Should Archers have to restock their arrow quivers?

If you have ever played any other elder scrolls games, you are familiar with archers restocking their arrows. With so many OP archers running around, should they have buy/craft arrows?

This add extra cost and issues with only one weapon, so I do not think so. It makes it unfair - for lack of a better word.

I say yes selfishly... I would like the mechanism, but I've seen its downfall in other games. And I agree with many of the reasons why.

Absolutely! Also add reagents to spell casts that would be fun!

This wouldn't make a difference. Spammers would still spam, and everyone else would be frustrated with a tedious mechanic that has been eliminated from nearly every other MMO.

This isn't a single player game designed to feed you a limited number of weapons as you progress. This is an MMO where the majority of players play at end game and tedium only contributes to lost subscribers.

If you said yes, do you also support tanks having their shields broken by random chance in fights or melee dps risking disarms or magicka anything having to consume soulgems or spell sheets to cast every spell?

Very bad suggestion, in my opinion.

I actually do support those things. But I also know why they have been snipped out of games.

My main char is an archer and I would love this. I have been asking for this since beta when i was disappointed with projectiles.

No, mainly because of PvP, where you will often have to leave arrows behind after firing them. It's fine in PvE, and it was fine in the single player games, because the pace is slower and the only block to you picking up your arrows is surviving the encounter and your patience.

    is it throwback thursday already?

only way an ammo system gets added is if bow gets a damage buff putting it on top of ALL OTHER options due to that extra cost.

    is this what you want?

please do not make half-arsed suggestions without thinking through game balance.

Bows have laughably low dps, and limiting number of arrows would just make them even more of a burst and throw away weapon.

Other than the pain in the buttinski that it would be, out of my eight characters my Nightblade archer is the weakest (in terms of DPS). Obviously, a different build might work better (the "let-me-suck-your-life-out" build is crap), but even slotting nothing but bow skills on my primary skill bar doesn't make much difference.

The problem is that the "let-me-suck-your-life-out" build is magicka-based, while the bow skills are stamina-based. So, it becomes a hybrid build... which, as of 1.6, sucks donkey appendages.

Basically, unless I get crits, my veteran ranked archer does crap for damage. She's survivable, but doesn't contribute much to doing damage.

So, since it is already a pain in the buttonski, why make it even more of a headache?

EDIT: Wish to heck I could type worth a damn...

One of the reasons I did not purchase and play ESO when it launched was because Archery did not require Ammo. (I could afford the Subscription, it really was for me about the ammo-less archery)

I am still not happy about the "Quiver of Endless Arrows" design. I finally figured any hope for Archery Ammo in MMOs was gone for good and I might as well play ESO. I have given up on expecting Devs to make any MMO the old way. If Zen added the option for us to use a quiver and have to restock arrows for a slight bonus/buff I would jump for joy... and I would even use Ammo for no bonus/buff to be honest, even if it cost me gold to do so.

At this point though it's too late to ask Zen to add Ammo as a requirement imo so I won't suggest it. It would just anger too many players. I voted YES but honestly I would not ask the other Players to change now.

You are in the minority. Game developers can not cater to a minority and make money.

Adding extra cost to this weapon without it doing more damage will just punish newer players. Remember that your gold income is pretty much nil or negative until you get near endgame.

I am well aware I am a part of the minority. I also said at end of my post that changing it now would not be a good thing. I said it is too late now imo. I myself have trouble with making enough money ingame, for I don't have characters near endgame.

If the subject of the poll was "do you think Zenimax could have made a larger profit with ESO if we had to use arrows/quivers" then I would have voted No.

But that was not the poll's question. The Poll asked whether we would rather have arrows or not (as I read it). Simple question. My answer was yes I would rather have arrows. I prefer ammo for archery in online games. Personal preference.

My answer had nothing to do with whether Zenimax makes a profit from ESO or not, and frankly as a customer it is not my responsibility to concern myself with Zenimax's profits at all. My answer was a response to the Poll question given.

I vote no because its not a fun mechanic. Sure things are fine when you have arrows, but when you run out then you cannot attack with your weapon of choice at all and are now doing very very low damage because of it. Its not fun.

Also, there is nothing involving about making or buying arrows. All you'd do is go buy a few thousand from a vendor or craft a few thousand and forget about it until the next time you needed to restock. There would be no choice in what arrows you'd use as there would clearly be one that's better than the rest. Even if you make different types do the same damage then someone will come along and find out using X arrow makes you have 5 more dps and then everyone would say its the best and if you don't use them then you suck.

ALSO, this would make other weapon types more attractive as there are no maintenance costs (read: arrows) for using a 2 handed sword or a staff.

Its just not a fun mechanic.

Staves should need batteries for lightning, bottles of naptha for fire, and picnic coolers to store ice. Swords should require a honing stone after ever battle or its damage decays. Maces should... hmm... I guess maces should be the coolest weapon in the game.

As is, we do restock arrows. Our quivers generate arrows that evaporate a few seconds after hitting a target.

It would be kind of cool in a realistic sense, and would add a new crafting class, (fletcher), but gamewise wouldn't be workable. In UO it's done this way and most people don't use archers, and the few that are archers, carry 600 to 1000 arrows around.

    I say YES,

But then give me options when crafting my arrows,

Let me make them armour piercing, Poison, disease, fire, frost, stamina/magicka/life stealing,

This will make me more OP than you think i am now.

    I love the idea.

The problem with this is that it's a type of weapon decay and that Decay would have to be applied to all weapons so Melee doing less damage the decay it has, staffs would need recharging and breaking shields all of that would add much more coding and calculations for the server

Yes, but where would you equip arrows, where potions go in the quick slot? And it would be awesome if you could refine wood into arrows if you had woodworking skills that required a certain bow level, sort of like how you used to have certain levels in crafting to make dwemer frames from scrap.
