The NB that could - Build

TheElementalPlatypus
Before anything - to all those crying for a nerf from this play style - nothing is wrong with NB atm, but the combos of skills we have work so precisely it's insane. this build is OP in duels, but 1vX still trying to

Ever since 1.6 came out I have been heavily testing all sorts of magic NB builds, and this one is my personal favorite.

Armor:

7/7 light
5 PC Magnus Gift
2 PC warlock
2 PC Torugs pact
2 PC cyrodiils light

For undaunted 2 PC:

4 PC martial
2 PC cyrodiils light
2 PC Torugs pact
2 PC undaunted
Random necklace

weapons: Double Resto
both Magnus gift
sharpened on both
Disease on both

BOTH BARS HAVE SIPHONING ATTACKS

Bar 1: Cripple Swallow Soul Cloak Healing Ward
ultimate - Soul Harvest

bar 2: Fear Mirage Mark Target Dark Shades (double shade morph)
ultimate - Soul tether

Now there are some things I do with it, which is a heavy counter to Stam builds.

Playstyle - 1v1

There are a few things which makes people think it is OP.
It has infinite resources and the buff combination is insane

Keep mirage/mark/shades up at all time
Shades drain Stam great and are free 1600 DPS
mirage on top of cloak means it will be hard to hit you
Mark adds damage simple

Fear ASAP - cripple into fear
Cripple a LOT - you can kite so many targets with the speed boost, don't waste it
healing ward when low and STRAIGHT Back to attack after, you NEED to keep pressure, and you attack to GAIN resources

YOU CAN BLOCK AT LEISURE BECAUSE STAM WILL ALMOST ALWAYS BE FULL

1vX - Outnumbered playstyle

ADD HARNESS MAGICKA ITS GREAT

Focus on the easiest enemy, kite enemies into your playground NOT theirs.
Keep resources high and play smart - sustain first - then burst

So, here I've been thinking that @Pancake-Tragedy probably had the best user name in TESO.

That competition just got another entrant.
    Snit AD Sorc
    Ratbag AD Warden Tank
    Goblins AD Stamblade

Magicka Nightblades in 7x Light Armor? My dual Resto NB in 5x Heavy armor loves to see them melt. Good effort nontheless!

I really want to try a magicka build after I steal enough money for resets. However, I can't do the squishy light in PVP, especially with the siege buff. Would 5 Heavy Magnus or two Heavy Torugs (head, body or leg) work with with this build?

Also, how are you distributing your attributes and CP?

The amount of spell cost reduction and spell penetration you sacrifice while switching to 5x heavy armor is nothing compared to the amount of survivability you receive from heavy armor.

I agree, if you want a Magicka NB that does everything you NEED 5 pieces of heavy armour. It's dps wont be awesome in the slightest. but its practically unkillable in PVE

Heavy sacrifices a lot for tankiness IMO, and with this build I still sit around 10k both resist all the time because of cloak. I mean you could use it but it wont have the sustain needed for how I created the playstyle - always on the attack, instead just run 2 heavy, I run 2 pc engine both heavy sometimes.

My champion points are mostly into magic damage, reduce cost, and a modge podge in the red area :)

I'd like to see you try, I have a buddy running 5 heavy NB, I would love to contact you and fight against you if you would like to work that out! I never said this build was not squishy, but you would be surprised at the amount of damage a healing ward spam can take.

ALSO I will be releasing videos soon of the tankiness/sustainability of this build if used right!

I've been playing something very similar since launch (slightly more healer/support based, but versatile based on the situation). As of 1.6 I've been switching back and forth between 5L/2h and 5h/2L in varying combinations of Resto + Destro, Resto + S&B, 2x Resto (Seducer is the main theme for everything). The best combination I've found seems to be 5l/2h w/ Resto + S&B. You lose the light attack weaving element, but gain so much defense via the shield & Absorb Magic. Heavy armor had been quite a letdown TBH...

Now, playstyle wise, if I could make it work I really prefer the idea of 2x Resto with 5 heavy/2 light but that Absorb and getting a few more blocks off per fight really seems to make the difference over that passive heavy armor mitigation. When you get down to it you can really spam cloak/fear/cripple so much harder with light armor while still having good defense with the shield. I'm to the point I may start experimenting with armor jewelry or a defensive set bonus (instead of magicka/spellpower related on) to try and get the best overall balance of defense and offense.

