Why Templar Toppling Charge isn't fixed.

Before I begin please understand this should in no way be taken to imply there are not MAJOR issues with this class. The ability Eclipse and its morphs are currently causing YOUR character to lose the ability to attack or use any abilities when it absorbs an enemy spell, which has yet to be addressed or even acknowledged by the devs after being reported by myself and others for at least a month. There are also numerous other issues being actively discussed in other threads I won't get into here.

The issue at hand however, is Toppling Charge.

I would like to put forward this has not been fixed because it is only a symptom of a much larger problem, which is a pathing and placement code introduced to the game which is causing de-syncing of characters with the world in situations of even nominal lag, and ZOS currently doesn't know exactly how to fix it.

I would even suggest this is the issue that is causing horses to stop constantly since 1.6, as this issue also correlates with load/lag.

To support this theory I present the following anecdotal evidence:
  • 2H charge abilities - Also experience the issue with the character stuck in animation.
  • Shield charge abilities - Also experience the issue.
  • WW pounce abilities - Also experience the issue.

With weapon-specific charge abilities where your character rushes in and gets stuck in the animation unable to attack, weapon swapping can break you out of it and allow you to continue playing with minimal interruption.

However, WW is completely borked in high lag situations, as when Pounce locks in the animation, the only way to break out of it is to drop WW form or relog, which means charging the massive ultimate for transform all over again, making Pounce (necessary to avoid PVP WW being completely helpless) more of a liability than a boon.

Then just make all charge abilities work like teleports and be done with pathing altogether. Does the NB teleport stike have the same problems?

Not in my experience. With Teleport Strike or Sorcerer Bolt Escape, the path seems to be calculated before the ability fires, and if it is unavailable the ability simply doesn't work.

There used to be an issue with Bolt Escape where you were still being charged magicka for a failed cast, or where the ability would get "locked" (similar to this issue but different) where subsequent casts would charge magicka and play the sound/visual but not teleport you until relog.

Not sure if either of those is fixed since I haven't played my Sorc in a while.

I totally agree, this has to be a pathing issue - it happens to my templar around 1/10 casts - if you look closely, it does seem that just before the endless running on the spot with the lance held forward (around 15 seconds, during which time no keyboard input makes any difference - though you can take potions to help prevent death; doesn't always stop you dying but may help), my character seems to stop momentarily during the charge as if tripping over an object that isn't always necessarily there.

Just an idea, why not have the character travel in an arc as opposed to a straight line? The reasoning behind this is that, I assume the problem started when collision detection was changed early on? If that is the case, the issue is the character is colliding with an object and stopping, moving the character in a slight arc (so they jump downwards onto the target slightly) would prevent common collisions but, wouldn't mean the Templar could perform ridiculous jumps.

That's interesting, because Invasion/Shielding Charge seem to work just fine 100% of the time.

That is odd, suggesting that the issue may be a little more complex. I know that there are quite a few who have this issue, judging by this thread and the several other threads about the same issue.

oddly, I have found taking a potion breaks the cycle of this bug, I am yet to find anything else that does - but if you get the same issue try taking a potion! (I have potions bound on f3 key)

Had issues with shield charges as well but not nearly as often.

Toppling charge been better since patch but still happens occasionally.
