Stamina vs magicka

shane.roberts25b14_ESO
Im wanting to do a Templar build, but I've run in to a roadblock: all templar skills are magicka, all melee weapon skills are stamina. So my question is, which should I spec in to for racials? Magicka (i.e. breton) or stamina (i.e. redguard), or should I do something like points in magicka, enchants in stamina, and racials in health/defense (i.e. Nord, imperial)? It's my first templar, so I'm not sure which would be most optimal for sustained dps (my other toons are magicka sorc, stamina NB, and aoe magicka dk)...

I can tell you're new, so allow me to help enlighten you a bit here:

All class skills start out using Magicka, but as they grow and are able to be morphed, you'll find that usually 1 per tree has an option to run off of Stamina and Weapon Stats.

That said, if you're looking to be a DPS Templar, your best bet would be to rock Stamina with a Two-Hander or Dual Wielding, using the Stamina Morph options of your class skills.

If you prefer Magicka, that can be done as well, although other classes might be able to do it better.

As for Races, best Magicka are Breton and Altmer, best Stamina are Redguard and Imperial, with Khajit and Wood Elf making a close second place.
Bobbity Boop, this game might become poop, but I'll still play because I'm just a pile of goop!

Im not new, just never played templar. The Elder Scrolls Online wiki says all templar skills, including morphs, are magicka, which is why I'm asking this question, but I appreciate your input ;)

There are very few skills in the Templar class trees that can morph into stamina versions. All of the heals will remain magicka. I know some of the abilities in the spear class tree morph into stamina versions that are good to use, but there are still very few options. When going stamina, you will mostly be relying on weapon abilities for everything.

Have a look at this build for stamina: http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/jabsmania-templar-stamina-dd-build-for-update-1-6/

As for you initial question, Imperial will be a great race all around. You will be able to run both magicka and stamina builds with it. It won't be the absolute best for magicka builds, but the health boost is so significant that you can move your attributes around to mimic other races which give max magicka. And if you want to ever run a stamina build, Imperial is the best for that.

    Check out http://esoacademy.com/class-skills/

It has the stamina morph of each class. Scroll down a little and select your options.

I play a Breton Templar. The one class in the game that can do everything really well. I also disagree with Khivas_Carrick. I frequently out DPS other classes as magicka based damage. I also like playing different play styles. So I switch to stamina builds, or healer, or tank builds quit a lot.

Remember just because you might choose a stamina focused build doesn't mean you should totally forget about magicka. Having a Breath of life on the bar has saved me and/or my group in some situations. Also, sun shield can be helpful and it's magicka based whose strength depends on you health pool. So, being a Breton with reduced magicka cost works well for me with stamina builds.

If your going stamina I would recommend 2 hander and get Repentance. But that's just my 2 cents.
