Is anyone even using destructive touch ?

I was wondering, if anyone thinks, that destructive touch is usefull.
I'm so annoyed by my low Sorcerer damage and wanted to find ways how to fix that. Lightning splash is not a good solution, because 1 step of an enemy, and he's out and forces me to recast it at his position, which of course destroys my damage per second instead of boosting it.

So I tried destructive touch (I took destructive reach, because I'm using lightning staff and the destructive fist "bonus" isn't usefull for this element, so I prefer the range)
I thought, the DoT of destructive touch would be a nice DPS boost. But it only ticks for around 1100 damage per second. Which is nothing and my dps meter doesn't even raise at all.

Don't know, if the master staff could change this. But it will take years for me to get my hands on this thing. And I'm talking about dungeon DPS. Because I tested it, and the DoT of Destructive touch isn't even a forced DoT, it's a blockable DoT. So if you hit an enemy with it, the DoT doesn't even apply to it, which makes it useless in pvp.

It's used a lot both in PvP and PvE. In PvE it's useful to stop monsters from attacking you, and in PvP it's used to knock people down walls and ledges, or just stun them. It's a skill that fits into the majority of caster builds.

It's not a DPS skill though, you don't use it to do damage, you use it for its ranged knockback and stun effects.

But they claimed, people will want to have this on their dps bar. I remember an ESO live show, until 1.6 was released. They said, they really buffed destructive touch and it will be nice to have for dps now. Which is not the case.

If you need more damage, use Force Pulse weaved with medium inferno staff attacks, and then cast Crystal Fragments whenever it procs. Against multiple enemies you use Elemental Ring.

Yea I already saw this a few weeks ago and I agree. The fire staff is so superior. I don't understand, why they want us to use this and nothing but this. Because one must be stupid, to not take the fire staff for DPS. But this was the case since release....

But I will not surrender. I hate fire and I'm not going to let them force me to use it. Even though this means, my damage is horrible. And I actually can't imagine, that the fire staff is thaaat strong.

Okay, I wasn't sure if you had because you were wondering if a master lightning staff would help.

It's not all about the DPS, it's using the skills so that you leverage their strengths and synergies. As for DPS, the only DPS you need to worry about really is, do the mobs die before you do. Trials and PvP end game is where DPS can be a factor, but really, Trials are more concerned about DPS, PvP is still tactics and positioning.

Lightening Flood is best used on an enemy you just knocked down like with Crystal Shards, and the amount of damage it does is pretty dang good at higher levels, 600 points every half second for 6 seconds. I also use it when tanking on my sorc as the enemies surround me, I drop it right on top of me. In fact, with Boundless Storm and Hardened Ward, I can just stand there keeping my shields up and dropping lightening flood every 12 seconds and never use another attack and kill crowds of mobs that I pull.

Destructive Reach is more crowd control to keep mobs away from your squishy self. Knock them back, apply other attacks until they get close, then knock them back again. There is a cool down on the knock back, I think it is 4 to 5 seconds, but that is enough time to keep them away from you as you hit them with other attacks.

A Master Staff is a must if you want to use Destructive Touch for DPS.

... But personally I don't feel like it increases DPS at all. The cast is clunky and the time spent on casting seems to negate any DPS advantage you might otherwise get.

It's Instant, there is no cast time. There is an animation, but the effect is immediate after button release.

Now I realize it. Since I saw your comment, it seemed a bit... weird to me. Like the Build Spotlights, where they sell the most useless skills in the game as THE answer for everything. You're a community manager or something like that. So Sorry, I can't take you serious.

I use destructive reach. The spell really starts to shine if your a dunmer who invested in elemental damage from champion tree. I use it as part of my night blade funnel health heavy fire staff attack weaving rotation. Works pretty good as a cc in Pvp with good damage.

The fire version of Destructive touch is potentially useful if your opponent is not wearing a damage shield (having one completely negates the CC component and the DoT making using this ability a waste of magicka) and your DK tank is not chaining in enemies (you tank will be pulled out of position).

The frost version is less useful as its projectile is slower and thus easier to dodge, also an immobilized opponent can still fight back.

The lightning version is terrible as it offers no CC and the minor damage to adjacent enemies is too conditional and too negligible.

The best use of the fire staff is it will knock things away from you, allowing you to cast safely. As well as heavy attacks do more damage thanks to a passive but overall the staffs do the same damage, just different effects, fire normally does more damage because it is fire, ice freezes which stuns, because well that is what ice does and electric I believe hits multiple enemies. Destructive reach with a fire staff is so good because of the knockback though, and yes I do use it mainly for that reason, dps doesn't really matter till endgame anyway, during leveling you want to be able to survive. If you are at endgame then there are other things you can take to do more damage. However the dot would probably work well in a fire dot build for like dk or something.

It's a utility skill best suited for PvP. It's not a dps game changer.
