A Fix for Zergs!

It just dawned on me that the AoE interventions Zenimax and community have been discussing in 2014 was about receiving AoE damage. People went crazy about AoE caps, and we got somehting like it, although zerg armies remained. I think that, in order to fix this, how about we focus on the damage output of a zerg?

Get this: people within your group are excluded (in large groups this means the other three people in group 2, etc).
-10% damage for each ally within 5m. -3% armour and magic resistance.
-5% damage for each ally within 10m. -2% armour and magic resistance.
-1% damage for each ally within 15m. -1% armour and magic resistance.
These numbers cap at 90% reduction.

We can balance this out with the following AoE changes:
No person cap; everybody within the AoE receives damage.
For each unit over 4 (including player), -10% damage, shield and heal effectiveness, this caps at 50%. For heals and shields, people in your group of 4 are given priority.

With both of these factors, try being a zerg aoe bbq.

    It's not arena based PVP. It's open world PVP, with ZOS setting the group cap at 24. Why would they go against their original format and discourage large scale grouping like this? Just to dispel lag? If it's just for that outcome, this seems like the laziest and sloppiest option and I think they've made plenty of those calls already.

    What you speak of would require the complete restructuring of Cyrodiil. It would also be easily worked around by everyone remaining in the same TS and running multiple smaller groups.

    Not a fan of zergs or bombsquads but no... Seriously no... This is not arena as poster above said large scale battles are a part of cyrodiil. They should just remove all aoe attacks except for ultimates in pvp.

    I am 99% of the time solo and alone. I hate having to face zergs as much or more than the next guy. I do however realize it's part of the open world experience, adds to player diversity, and appreciate the added challenge. Hence my vote.

    I still think the fix for Zergs is:

    Making Siege DOT's and Debuffs Unpurgeable.

    Do that, and a small coordinated group will be able to own larger zergs with superior tactics and placement.,..as firing a Cold Fire Treb/Ballista right into the heart of that meaty zerg from an elevated/back line position will certainly result in their death or their numbers being decimated.

    Right now, anyone can slot cleanse/efficient purge and spam the tar out of it with a few resto abilities rendering it obsolete.


    And how will a small group survive the sieges shot on them? There is no spot in the inner of a keep that can't be sieged from outside except maybe the 1st flag not sure. The zerg will go to top where they have siege supporting them from outside. Some will oil 1st flag while rest goes to 1st flag with oil support. Then take 2nd flag with friendly sieges from outside.

    Bigger groups will and more sieges and more heals. The changes to sieges already made it hard enough for smaller groups with the changes to ultimate gain and negate nerf. The biggest problem for is against zergs are the sieges they place. Even fighting 30v6 open field they place literraly 6 sieges.

    Instead of forcing even bigger raids by increasing siege damage we need changes that punish bobbing up.

    Friendly fire from aoes. Start FF at 10% damage and increase it per cast in x amounts of seconds to a cap of 70%.

    Or add a ranged aoe curse to Alliance War skills to strip buffs off of opponents.

    I don't understand what the OP wants, but do I know that the MASSIVE nerf to Elemental Blockade is one of the biggest reasons a lone player has trouble taking on a large group.

    @ZoS, please remove ALL nerfs to Elemental Blockade and raise the damage to at least 2000 DPS!

    Take a look at this: http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Disease

    Not only should it be possible to contract most of those diseases in Cyrodiil, but some of them should last for several minutes and be unpurgable except by visiting a shrine. Drinking certain potions could also lessen the effects temporarily. The particularly infectious ones would put a small red circle around a friendly player, letting you know to stay away from them, lest you catch the disease as well.

    Now I'm not saying disease should run rampant throughout the Alliance war, but there should be just enough of it (1% chance of contracting a random effect when being hit by disease damage, 10 minute immunity to any further diseases) to make people nervous about all stacking up together all the time.

    Obviously this could be abused for griefing your own faction, so a few ground rules
    • Most diseases would not be immediately fatal, but would become worse and worse as the minutes pass
    • Diseased characters move at 70% normal speed (overrides all other effects/sprinting), easy to avoid them
    • Diseases take a couple minutes to spread and require close proximity
    • Every keep has two shrines (1 inner, 1 outer) where all diseases are purged within a 5m radius

    I'm sure someone can still think of ways to exploit this (like everyone all staying stacked on the shrines 24/7, for example; solution: siege damage can destroy enemy shrines for an additional layer of strategy) but that's going to happen no matter what, so the devs would just need to come up with creative solutions.
