Addons break the balance of Crystal Fragments

Sanjirou
Sanjirou
I think the balance of Crystal Fragments is broken just because of addons which tell you when the skill procs.
The tooltip says that you should have a 35% chance, not a 100% chance.
Without Add-Ons its impossible to actually know when to use that skill and have a 100% chance for it to be instantly cast.

I would even say that using those kind of addons in regard to this skill is cheating because you get information that you normally don't have and the game doesn't even want to provide at all.

Maybe it would be better to change the way the 35% chance applies. Like "on every use you have a 35% chance that your Crystal Fragments will be cast instantly, will do 20% more damage, and will cost 50% less Magicka."
This simple change would make every sorcerer think twice before using that skill and it would also make other skills like Venom Arrow and Crushing Shock more useful.

At least this is how it feels to me right now. Any argument that might change that? Thank you in advance!

I have been playing without an addon for 3 months... I have no trouble telling when I have a proc.
Also making it CAST whenever it procs is a HORRIBLE IDEA and would SINGLEHANDEDLY destroy sorcerer.

90% of sorc builds out there use frags as a timed burst with curse/crushing shock

Anyone who willy nilly uses it as soon as it procs normally has a reason such as the enemy was CC'ed/it was nice timing when it proc'd.

I mainly use it for setting up curse - streak - entropy - frags and that allows for much better burst than I could ever pull if it just auto-casted.

There is an audible and visual queue when it is ready for instant cast.

I meant for it to have a 35% chance to proc, when you cast it.
But thanks for the info that you can tell when it procs without the addon.

I think the lesson to learn here is that people that don't play a class should actually learn about that class before calling for nerfs or calling something OP.

If your hands glow purple, you can insta-cast. No add-on required ;)

actually, most addons I know are often wrong about the proc.
If the hands glow purple, Frags is instant.
addons can miss procs, and addons have trouble tracking multiple procs in a short timeframe. addons also sometimes don't notice that you used up your proc.

They certainly help when they actually work, though

Doing it correctly has to do with checking the magicka cost of frags. Addons that do it poorly check for the buff.

That said, I write my own addons because I find the stock UI woefully inadequate. There is absolutely nothing wrong with giving players clear information about what buffs and debuffs are active.

Im an older gamer and my vision is not what it used to be. I use Inner Light which makes your hands glow purple and I use Hardened Ward which also makes your whole character glow purple. The audio cue is fine for spamming frags, but if I'm saving one to burst with, It's not always instantly clear to me if I still have a frag ready.

Using particle effects as the ONLY way to communicate all this buff debuff information is bad UI design imho. Large battles are a light show.

Serious question, what should I be looking for to tell if wings or defensive stance is up on my opponent if I did not see them cast it? Is there some sort of particle effect or is it just Meteor Russian Roulette?

The proc sound is loud and distinctive. It's not quite like Purge, but any barely competent sorc should be able to tell when Frags is up.

Wings gives the DK also an orange "shield", which is mostly orient to the players front and looks like it's made up of a million little orange floating particles.

defensive stance is basically impossible to see: it makes the players surface more reflective while active, like if they are covered in slick oil. But with any other particle effect on top of it, you'r very unlikely to notice the effect in combat

I have attached a picture of your typical sorcerer in the wild with crystal frags proc'ed. Note the ease of discerning the glowing hands:

Edit: To avoid any confusion I should add one thing. The glowing hands are not the big glowing white ball with the pronounced lens flare effect in the middle of the picture.

I can't even....believe you would say that using an addon and getting a Crystal Fragments alert is even comparable to cheating. I use addons, but I usually listen for my audio queue on my instant cast, as there's a bug right now anyways that doesn't allow you to see that you have a frag up, and won't highlight on the skill bar.

Seriously, don't post on something you know absolutely nothing about. These Sorc qq threads are just getting thirsty now.

It is hilarious that this type of thing is on the forums. It is even funnier that then other people say, 'Well look at all the SOrc nerf threads. The amount of threads means that it is undeniable proof that Sorc is OP!" People who do not have a clue what is going on post on these forums all the time.

There's actually 2 visual cues plus the audible cue. The aura around the hands, the ability illuminates, and you get the noise. They didn't mean for you to miss it. Others are just making it more obvious since their cues are lackluster.

    Um, guys. It's ok now.
As I said earlier, it was a mistake on my part here. Sorry. -_-

I thought the game sees the proc just as a chance and does not give any clues regarding the time when it actually procs. Now I know better.
And this was the only reason why I felt cheated, but now that I understand the mechanics I of course won't say that anymore.

I should have asked first... (or tested it properly).
So again now. I don't want to nerf anyone.

All make you glow purple! Im not trying to squint through all that, sorry.

I play zoomed all the way out, my vision isn't the best, and there are a million other things glowing and flashing. I have NEVER seen the action bar icon light up. I've tested it, and it most certainly is not lit up in the above picture. Whoever is saying that it does is wrong.

The audio cue is great for spamming frags, but a clear indicator is a fantastic thing for bursting after youve been cc'd, repositioned yourself on the battlefield, waited for wings to fade, or any number of reasons you had to hold on to your frag proc for longer than five seconds.
