There is alot of several builds discussed on forum. @BuggeX with his irony have 100% right, unfortunately 1.6 - 2.0 thats the sorc way, shieldspam to survive...
Try something like that:
Destro lightning
crystal/curse/crushing/streak/entropy - meteor
Resto
hardened/evasion/healing ward/harness/mines - soul asalut
I am not into max/min, and i am not typical BoL spammer, i prefer streak, casue its much more effective vs stamian users, up to u.. Always the best way to be effective in pvp is to discover some good build by ur own
Gear i am curently using:
4 x martial
2 x torug
2 x androitness
5 x warlock (imo is really good if u want to blink away - 3 more streaks, oh yeah!)

Gear :
1x masters fire staff
1x masters resto staff
4x healer
4x martial
2x engine guardian heavy/medium
Use blue magicka/stam regen drink, this build works best solo with 2k magicka regen 1k stam regen im always able to escape if i get caught by a zerg or something, Toggle/untoggle magelight to proc might of the guild for strong frags
Entropy provides u with 20% boost to ur spell power, also with might of the guild (last mage guild passive) u get 20% more to ur next spell, works for 20s.. for examplme cause that passive with entropy u can boost ur meteor ultimate by 20% if u use it b4 casting it.. its a lot, also sloting it with meteor on same bar will increase ur magicka pool and magicka regen by 4% and increase ur max hp by 8% while slotted

How are you running 12 items?nothing2591 wrote: »Bar 1 - Force pulse / crystal / ward / bol / magelight / shooting star

Nice build and one I would like to get. But allowing for the 2 Engine piece drops and the 2 Staff drops, it would take a hell of a long time to get

Gotcha. Must have misread.Merlin13KAGL wrote: »

Yeah, but that was about entropy not the MG passive.

Entropy = 3 bonuses from one slot vs Magelight's meh from two. It's far from a tough call for me!
Entropy's also dirt cheap and can be cast on multiple targets. All food for thought.

(Head, Shoulders, weapon, until you get the Monster set) Ideally, anything that gives you more Magicka and Spell Power, +health as a set bonus is helpful too.
Much of it depends on your playstyle, whether grouping or solo, whether you intend to stay ranged or be knee-deep in it. Also, whether you intend to try to deal damage, heal, or combination support. Same again whether setting up for AoE vs single target. You can let you playstyle determine your build or vice versa.
CC's will help you keep others from getting away and give you more opportunity to. Also, bear in mind that many run reflect of some kind, so anything considered a projectile (including Meteor) has a chance to come back at you.
Your main reason for magelight is going to be for detection purposes, but it only works on the one morph. The extra crit isn't that great anymore, and it does still take two slots.
Overall, destro/restro is pretty common, with a morph of Force Shock, Destro touch, Curse, and Mage's Wrath as a finisher.
@Ryuho One thing to note, Might of the Guild only good for 5 seconds, not 20. So you want to cast things in short sequence when you trigger a MG skill.
OP, @LegendaryMage has a thread with a very effective 1v1 and 1vX build, complete with CP's, gear, and rotation.
If you're still having trouble, kick me a message and we can talk more.
Not enough mention of Overload in this thread!
As good as meteor is..... with a fully charged overload & decent spell power you can go on a killing spree of epic proportions using just overloaded light attacks!
Just be careful of reflects!

I started doing pvp when I was in my early veteran ranks as well, and I can tell you that there is a big difference when you are lower veteran rank compared to max. Not only the obvious gear and stat difference, but you become stronger with your class when you have played a lot with it and know the mechanics. Pvp is also great for learning, but if you want to kill people on your own you need to level up.
