Weapons for full-light casters

Hi everyone

I wanted to discuss the weapon choices for light armor magicka based classes. Not talking about armor here – it is all pretty obvious and logical. However, the choices that we have for weapons – I think there is some space for improvement here.

When you are trying to make your magicka based PC efficient weapon-wise you normally end up with using staff (resto or destro) and/or sword+shield. Or axe+shield or whatever else + shield. With sword+shield you get 2 great bonuses – set bonus from 2 weapon items and armor enchantment from shield.

Those bonuses in reality limit your choice! They don’t allow you to choose anything else except for sword+shield – you can’t be efficient with duals (no armor enchantment) or any 2-hander (no set bonus, no armor ench).

That is especially evident in Cyrodill. You would only see two efficient set-ups there – stamina based 2hand+bow for single target or magicka based full light + sword’n’board for aoe.

My concern is that the fact that casters are limited to sword’n’board is not good for variable game experience and it does not look good in providing the “reality” in-game feeling. Would you except casters to use shield in any fantasy set up? I would suppose no.

I am playing healer/dps Templar and I use resto staff and sword+shield. I’d really love to have an option to use e.g. 2-handed sword instead of shield option, but I’d lose set bonus and shield enchantment which would really cut my efficiency severely.

Maybe ZOS could think about adding something for 2-handed weapons in order to allow people to use it more often? I would think about two options:
• Adding a possibility to apply 2 enchantments to a 2-handed weapon (weapon and armor enchantment)
• Introducing new sets – only for 2-handed weapons – that would give some bonuses even for 1 2-handed weapon. Bonuses should be equal to what you can get from having 2 weapons in your hands or a weapon+shield.

What do you think about it? Am I wrong somewhere?

    Yeah, it would be nice if two handed weapons counted as two as far as set pieces are concerned.

    Yes they DO NOT want people in light to be able to tank - they just want us to LOOK LIKE we do!
