Guild store

BrutalBarracuda
Hi all, i wish to start a guild that focuses only on trading. I understand that 50 members are needed to unlock the guild store option and guild stores can be accessed from banks. My question is do i need to hire one of these merchants ive been hearing about or are they optional? If they are optional, what is their purpose?
Cheers

The traders are technically optional, however, as a pure trading guild, you should consider them mandatory. Reason being the Trader is the only means by which you can make your wares viewable by the gaming public at large. Without a Trader, only members of your Guild will be able to buy items from your store.

One more question actually, is there a limit as to how many items can be on sale at any one time?
    Cheers

Each member can post a maximum of 30 items at a time. The maximum number of members is 500. Therefore, a full trade guild with each member selling the max number of items would be capped at 15,000 items for sale.

Some items can be sold in stacks (i.e 100 Sanded Nightwood) and the full stack counts as 1 listed item.

Final question i promise, can you sell stacked goods? For example could i sell a stack of 20 iron ore as 1 item, or would i have to sell it as 20 individual items?

If you sell the item as a stack (I.e 20 iron ore) then it will only count as one item listed against your maximum of 30 listings.

This system is stupid. So if I understand correctly, the only way for me to realistically sell items to the general public is by joining one of these trading guilds and selling through them? How many other guilds exist like this and how would players know which ones to shop at?

Why don't they just have a single auction house that everyone can access like World of Warcraft? Its such a cleaner, simpler system.

You dont thats the point. You have to find Guild merchants in which the guild sells good stuff (most guild just put loot trash) but they also change every week because of the merchant biding system. Colovian Crusaders in AD at vokhul guard is my favorite so far! I check out their stock everyday
