How can I get close to 30k Health as a tank?

How can I get close to 30k Health as a tank?

I have a VR10 DK Tank.
I have put all of my attributes into HEALTH.
I have STAM enchants, stam cost-reduction jewelry and use blue stam food/drink.
I have about 130 Champion Points and have emphasized Stam, Health, and Plate Armor selections from the constellations.
I use 5/1/1 for the 6% undaunted buff
I have a grand total of about 22k health.

Yet I've seen some tanks with 30k health.

I know I have a few levels to go before I get to equip the fun gear (i.e. of the Footman, etc).

May I ask how I can increase my health pool?
Should I switch to HEALTH enchants? I'm a master crafter, so I can make some purple ones (I think they give you about 600-ish health for the big pieces of gear).
That still isn't going to put me close to 30k.

Is it certain gear that has major health buffs?

Any info would be welcomed.

Thank you in advance

You should put some enchants into health.
Hist Bark and Footman which are the most popular tanking sets both have health boosts.
Try to get infused on your large armor pieces.
    Also use VR10 food.
Some tanks also have pretty huge stat boost from racials(Imperial 10% stam 12% Health).
PVP alliance buffs also add quite a chunk of health.

Like @PBpsy alluded to, it depends what race you are.

How you achieve 30k+ health will depend on your racial passives, but TBH, there isn't really a need for 30k+ health until you start tanking the most difficult endgame stuff... looking @ you Manti...

I tank with 25-27k health through all vet dungeons, DSA, AA & HRC without any issues. The only time I respec for more health is for tanking SO.

Some tanks might be Imperials, that's a big bump right there. Also, putting structured entropy on your bar raises your health passively (and using it gives a small HoT). Also gear, some armor sets or the boss head sets from undaunted stuff have health bonuses.

Our tank says that more than 22k HP for HM Trials and vDSA is still way too much if you protect your arse properly (gear/skill-wise) and pay attention on how you spend your resources.

22K health without food is really good, it sounds like thats what you mean. I have 25.5 K unbuffed at VR14.

Upgrading your gear will make a huge difference. I have all purple gear atm. Once I get everything Gold everything it will be even higher. Use minimum of purple Health enchantments on ALL gear. I have a Redguard Tank that has 29.7K health, around 18.5K stamina, and 9k Magicka. The point is I have no health boosting passive and can still achieve this.

This is with VR10 two stat Food and no PVP Buffs. I do not even have to use the Lord Mundus Stone, although you can do that for a health boost. I personally prefer the Atronach for Magicka regen right now but I'm always tinkering with it. My attributes are 44 into Health and 18 into Stamina currently. I also have the Undaunted Mettle Passive.

I use Hist Bark, Footman, as everyone mentioned and my other two pieces are Engine Guardian set to help me maintain resources. If you don't have an undaunted set you can craft a 2 piece set that gives you more health if you want. Imperial would probably be better to allow for me to put more attributes into Stamina but I take advantage of the Redguard passives to manage my stamina and have plenty of magic for the spells I need.

Just continue to level and equip the best gear once you are VR14. You should not have any trouble getting close to 30K health. If you can use attributes to get close to 20k stamina, put all else in health plus health enchants you will be fine.

However, as many said, you probably don't need 30k health at all. I have been experimenting with tweaks that I can use to optimize my build and more stamina might actually benefit me more.

    Good Luck!

what gear and skill setup are you using? what is your mundus? the lord with devines enchant on your crafted armour should help. also entropy morph (structured entropy) can give you 5% more HP on top of that.

and as some others above have mentioned, you don't need 30k hp for most instances. as a healer, i find a tank with 25k hp is plenty as long as they can block and taunt/control trash mobs without running out of resources.

First, thanks for everyone for posting. It's been very educational.

