@ZOS blockability of Sorc abilities intended or not?

hi i would like to get some information about the blockability of deadric curse and its morphs aswell as mages´ fury and morphs.

prior to 1.6 the advantage of these abilities as they do rather low dmg compared to its counterparts of other classes was the inability of them to be blocked (wich has been reenabled several times after that gimmick was bugged by a patch) after 1.6 both abilities are once again blockable
ifoh7t9.png
but never mentioned by ZOS to be bugged so far.

so as my IG-bug reports are vanishing to nowhere id like to know if this significant issue is going to be corrected or atleast is acknowladged by ZOS

I´m not sure i agree with a finisher being non blockable (it was kind of OP in 1.5 after they fixed it being reflected).

However with curse being blockable and COMPLETELY rendered useless by purge (the 4s halved duration on negative effects makes it just vanish without effect) i´ve removed this skill from my bar against good players. Atleast make it do half the dmg if purged. 100% counters for a skill are bad design imho.

Curse being blockable, aswell as Inevitable Detonation, is a farse, how can a curse be blockable? Its not like its coming at you, it surrounds your very being eventually exploding around you, its both stupid and unbalanced that everything sorcs/spellcasters have at their disposal (save for aoe) is completely blockable wich basicly makes the dmg useless.

You may think "oh but it will drain their stamina"....no it will not, ive withnessed players permblocking 5 other players emptying their mana/stamina on the target for a full 5 minutes before the fight ended or was interrupted. This...is utterly stupid.

Velocious Curse was made blockable in the notes, but they said they increased the damage by 25% to compensate.

Mages wrath is actually an "AoE" damage type and is thus blockable by 1.6. I think it also should get a significant damage boost, especially since it now costs 20% more from where it was in 1.6 due to the Expert Mage nerf.

I see this screenshot so often I wonder who Drolgonite is and what he thinks about it

That being said, I do think the screenshot does raise a point. I think that certain skills should not be blockable and velocious curse stands front and center.

Are DoTs blockable? I was under (the perhaps mistaken) impression that they were not. I hear from my NB friends that if Cripple is blocked, the skill does not damage. This is patently bad. I agree the initial damage from a block skill that does obvious impact damage (unstable flame, cripple, venom arrow and the like) should be reduced but the aftereffects should not be. I also believe that this design should be consistent so as to avoid confusion.

In an ESO Live episode, to the question as to why don't sorcs have a DoT it was countered that velocious curse is in fact their DoT; it just happens that all the damage is inflicted at one time. Fair enough, but:
    • If this is the intended theory, velocious curse fails to meet the norm of DoTs being low cost spells.
    • If this is the intended theory, velocious curse fails to meet the norm of DoTs being solid positive contributors in a DPS rotation.
    • If this is the intended theory, velocious curse fails to meet the norm of DoTs not being blockable (if this is in fact now the case).

The problem with the 25% damage increase to blockable trade is that the damage was already so low, the 25% increase is not a fair trade off. As is stands right now, even if an opponent does *not* block, this spell is nether good DPS nor cost efficient to cast. In essence the spell falls between two stools of direct damage and damage over time and fails at both as it lacks the DPS punch of direct damage spells and the efficiency of DoTs.

I think it is silly that a curse can be blocked. I read my fair share of fantasy epics and never did the hero or a victim raise their shield and mitigate a hex placed on them by an evil hag, witch, or wizard. I might buy an argument that a fraction of the damage can be mitigated to keep it consistent with the initial hit of other DoTs being blocked (and can be justified by some appeal to the victim's constitution withstanding said curse), but the fact that a perma-blocker can shake off this spell (and cripple) is both silly and unbalancing.

As for mage's wrath being blockable, if we play a game where executes and AoEs are blockable, then this skill probably should be as well. I do agree with Ezerath that because the skill is more expensive to cast, it should get a commensurate boost in its effect.

If the Mage's Wrath explosion is blockable its damage should be increased. I'm wondering if they made curse blockable because it can now stack. Though Purge, available to all, addresses that easily..
Disabling the grass may improve performance.

Good to see Sorcerer class has joined the rest of the classes with blockable skills.

This is a pretty entertaining thread. I think I'll subscribe.

well honestly i cant observe the announced 20% increasement of the curse dmg.

prior to the patch i hit for around 560 with a non crit curse and for around 630 with an uncritical frag, now in 1.6 the tooltips in cyrodiil are stating 6149 for the velocious curse and 7132 for crystal frags.
wich means for my char the increasement for both was around factor 11 (precisly frags: 7132/629=11.30 and curse 6149/563=10.92) s o if curse dmg would have been increased during the 1.5->1.6 transition the factor should be significantly higher for curse to reflect the dmg increasement even if you include error margins the incresementfactor will not reflect a 20% dmg increase or am i mistaken here?
