How do I increase my damage in Cyrodiil? I am nothing compared to other players.

Hi,
I am a veteran rank 9 in PvP using a stamina build. I'm a Nightblade and my main weapon is a bow and secondary is sword and shield.
Prior to engaging in a fight, I begin with using the piercing mark skill on an enemy and then follow up by using Focused Aim (morph from snipe I think). The problem is, when I have used Focus Aim I barely make a change in many of my enemy's health. This would be okay to me, of course, but when people use the same attack against me it easily takes down 3/4 of my health and then they simply shoot me once more to kill me. Two shot kill. Whilst I understand that I cannot do insane damage on many enemies, surely there has to be a moment where I do a large burst on at least one enemy.
Furthermore I always get roasted in 1v1s or when riding somewhere on a horse. When I see people being killed they take a while to go down but I go down within at at maximum 15 seconds. I don't think PvP is for me although I would really like to get into it.
Here's an example of what happens to me when I attempt to fight:

One person did that to me in literally the blink of an eye.

I'm open to any advice.
Thanks!

Dont mark them before you open up, it just gives them warning to start blocking. That said, we need to know your build before anyone can tell you what you need to change.

    Hi,

My build starts with around 30 points into health and I think near 30 into stamina. 0 into magicka. I wear full medium armour with health and stamina enchants and my skills are:
    1. Impale
    2. Focused Aim
    3. Venom Arrow
    4. Dark Cloak
    5. Piercing Mark
    Ultimate : Soul Tether

My sword and shield is adapted for more evasive purposes and I haven't paid much attention to it but:
    1. Heroic Slash
    2. Evasion (from medium armour)
    3. Ambush
    4. Blur
    5. Aspect of Terror

What gear sets? I can tell you right now as a stam NB, I suggest you spec into dodge roll and stam regen w/ drink. You can get away with food for a group build if you slot siphoning strikes for the regen.

Other than that, you should ask ppl who actually play NB, lemme prepare the ritual to summon @Satiar.

Because of the removal of soft caps, people are stacking either weapon or spell damage now to get those big numbers.

If you want to see these large numbers, you need to be pushing 3k weapon damage. Try putting Flawless Dawnbreaker as your ultimate on your bow bar, for instance. Switching your sword and board to 2h would allow you to use Rally for Major Brutality.

    why not me??? :(

lol. alright OP, here is what i think you should do

    1. put an extra 10 points into stamina
    2. make sure your gear is all epics/legendaries
    3. if you are going to use piercing mark, make sure your victim is not blocking when you use your attack
    4. DODGE ROLL. you are a stamina build, make use of it,
    5. replace that shield with 2H and get rally. it is a DOT heal that can also give a burst heal. Very good stamina based heal no stamina NB should do without
    6. get lots of weapon damage. aim for 1.5-2K(more tbh, mines is low as fudge. lol)
    7. do not use blur and evasion at the same time, pick one or the other

and thats all i can offer without knowing your weapon damage, your gear sets, and all that lovely jaz

oh, and i think you should replace impale with killers blade, as killers blade scales off of stamina and weapon damage, and heals you when you kill someone with it

Where's your health at? Those two attacks in your screenshot amount to less than 17k.

My stamina NB has over 28k health and i use the siphon skill-line to keep me alive during fights.

From what you describe in the OP, I think the issue is more about developing that sixth sense for staying alive that comes with experience than damage. Your damage could be fine, but most players with high ranks can mitigate / heal a *lot* of damage through shields, dodging, heals, etc., so that it makes you think you are hitting like a wet noodle. You are running a stamina NB with no heal, that's going to take a lot of perfect dodge rolling to land that kill against another opponent.

I'm assume that is a non VR character battle leveled. I think it would be pretty hard to get 28K health on a VR9 and still have a decent amount of stamina and weapon power.

where is your surprise attack? Get rid of evasion and put it on your bar. Also move you cloak to your melee bar so you can pop it before you hit surprise attack for the stun. Get the skirmisher or air set and come up with a routine for roll dodging while in combat that lets you get some quick melee hits in and then back off to finish with bow....or switch that around. Don't go rambo. Everybody wants to be the 1 v X king but imho it's better to pick a squishy target, survey the area/environment and then hit hard and get out quickly and back into stealth.

get v14 as quick as possible. its like tieing your right arm on your back if you are not.

switch from s&b to 2H for rally(nice heal + dmg add), evasion and blur do not stack so skip evasion for sth usefull wasting a slot for a <5sec snare immunity is futile. opens slots for surprise attack and magnum shot.