Keeping in mind I'm only VR10 and don't have access to the Footman set of gear (which I own but cannot equip yet), I sat down with a list of crafted gear and came up with 4 set bonuses:

    ==========================
VR10 CRAFTED TANK SET (HEALTH) (pre-1.6 set bonuses):
Ashen Grip (2) Adds 118 Max Health
Arena (2) Adds 118 Max Health
    Whitestrake’s Retribution (2) Adds 118 Max Health
    Orgnum’s Scale (2) Adds 10 Health Recovery; (3) Adds 118 Max Health
Eyevea Shalidor’s Curse (2) Adds 118 Max Health; (3) Adds 4% Healing Taken; (4) Adds 118 Max Health
    Vampire’s Kiss (2) Adds 10 health Recovery; (3) Adds 118 Max Health; (4) Adds 4% Healing Taken
    Alessia’s Bulwark (2) Adds 157 Armor; (3) Adds 118 Max Health
    Death’s Wind (2) Adds 157 Armor; (3) Adds 118 Max Health; (4) Adds 118 Max Health
Hist Bark (2) Adds 157 Armor; (3) Add 10 Health Recovery; (4) Adds 118 Max Health
    Oblivion’s Foe (2) Adds 10 Health Recovery; (3) Adds 10 Stamina Recovery

    ==========================

I also found a great website:
    http://esoacademy.com/set-bonus-items/
It has a NICE tick box that lets you pick which stat to look for.
I ticked HEALTH and it comes up with a set of dropped and crafted gear that suits what I've ticked.
    Also has jewelry.

I had to update my client last night and then go to bed early (work comes very early for me), but I'll craft this gear tonight and will let you guys know my stats before and after.

    Thanks again

How many Champion Points do you have? Each Warrior Champion Point gives you more health. The first point is 1% bonus health and it goes down with each point after that, but they add up. I have about 170 Champion points and I am at about 10% bonus health at this point. With Undaunted Mettle, it would be up to about 16% bonus health. Add in Structured Entropy and you are up to 24% bonus health. So a 1039 health set bonus would actually be 1288 when equipped. Put a 784 health enchantment on a piece of gear and it would actually be 972 when equipped. Even food that gives you about 5000 health per the tooltip would be worth 6200 when consumed.

So it is not just about getting more health, but all the various methods to increase your health by a %, so that you get as much as possible when you do add health.

Yup, Structured Entropy's health boost is definitely something to consider. My tank is NOT an Imperial, but I still have 25k-27k health, with no food buffs. Actually, lately I've been opting to use bi-stat magicka/stamina because I've found I don't really need more health, and blue food gives more stats.

I've done the same as you, with all attributes points into health, and my gear is pretty standard for tanks: 5 Footman's, 5 Hist Bark, 2 Engine Guardian. By default, you should be able to use health enchants rather than stamina on two or more armor pieces/your shields because each Footman's ring gives stamina, like ~700-750 each or so. Definitely, CPs will also help in your quest for more health (I've got ~200).

I wouldn't sweat it too much, though, since you're VR10, as you say, and it's actually not that difficult to get that magical (healthical?) 30k with high level enchants and food.

Great additional posts - thanks to all for contributing.
I probably have about 140-ish Champion Points - not 100% sure and am at work at the moment.

I'll craft some new gear tonight and let you guys know the results (before/after).

    Question:
Using the above sets (remember, I'm only VR10), should I make 5 LEATHER (for the Stamina regen) and then 1 plate (chest) and 1 cloth (wrists or belt)?
With me focusing on crafting gear HEALTH with set bonuses, and using HEALTH enchants, the leather gear would go towards helping with my Stamina.
I have points spent in the Medium leather armor passives, so I would get the full benefits.
Just concerned about Leather armor only having half the armor of Plate.

    Any thoughts?

Actually, medium armor has 3/4 the armor of heavy, as of patch 6, so that's good. However, the 5 piece bonus from heavy armor decreases the cost of blocking by 20%. Not saying what you want to do won't work, especially at VR10, but personally I'd feel rather uncomfortable not having the heavy passives and extra armor.

But hey, try it out! I know I was experimenting before VR14, and tbh I still am.

I'll make 2 sets of blue gear - same identical sets, just one 5 leather and the other 5 plate.
I'll do screen shots and check out the Stam regen while blocking a skeever and see how long I can do it without running out of Stam.
I'll post some screen shots and results later tonight.

