Templar Puncturing Sweep Build (Magicka) ?

So thinking of going for Explosive Charge, Puncturing Sweep Inner Light and BoL for solo play (would this able to work VERY well with desto staff) ? then pick up Sun Shield to able to level from v1-14 ?

    A great source for leveling and pvp-spec's is tamrielfoundry.com

    You even don't need healing for a punturing-sweep spec.
    Try to maximize your "magic melee style" damage by using:

    - mage light = 20% crit on everything that is "magical"
    - Reflective light = 10% crit
    - solar barrage/structured entropy = 20% more damage
    - evil hunter = 20% more melee crit and a very good bonus damage proc (not just vs undead)
    - dual wield/2h sword = 2 daggers for more melee crit (you do not use any dual wield skills, just the passive)
    - to raise dmg: spell damage&magicka on equipment, rings, etc etc
    any ultimate you like, or get a vampire/WW

    Why all that melee crit? Puncturing Sweeps damage is made by:
    - 4x hit (skill damage) BUT IT HAS melee crit (under 9 meter range)
    - 4x 25% change to proc burning light BUT THIS has magic crit (not the 25% chance to proc, but the damage it does than)

    Do I need more AE skills like destruction staff, etc.?
    NO but Blazing Spear works fine! Puncturing Sweep is a channeled spell. In between, you have to keep up evil hunter / reflective light / 20% more damage (Solar Barrage or better Entropy) AND that is already very much.
    Evil hunter also regenerates you stamina. Everything (items&skills) which says "3% chance on hit to do great stuff" works very well with your Puncturing Sweep attacks, that is how you do damage. You do not need more "bling bling".

    Despite that, this playstyle get's boring as hell and in PvP you will not be able to "stay alive just by leeching life", given that the incoming damage is much higher than the amount that you can heal :( (except you hit enough targets to heal yourself)

    It is pointless to use Empower for Puncturing Strikes as it will only apply to the first hit. You do want Entropy for Major Sorcery however.

    You do want dual wield but not for the reason you mentioned, you use it because it gives more spell power than a staff does.

    1. Puncturing Sweep
    2. Reflective Light
    3. Entropy (Mages Guild)
    4. Blazing Spears (opional)
    5. Blazing Shield(optional)

    If you are just looking to grind, this setup will make you virtually unkillable for overland mobs, and also make soloing public dungeons and world bosses fairly easy (with a few exceptions that will be fairly hard)

    If you go dual wield for more spell power while leveling it really doesn't matter what you choose for weapons but since ZoS gave all mobs some level of spell resistance with 1.6 (iirc) traiting those weapons with Sharpened is a good bet, but Precise is good too.

    Keep some heals like Breath of Life, and Purifying Ritual on your secondary bar for emergencies.

    Also good idea to use your second bar for leveling skills and weapons that you are not using for normal activity but you may want in the future, which is virtually everything.

    Oh, yes, I'm sorry. Since patch 1.6 I'm playing a twink. I did not know that magicka based AEs (Blazing Shield, Destru staff skills, emp. sweep, etc.) now all use magic crit. Very nice, if it is right.
    No one I know likes the new crit-"percentage" numbers. Mage Light was much higher in % and, very unfortunately, got nurfed.

    I just wanted to call out some skills that can be used, not that have to be used. If you know better ones to help him focus on Puncturing Sweep as his main (spammable) attack, please name them!
    - Inner Light also buffs the magicka pool (some more dmg)
    - Reflective Light / Solar barrage are still used, not just for Minor Sorcery but also for faster Ultimate regeneration

    - Empower is still used to buff the ultimate and Blazing Shield, which will be up pretty often if he plays that spec in PvE
    - Entropy's 8% more health also plays a very minor role for Blazing Shield

    I still thought of daggers because of melee crit (pre 1.6), my fault. I just know dual sword-builds from sorcerers (detonation builds). Which weapon would suit him best for PvE?

    Evil hunter still remains valuable for the proc and the stamina regeneration, more in pvp but also vs. undead/daedra (if he levels at undead farming spots but this is a minor point).

    Luckily, not all information is out-of-date, even if zos keeps changing as much as they can to make life harder for some :smiley:
