[DW] + [Magicka] top DPS?

I am not yet VR14 but can someone explain to me why DW in full magicka build isn't top DPS for some classes?

I think it should be. For any class even. Wearing full LA, all magicka attributes, enchants, racials, buffs and sets. Picking DW with only class spells with best damage to cast time ratios on your main bar, and picking DS 1st, 2nd skill and pure magicka scaling class abilities on your secondary bar.


DW (even with 0 skills invested) gives you about 20% more BASE DAMAGE than DS. Ofcourse taking into account magicka and morph scaling total net DPS gain should be around 8%-10% which is still huge. Neither the DS nor DW line have any passives that increase the damage of class abilities.

2 weapons also means 2 SET PIECES instead of 1.

Ofcourse you have to be in MELEE WEAVING light and meds for top DPS, and you have to switch to DS to refresh the DOTS and regen magicka when you fall too low with WEAVING heavies.

Maybe some classes have better instant damage abilities than the DS dots and never run out of magicka anyways so you never have to switch?


So what do you guys think? Can it work? If it can, what classes do you think would benefit the most from this setup?

    Nightblade mages and i hear templars can both benefit from dual wielding. The weapon's damage value goes straight to spell damage. Both classes can fill their bars with class skills. DK firemages probably stick with firestaff and sorcs tend to need force pulse. The DPS is top for the NB mage build but is not top class DPS. Go stamina for that.

    My NB mage can optimize cost to so low level it stays just-about sustainable on single target without pots nor Siphoning Attacks. AoE needs SA. Dual wielding works for NB also from range with some DPS sacrifice. I only have opened Twin Blade and Blunt passive in DW branch. My firestaff is collecting dust.

    Yea, this trick doesnt help for DKs. Tested it myself and it completely gimped my dps =(

    Inferno staff is way to go. Med attack weave + molten armaments = too OP

    My friend pointed this out to me about a week ago, and I have yet to test it for myself. Does anyone know why DW adds to Spell Damage? I mean lorewise this fits in with what it means to be a spellsword, so I guess it's a great complimentary thing for sorcs, but what is the game mechanic at work here? 20% sounds more like one of the major buffs, but if it's not does that mean you can still get Major sorcery? Very interesting possibilities.

    Because every Weapon gives Spelldmg..

    Weapondmg = Spelldmg ~ Armor = Spellres (without buffs and passives)

    Inferno staff is way to go. Med attack weave + molten armaments = too OP

    @xMovingTarget Entropy + Engulfing Flames + Molten Armaments + Fully Charged Heavy Attack = 22k Crit on a half health player in Cyrodiil.

    I know right? Thats insane! I always hear magnus laughing like a maniac when he oneshots someone with that in cyro.

    My personal record was 42k crit with fully charged =D In pve though