Thanks again - didn't know about the 20% block reduction cost (I knew there were tanky benefits to wearing full plate, but didn't know them off the top of my head).

I think you'll eventually find the best results running vr10 blue mag/stam food. It makes a big difference in keeping resources for your abilities. For now, hist bark/unnassailable would probably be a good setup, and you could fill out the rest with whatever else for now.

I'm by no means an expert on tanking, but I've tanked vet dungeons with vr10 purple food on my DK caster running with 62 points into magicka (about 23k health w/structured entropy slotted). Especially since you're not v14 yet, I'd suggest trying to see what you can get to without food up. By the time you get to vr14, you'll have a few more attribute points, more CP, stronger gear, and stronger enchants; go with some health enchants and roll with drink and see how you like it.

    I always use Blue food/drink. I typically have a preference during a build - i.e. either a Stam-based build or a Magicka-based build.
Why sacrifice some buff amount to a stat that you use, just to buff a stat that you don't use.
Blue food/drink always gives you more in the two stats than purple gives you in three.

Also goes to planning. I try to have a spell that uses the 'off' stat, in case the mains stat needs a few seconds to regen back up.

    Thanks for the input

The thing I find with tanking is that all three stats are important.
stam for blocking/dodge roll.... most damage shields and mitigation/survival skills use magicka and health has to be at least high enough so you dont get one shot....
In short, I highly recommend tri stat food/drink.

Obviously it's a little different for DPS/healing where it's almost compulsary to stack either mag or stam.

I crafted two sets of blue gear (leather and plate - see above for details of set bonuses)

    Race: High Elf
    Champion Points: 154
    ones of interest:
Riposte (15% chance to return damage when blocking)
Mooncalf (increase stamina recovery by 6%)
Health (increase health regeneration by 6%)
Warlord (reduces the Stamina cost of spells and abilities by 6.9%)
Buffs: none - no food, drink or enchants

    naked: Leather: Plate:
    Max Health: 18986 22934 24539
    Max Stam--: 10654 11182 11182
    Health Recovery: 360 487 611
    Stam Recovery--: 626 801 626

Without a doubt, I never even came close to running out of Stamina while I was blocking.
I taunted a VR4 Mud Crab in Malabal Tor then blocked.
My Stamina never dipped below 90%.
(Due to the nature of crabs, he burrowed underground from time to time)
I then went further out into the wilds of Malabal Tor and picked a fight with two VR4 Senches.
JUST BLOCKING I did not run out of Stam, but it did cut a lot deeper into my Stam reserves (it dipped down to 20%, but I wasn't doing any light/heavy attacks to build it back up)
I blocked until they died from the damage from Riposte.
Based on this, I upgraded my plate gear to purple and added health glyphs.
My health is now 27,500 (with no food buff). I'm very happy with that.

if you use evasion (which you should), that will cut down your stamina needs even further.

EDIT: i always keep evasion up even when i'm blocking with 5/5 histbark bonus. i run 5/5 histbark and some ashengrip with my full stamina v3 NB and she has something like 24-26K HP with blue 45 food.

Thanks for your input and posts.

That'll be even better running drink. Also, don't underestimate the importance of magicka recovery as a tank. You'll be able to chain and talon a lot more of the pack.

I have a lvl 10 food buff recipe (health and stam) as well as a drink (health and stam).
I get 'x' amount of magicka and stam each time I either block or take damage (Plate passive).
While I was blocking, I'd throw talons down and resume blocking. Hit, bam, magicka and stam level rose.
Plus, being a high elf (hey, this was my very first toon back in 5-day early access) I get magicka bonuses.

Think I'm over 31k with my food buff, but I've always preferred drink. With the soft caps removed on regen, I'd rather be able to quickly replenish my resource pool than just have a bigger pool (as long as the pool is a decent size to begin with).

My tank is a high elf too. With the right equipment, CPs, and overall stats, it makes no difference whatsoever on tank efficacy. And like you said, by default you'll have more magicka/regen, which translates to better survival.
