Stealth mechanics

Apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere, I should imagine it has in some form, I just cant find it...

Could someone please explain to me in detail how the stealth mechanics work?

I have just started a Woodelf NB, im predominantly using dual daggers and a bow.

1. When I attack from hidden with either a normal attack, charged attack or ability I don't see much change in damage. Meaning the trouble of sneaking up on my opponent is pretty pointless.

2. When I am in combat and turn invisible for all of 2 seconds seems ridiculous too, as the amount of time I am invisible for doesn't really get me anywhere, nowhere near enough time to evade my attacker to creep up on them again.

3. And again, if I attack from invisibility, I don't see a significant difference in damage. Which begs the question, why am I using that ability?

4. Last question...Does the bow get any significant change in damage for attacking from hidden?

I am new to the game, so if you could answer these questions in detail, that would be greatly appreciated. Or if I am missing the point altogether with the abilities etc, please steer me in the right direction on how I should be playing to maximise benefits to stealth/invisibility.

Many thanks in advance.

    1) only specific skills benefit from sneaking
    2) the skill is an aggro dump, as I see it mainly for group play
    3) this seems to be a repeat of (1)
    4) see (1)

Basically, read the skill description tooltips to see whether or not each one benefits from being stealthed, it isn't blanket 'stealth increases damage' mechanic.

Stealth gets better as you level up. There are skills in the med armour line and Khajiit racial line that help improve stealth. Also in the Ledgermain Skill there's a stealth skill you can use to improve movement while stealthed. The attack bonus while stealthed is based on your base damage with a weapon. So the higher your level, the better your equipment, the more damage you do, results in higher stealth bonus damage. At higher levels with bow or dual swords, (what I use), I can 2 shot, stun then kill, most mobs at my level (V12).

I see, so I will see a difference when I level up.

I think its because I am early into the game and I can defeat every enemy one on one without a need to sneak up. That will probably change later into the game.

You get bonus damage and stun the target when attacking them FROM BEHIND while sneaking. This applies to melee light and heavy attacks, bow light and heavy attacks, and bow/melee weapon abilities. Some class abilities, particularly for nightblades, also do bonus damage from stealth or invisibility.

Dark cloak's invisibility lasts up to 2.9 seconds max. One of the morphs gives you a 100% critical chance on your next attack whole the invisibility is active, the other causes the cloak to remove negative effects from you. It is not intended as an escape ability, but to make you a harder target or to drop aggro on enemies when in a group. Dark cloak can also give you some hefty burst damage when you use it with surprise attack (veiled strike) or wrecking blow from the 2h tree.

Pakhet - Khajiit Dragonknight - Tank
Raksha - Khajiit Sorcerer - Stamina DPS
Bastet - Khajiit Templar - Healer
Leonin - Khajiit Warden - Tank

To elaborate, if you're playing a nightblade, you always want to attack from stealth with one of the following abilities:
    Dual wield: veiled strike/surprise attack
    Two handed: uppercut/wrecking blow
Bow: snipe or a heavy attack, fully drawn
    1h/shield: veiled strike/surprise attack

Teleport strike/ambush also get a stealth damage bonus.

    Superb info!

Couldn't have answered it any better for me. I now fully understand the benefits!

    Cheers Lynx!
