archaeologist class?

I was just playing yesterday when the idea for an archaeologist class came to me. They could use ancient technology and knowledge for summon-able dwemer mechanisms, traps, and long forgotten magic. I think it would be a pretty interesting. Maybe give them class specific siege weapons even if just cosmetic.

What do you guys think?

Sounds good! More content is better than the zero content we've received for nearly a year now. I'd be happy with nearly anything new at this point.

They won't add new classes, but maybe a skill line, why not ...

It's not very forgotten magic if a fifth of Tamriel uses it daily.

I mean just use magic I'm talking more like magical knowledge or skills that were once used by an extinct race. I don't know enough lore to really use a specific example.

The reason I think it would be cool is because its something we've never seen in an Elder Scrolls game. I could see it being a skill tree as well. much like vampirisim and werewolves.

lore wise the Aldmer (ancient elf, the race from which all the current Mer races are descended), the Dwemer (a race of Mer that are now thought to be rendered extinct at the hands of the Chimer (now Dunmer) following the Battle of the Red Mountain), and the Daedra (creatures that are native to Oblivian but are allowed passage from time to time to the world of Tamriel to wreck havoc) are the only race I know of that your idea can be based around. Instead of a class, I can totally buy it as a skill tree.

I can dig a skill tree. Make it start out with a somewhat difficult quest to find that eventually leads us to learning a little more about the down fall of the dwemer and/or the falmer. A good story to tell and interesting gameplay.

The idea reminds me of old D&D where you had lots of classes, some very specialized, and sometimes the difference between them was small. I wish this game were like that, because the way MMO's are done nowadays is that characters pretty much fit into cookie-cutter molds, and groups/parties/guilds only value the cookie-cutter molds that make the best math equations.
If I wanted to make a swashbuckler who suffered less penalties fighting on boats and in water, or held his breath better or could own a boat and sail it to port locations, it would allow people to create more unique characters.

Originally before the later phases of alpha/beta they were planning on having a Warden class which was like the utility/heal class. i.e. I would think the Monk class in WoW would be similar.

I like this idea, and more generally the idea of having a variety of different, maybe highly specialised, skill trees to choose from.
