Templar: Crescent Sweep (Ultimate)

I'm confused about how the Templar's ultimate skill "Crescent Sweep" is supposed to work:

I thought when activated it'll be using 75 points for each shot (like the sorcerer's "Energy Overload" skill does) - but as soon as I switch it on, it uses immediately ALL stored ultimate points... hopefully that's "just" a bug?

Its a single use AOE that leaves a DOT on the area of the ground you were standing on.

Agreed. Whoever came up with the design should be shot in the foot and only admitted to hospital when he manages to find 3 other people willing to maim themselves the same way in order to accompany him.

Ultimately, any method of entering an enemy keep without breaking down the door is considered an exploit. Thanks for checking!

Oh... thanks a lot for your reply.

Well, maybe I can find a more useful ultimate skill then

It is a strong ultimate for pve dps, very low cost so you can use it often. I much prefer it over the other ultimates available to a Templar. Although in difficult fights I use Remembrance to reset my health bar.

Crescent Sweep is the crappy morph. You want Empowering Sweep for the damage mitigation.

While the damage on Radial Sweep isn't bad, its range is far too short to make it an effective AoE skill. There are better Ultis to use if you want AoE damage (e.g. Nova).

It's a nice cheap ult you can have on your sword and shield bar and have a more powerful ultimate on your damage bar (or however you are set up).

For pve keep the crescent unless you're a tank. For PvP you probably want they other with 15% reduced damage taken + more for each target hit. Actually I think it's somewhat powerful ult for cost, and provide good utility that you can fire it off quick. Atm im experimenting with the damage morph in PvP - but so far I still prefer the mitigation morph for sure.

I actually use Flawless Dawnbreaker over Sweep for the passive weapon damage buff and the fact that it hits slightly harder, and for the big hard bosses I use nova on my off bar.
Bobbity Boop, this game might become poop, but I'll still play because I'm just a pile of goop!

Point for point, crescent sweep does more dmg per ultimate than flawless dawn breaker (weapon dmg is a plus) and just barely less than meteor. The plus to crescent sweep is its up more often.

Overload is the only ultimate that toggles. All other ultimates burn your ultimate pool the second you activate.

Hm, I wasn't aware of that (yes, I am a newbie!), thank you for that info!

Then I don't understand the use of having an ultimate pool of 1,000 points, if you anyway burn everything, and (for the mentioned skill) just 75 points would suffice...?

Basically, better ultimates cost more to cast, which limits the frequency with which you cast them. Sweep is a pretty small AoE and doesn't do a lot of damage, so it's pretty cheap, and you can cast it pretty often. But Templar's Nova does huge AoE damage, and has options to snare enemies and synergies that other players can activate dealing even further damage. Being able to cast that as frequently as Crescent Sweep would be a bit unbalanced.

You're not meant to treat ultimate like magicka, meaning each cast uses an amount. Rather, it's like an "oh ****" button, or you use it tactically to enhance your/your group's damage output, with the knowledge that once it's gone, it's gone, and you have to build it back again.

Think of it as a timer, and it makes more sense.
