Should Rank and Alliance War + Support skill-lines be account wide?

Milky

As someone who enjoys playing multiple characters, multiple builds, and races (sometimes multiples of the same class) I feel like I am very heavily penalized for doing this. Those that play 1 and only character have access to more skillpoints and more powerful passives and skills from Alliance War and Support skill lines.

I have worked just as hard as these other players, but because my time is split up among different characters, I am at a disadvantage.

What are your thoughts? I tried to include all sensible options.

Yes, I should have ONE overall rank, AND my skill lines should be the same level on all characters.

yes, as i suggested before new character should partially participate on old rank. So if you have rank 8 you can start new char at 4, or get faster leveling ranks you already leveled before on first toon

An interesting idea. I'd still prefer to just have all my AP in one pool, but that wouldn't be as bad as the current system, that's for sure.

I always felt in MMOs that when you have character only systems instead of account wide systems you limit the amount of Alts made.

MMOs should be encouraging Alts being made..as it keeps people playing your game

I started PvP'ing regularly in November and am still at only Rank 17. It feels like I have put in a fair amount of time and effort, although I know I am not the most "efficient" at farming AP.

To have to do it all again with other characters is something that is juts not likely to happen and is a regular deterrent to playing alts in Cyrodill as I fell I am "wasting my AP/XP" when it is not going to go towards my main character.

They did it in GW2, they did it with the Champion system, I don't see why they shouldn't do it with Alliance rank. Especially if they keep locking very strong skills like Vigor behind the grind.

We've been saying this since the beginning but have not listened. Champion System would have been the perfect opportunity to integrate it with account wide champion points but nope, they missed it out.

Nope, what is the point of starting an alt and getting them into PvP if the only real PvP progression has already finished for me. This is just my opinion but I would be less inclined to start an alt if I have no reason to do PvP with them, it just takes one part of the game away from me.

I do agree though that the skills should be easier to obtain, the gap between each unlock is a bit much. Maybe adding more to the skill lines would solve the lack of progression in the skill line.

Yes, and for the same reasons that they made Champion Points account-wide. TESO needs to be more alt-friendly to sustain our long-term interest.

I'm all for having the skill lines on the same level, since I'm against any form of barriers of entry. On the other side it is still possible to see who good a player is on a certain character by checking the AvA rank. On the other side the AvA rank will no longer be a skill availability indicator making it harder to estimate your enemy, but I'm willing to sacrifice the second for the first.

It wouldn't be such an issue if you could change your race, your class and your faction... then you wouldn't need alts so much. But, as things are now, account wide PvP stuff would be a godsend for players forced into alts because of nerfs and buff server issues.

Honestly this would be great, as it stands it's very annoying as I have two PvP characters that I play depending on my mood, both are about rank 10. It's a real pain having to level them up individually in PvP. Personally I think once a skill is unlocked in PvP it should be available on any character

Sure, it would be fun to have 50+ skillpoints on a lvl 10 char without collecting any skyshard and running around on blackwater with combat frenzy and some other nice passives. But I don't think it would be good for the game if experienced players who create an alt get another advantage over beginners.

Share the AvA rank but keep skill line progression separate. If you're going to share alliance skills, why not weapon, armor, crafting and everything else? I'd love to roll my fresh L10 and run around with meteor, RD or streak ;P

What buff server issues? The only buff server issue is that they exist.

It would give a somewhat unfair advantage to older players over newer players in bwb. But let us be honest... CP points allready do so much dmg to the balance so who cares at this point. Just make the new AR skills (proxy det, vigor, flare, ..) unuseable in non vet campaign. Veteran players will have acces to the passives and caltrops/purge. No matter how you look at it, older players will always have an advantage over newer players. Even without cp points and account wide alliance rank.

On the topic of unfairness in the non-veteran campaign:

You already have champ point advantage over those other players. But what if all the account progression and rank didn't unlock until you hit Vet rank 1? Wouldn't this solve the problem? No extra advantage (besides the current champ point one) to new characters.

That's actually a good point. Perhaps the skill points get banked until you hit VR1.

AvA rank a skill indicator... please don't...

ZOS should have just made this account wide like any other MMOs.

And then suddenly at VR1 I get nearly 40 Skill Points? Sounds perfectly in line with the mess that is the Champion System.

I don't see a problem with leveling skilllines again.

I only have one char with former emp and decent AR. I have two others with barrier/caltrops at least and i'll have to do it on a fourth soon. Sure, it would be convenient to have everything unlocked on all chars, but I don't think is is necessary. There should be some incentive to play and there should be a significant amount of work to be done to create a twink. It's already bad enough that some people do the dsa weekly with 8 chars. Making all progression account-wide would make people reroll for every new flavor of the month.

On the other hand, I'd really like to see the rank progression become account-wide. It's purely visual for bragging rights (and to judge if an enemy is experienced or not). Imho both points are valid for a person twinking or gathering experience on multiple chars: It is an accomplishment that rewards bragging rights and it would be beneficial for e.g. non-vet players to know what they're facing and maybe understand why certain chars seem to be strangely strong.

@skillpoints: i really don't care. I don't think it matters as much, especially if you'd unlock them at some vet level where chars usually have enough anyway. Might as well decouple char-wide alliance rank (1-50) from account wide (make it >50, some hav already reached the max anyway) and reward skillpoints for the char-wide rank and icons for the account-wide one.
