Hi All,

Just started playing ESO and running a dark elf DragonKnight at level 7. There are some many skill trees and guilds that give you even more skill trees, I am lost on what to add points to. Do I run all heavy armor or mix in medium armor also? I do understand the aspect of have fun and play your own style, but I am just needing a little direction on what should be avoided. I am also currently dual wielding but do have 1 point in two handed for cleave. Any sites or help would be very appreciated.

Don't worry too much about where you spent skill points right now. They will become much more abundant as you play along and you can respec your character and move skill points later in the game (around level 17+ ish) by using a rededication shrine.

On a new character, i usually focus on one type of armor, a good ranged magic based skill, a good weapon skill and an ultimate (once unlocked). That's all you need for the first 15 levels or so.

Oh, and "Silver Bolts" from the fighters guild will come in handy right about now.

It's probably a good idea to wear a mix of all types of armour, as this will level all of the armour skill lines as you go. If you want to focus on heavy armour, I'd suggest trying to get a medium armour piece for your hands, light for your waist, and heavy for everything else. This way all of the pieces with the highest armour values are heavy, while the one with the least armour value is light, so you level all 3 armour skill lines while still having almost as much protection as if you had a full 7 pieces of heavy. Also, this way your heavy armour skill line will level fastest.

Now having said that, do you think you'd prefer to use more magicka skills (all of your class skills are magicka-based at first, but some can be morphed to stamina-based skills later on), or more stamina skills (all non-staff weapon skills are stamina-based)? If you prefer to go mostly stamina-based, then you may actually want to go mostly with medium armour rather than heavy, as the medium armour passives are good for a stamina DPS build.

To be honest, though, I wouldn't worry too much about where your skill points go at this point. Pick the skills that sound interesting to you, and pay around with using them. When you hit level 15 and unlock weapon swapping (so you can have 2 different weapons equipped that you can swap between in combat - each with its own skill bar so that you can have different skills available on each), that's probably the time to take a serious look at what skills you have, and what skills you want to have. For now, just take the skills that sound good to you, and by the time you hit level 15 you'll probably have a much better idea of whether those skills actually work out for you the way you hoped they would.

Don't sweat it. It's obvious ZOS is overwhelmed too....in quite a few ways.

The general rule of thumb for armors is light for magic users like sorcerers, medium for melee DPS/bow and heavy armor for sword and shield tanks. Dual wielding will only make use of weapon skills in the dual wielding skill line, so unless you plan to use a two handed don't put any more points into the two handed weapon line.

My thoughts in a very broad stroke for you are....at least five pieces of medium armor, stick to putting points into dual wield for now, put points into the class skills you feel you'd like to use. Look over the guild skills in the Fighter's Guild and Mage's Guild skills, at the very least from those two you'll probably want Persuasive Will and Intimidating Presence.

I know heavy armor will give you more protection but the passives for medium armor will boost your stamina, stamina regeneration and critical attack.

Like I said though this is very broad and without knowing where you'd like to go with your character its hard for people to give you more precise advice.

Thank you all, that actually helps out a lot. I may be going more Stamina base since I morphed flame strike to Unstable flame. So I will probably be needing to pile more points into Stam and Health. Also the info on Heavy and Medium armor makes a lot of sense. Again Thank you all.

In that case I'd suggest you try to have heavy armour for your chest (gives the most protection), light armour for your waist (gives the least protection), and medium armour for everything else. You may eventually want to switch to all medium, but while leveling this will probably be the best setup for you.
