DK we have some of if not the best tank orientated skills in the game, magma armor, green dragon blood, choking talons, extended chains, igneous shield and hardened armor just to name a few. It's literally almost impossible to die.

I only have a DK tank, I know.. Not too creative..

I REALLY want to try out a template though..

But I bet a NB tank unleashes a totally different feel, as well, in my head they would take more skil.

Totally opinion and whatnot.. As I mentioned.. Only have a DK. There is not enough time in the world for me to play all the toons I want haha

As a secondary weapon in dungeons, sure. But you need a shield on your main tanking bar. Sometimes you'll want to go shield on both.

I've tanked endgame content only with a DK, so I can't compare, but I like the idea of the NB tank I'm currently leveling. I switched my templar from tanking to DPS, I prefer it that way.

You might be able to pull it off before veteran dungeons, but definitely not after.

You can tank with any class. But the DK imo is the best choice due to the fact they have chains and magma armor. When you are doing end game content and a two hander is chasing around your healer, it's very satisfying when you chain them in and safe their life. Also very satisfying is when the whole group dies and you pop your ultimate magma armor and rezz two guys and recovering.

templars are pretty good because of the self heals and buffs, but they lack cc. I used to tank on my templar but switch to main heals because my DK was a better tank.
Sorcs are not bad, they have decent cc, and do the best dps I've seen on a tank. I haven't played one but have played with a couple and they are the squishiest of the bunch due to no self heals. So if your healer goes down you better hope someone rezzes asap.
Nightblades I have not tried, but think it would be interesting. They have some decent self heals.

Dragon knight, imo, had the most tools to be a versatile tank.
Templar wild probably be my second choice.

Is it recommended.. no, is it viable.. absolutely however you have to think of what a tanks job is especially at end game and that's not just keeping the boss on you.
Big trash pulls and anything with lots of adds your role needs to be keeping the big damage adds off your group and keeping everything tight and together and I find no better mitigation in a stacked fight than dealing damage, for these types of pulls aoes are your friend, for instance on a big trash pull I would swap out to dual wield drop the standard and start pulling adds to me with extended chains once the adds are tightly grouped I keep them where I need with choking talons and spam steel tornado. This could be done with the 2h skill cleave but it's only a frontal cone aoe and does nowhere near the damage steel tornado can do.

For single target boss fights I switch back to sword and board, I only put out around 6k dps by using burning breath, unstable flame and light attack weaving but honestly if the groups dps is so low that the tank needs to focus on single target dps then that's not really a tanking issue.

I will admit, DKs have the best kit for tanking. Its really quite complete and have the easiest entry exp for tanking.

However, I prefer NBs. Not just because of their self heals or resource generation but also its not the most boring. They have one of the best mobility ability because it gives good amounts of armor as well. They also work well as a stamina or magicka tank, which imo creates really good diversity in the builds. Bolstering darkness is to me hands down the best damage mitigation ability ive seen.

To me tanking are one of the best examples of good hybrid builds since using all of your resources is important to tank. NBs are really versatile and definitely not boring.

Ive had instances when my team is almost wiped out, only I am left. Pop bolstering darkness over healer's body, refreshing path, Swallow soul, res him, then pop pots for catalyst passive, light attack boss, heroic slash, sap essence, and block. All these while my healer is ressing everyone else, I pop soul tether for my own heals and keep on blocking.

All of us have that tank story somewhere with a different class but that amount of self heals, resource generation.. Amazing class to tank imo. Def not boring haha!

Cheers all - seems "tanking is tanking" regardless of MMO. I'll need to find me a big shield to cover my big Orc. ☺

Yes. 2H tanking is not tanking but more like bad dps and you should have Sword and board. Having a 2H on your second bar for Rally,Executioner and Brawler is not bad at all though.

It is more fun with the additional 20% dodge rate of an NB :) sometimes I'm dodging 80% of the damage :D

I play a magicka templar tank and its a lot of fun, I've done a healing tank with 3 dps for all the veteran dungeons and its very engaging and very versatile. Takes a bit more concentration but its satisfying.

Honestly, I think DK is my favorite. Of course it's the only class I've ever used for tanking, but it just feels like your classic tank. That's what I like most about it. It's an extremely sturdy class that allows you to simply stand in the middle of all the chaos and withstand any and everything mobs toss your way.

The DK's class abilities really add to that excitement. Abilities such as hardened armor, igneous shield, green dragon blood, choking talons, and extended chains are absolutely empowering. The only thing missing is an ability to go super saiyan. Oh wait...we have that too...Magma Shell!

And what I love most about DKs is their synergy with certain races. As a Dunmer DK, VCOA doesn't stand a chance. I'm just too hot to handle.

I actually have a v14 tank of each class. I think I probably enjoy templar the most. DK is definitely the easiest and strongest tank (or easiest to make strong). My first tank and will always have a place in my heart is my NB tank (and much better after 1.6/2.0 patch).

for overall tanking, and especially trash mob control, i love my DK. chains for pulling in caster mobs, talons to keep mobs from moving around too much.

i'm currently leveling an imperial NB, who i want to level to have epeen boosting HP numbers.

How is a DK tank using sword and shield as first weapon and resto staff as 2nd bar to help healer at hard times using healing springs. I'm not sure what to lvl as my 2nd bar weapon yet I'm lvl 14 now.

DK. NB tanks are also good, but situational. Most undesirable tank for me is templar. They can't hold aggro and control monsters properly, or at least this is my expirience so far.

that's perfectly viable. you could also go 2h on your secondary bar so you can help execute bosses with reverse slash.

aggro shouldn't be an issue in this game. one taunt is all it takes to keep that mob stuck to you for the duration. there is a thing called "over taunting" in this game though where if you hit a mob with too many taunts too frequently, it goes taunt immune and attacks the next guy on his list.

DK for sure. The abilities you get make it fun to tank. Once you unlock the ability to have a back up weapon it opens up even more techniques to use. For example, I use a 1h/shield for my main with hardened armour, chain, etc. but before I start to tank I use a bow (back up) and dawnguard crossbow ability to weaken the enemy before I finish him off. I've found this strategy very effective when leveling up and/or going through dungeons.
Someone probably has better advice than me.

Thanks for the feedback all. I've tried out DK tanking and just don't think it fits my style (though I love healing and dps on my other DK). I think Templar may be the one for me, but I'm strongly considering a NB after so many good reviews.