    Main: Breton Nightblade "Shadow Cleric" (Sustained Damage/offhealer) 5L/2H - Resto + S&B
    Alt: Argonian Dragonknight (Stam DoTs/Tank) 5H/2M - S&B + Bow
Alt: Nord Templar Berserker (Rawr) 5M/2H - Dual Wield + Two Hander
Alt: Altmer Sorceror (Pewpew) 7L - Destro + Resto

My goal with this was to allow LA to be tanky, and to have infinite sustain with spell power, and for me, it has worked tremendously!

I agree, with heavy you just dont have the spammyness of light armor. You have to play more defensive/prepared and its just not me.

Please keep posting because the game needs good NBs doing what they do and sharing their knowledge, so NBs can discuss amongst themselves instead of looking over the fence at sorcs.

Yeh I understand what you mean. Some magic NB's are just sorcs without the fun/burst and shields. But magic will ALWAYS have something stam doesnt. Which is why ZOS failed heavily at the system they have and why everyone runs light armor pre 1.6 and even a lot after 1.6

    Magic - class skils/unique/sustainable

Stamina - Burst/MAYBE 2 class skills/little self heals and sustain overall

Tried a modified version of this last night. I'm not a dueler or a 1vXer but it seems to be working well with group play. Unfortunately, too lazy to re-roll into a race meant for magic (Kizzy is a redguard).

I don't have all the gear yet (had to sub warlock and light of cyro for 2 stendarr and 2 Grace of Ancients enchanted with spell damage) but I can see some potential even on my Redguard. Also went with the 5 Heavy setup because habits. I think I will try just 2 heavy and 5 light because 10% block cost reduction does not = 2000+ spell pen. Things need to die sooner rather than later.

I will say that I do miss my sword and board for bouncing back frags at annoying sorcs. Now, i rely on harness magic. I'm also glad you left two swing slots open because teleport strike > fear is my bread and butter. Also liking the cripple, cloak and mirage. I can jump in and reasonably get out pretty well.

Stamina though. :( Sitting at less than 10000 takes getting used to.I tend to go with the Vr10 blue Health/Magic food but switched to Health/Stam. I may need to find that purple recipe.

Would love to see a vid of how you are using your set up.

It's also amazing how many lethal and venom arrows I notice coming my way now.

Fear not, my friend. I, too, am a Redguard and have been playing as a Magicka NB since shortly after beta. It has it's perks where stamina regen is concerned

I've been toying around with a slightly altered version of this (had been rolling with a Fire stick because Destructive Reach is just too much fun) and I am enjoying it so far. I, too, went for a 5h/2l set up last night but my regen was atrocious and the lack of penetration  left something to be desired.

Glad you like it! I am trying to get some good videos soon, but currently I am leveling my sorc for DC NA, will have a video on how I use it for 1vX/1v1 as I rarely group play. Sorc is holding me back because hey :P I want my bolt escaping shield spamming v14 DC sorc breton sooner rather than later xD

I'm not the expert but I personally went with all Health since I'm PVP focused. All armor has magic enchants. I don't put anything into stamina with this build. With the buff food health is between 28K and 30K (depending on the campaign buffs) Magic food gets my magic pool to around 20K with the 5H/2L setup. If I go with the stamina food magic is at around 17K and stam is around 13K.

And yeah, regen is an issue. I redid my CP and changed my mundus stone to Atronauch and it's just over 1100 magic regen. Stam is sitting at 900+. Health, well lets not talk about that.

I think as I get comfortable with the magic shields and absorbs I will put more attribute into magicka. But going for the even split kinda gimps all of your stats IMO.

Hopeully Mr. Platypus gets off that sorc crack soon. It's a dangerous, predictable and annoying drug.

I should've talked about stats indeed. As I meant to mention it needs more magic for more burst. My swallow hits for around 4k. My stats are 21k Health, 25k magic, 12k stamina (Dark Elf)

    Regen - 1200 -1250 magic
    400 health
    900 stam

ALSO this build was meant for pvp, not sure why a pve build would be under (PVP combat and skills......)
