock does not proc instant cast repeat 1 - 3 until it does.

    Multi target DPS rotation
    1. Boundless storm
    2. Attack group with shattering prison
    3. Elemental blockade
    4. Hold you block button until the group dies. Re-apply shattering prison or blockade if needed

Something else to keep in mind is that Overload gives you a 3rd hotbar and this is where you need to build in skills that help you recovery health and mana while continuing to DPS with Energy overload. Do not put redundant skills on your 3rd hotbar.

The healing spells from resto staff are fantastic for healing in a pinch for group content or healing yourself so the healer is not burden with you in a raid.

you will not get to all of these skills right away, but build toward it and you will have a great starting mage. There is all kinds of fun stuff to get into when getting into the higher levels.. Have Fun!

    Hope this is helpful.

So your saying I should use a restoring staff instead of destruction staff?

Activate Overload(Energy Overload, then go to the skills menu and you can add to that hotbar.

You should use a resto staff enough to level that skill enough to get you those skills I mentioned. This i not something you have to do of course. It is just something I think is a good Idea because healers can sometimes be hard to come by and if you have the option to heal then it helps the group out a lot. No you will never be a Templar, but you should be able to heal through most normal 4 mans.

I just equipped my resto staff from time to time and would for example go through a whole quest line using it then switch back destruction staff for the next 4 or 5 quest lines, then rinse repeat until I got the level high enough and my skills high enough to morph.

Also while using the resto staff make sure to through one of your heals on the hotbar so that it levels as you kill mobs and complete quests.

I am of course beyond this starter build and working on the end game build, so I am not using the resto staff at all. This is just something you can use later if need be. It pays to be versatile.

Another pointer IMO, Mage light increases spell crit, but decreases overall mana pool. This is a great skill to use on your 3rd hotbar with Energy overload because Energy overload takes no mana to cast its light or Heavy attacks. So increased Crit with no penalty. Magelight used in any other instance IMO is not worth the 5% decrease in Mana pool.

Ok I'm starting to get it. I assumed hat you told me is just for my main hot bar. Do you use a main hand back up for a second hot bar and what do you use in it?

I used a Destruction staff for main hand, Destruction staff for main hand backup.

Main hand is my single target rotation and what I use most of the time for 1 to 3 mobs.
Main hand backup is my AOE rotation and used for 3 or more mobs.
3rd hot bar is recovery mode (out of mana and you still need to continue to DPS) The DPS is not as good (as single target rotation) but you still get to DPS instead of stopping all together and not causing any damage at all. This allows you to go from one pack of mobs to the next and never have to rest or use pots to recover in between fights.

Optional if you felt that you really did not need the AOE rotation and you wanted to switch it to a the healing hotbar for the sake of quickly switching to it for finishing quests to they get some XP you could do that. I really do not recommend this. I found it just as easy to throw the healing skills on my bar from time to time and it leveled fine.

Also I threw the soul magic spell to capture souls on my AOE hotbar to level it as well so I could morph it and fill soul gems.

This can seem like a lot but really it will set you up for a really great base to work on later when you are theory crafting at end game.
