Weapon swap in 1.6 is broken. They finally fixed it on live, but break it again in new patch.. lol

ZOS please listen.

Players complained and even quit because of the unresponsive and clunky weapon swap that you spent 8+ months to fix.
In 1.5 it feels quite responsive and good (finally!).


But now in 1.6 you add a cooldown and break the whole thing and push it back to the stoneage.

Of course I'm not suprised that you managed to break it yet again, but I ask: Why??

This should get fixed BEFORE you send the patch live, because it ruins the overall gameplay A LOT.
And I know there are many others who agree.

    This is an intended change to test out having a small cooldown on weapon swapping. AFAIK there are plans to have a "sensitivity" slider in the UI for you to modify this cooldown (similar to dodge roll, and you would just be able to get rid of it too). They just wanted to see how something like that would work.

    Why would you even *want* to have a cooldown on weapon swap? What person in the world would *not* get rid of it if there was a "sensitivity" slider? Strange ideas these people have at times....

    Because of lag. Someone hits weapon swap it doesn't "work" fast enough for them (actually stuck in transit), they then hit weapon swap again, when they finally register, they both work and the effect is NO WEAPON SWAP.

    Weapon swap should work like: if I push the weapon swap key followed immediately by an ability key, it should fire that ability instantly, just as if there were actually 12 distinct keybinds instead of only 6.. regardless of animation, regardless of the time it takes for the icons to to flip over. Instant. Period.
    Really we do it without like, the musical instruments. This is the only musical: the mouth. And hopefully the brain attached to the mouth. Right? The brain, more important than the mouth, is the brain. The brain is much more important.

    I disagree with the OP, because of lag its often necessary to press the swap key several times until it registers in the game and at that time it is a toss of the die which bar you end up with.

    This problem is fixed on the pts where it always switches to the next bar and prevent you from switching back because of the delay in repeating switches.

    It is a most excellent solution to the problem.

    Is there an official statement about this ? Because I'm really worried if weapon swapping went back to its old clunkyness. A slider would make everyone happy I think.

    They also talked about having 2 different keybinds for each bar, is it implemented already ? (I don't have PTS so can't test myself)

    My take on the change..

    I think it was added to see if they could mitigate macro spammers. Seeing as if you have a recursive macro pushing the ability multiple times, it makes weapon swap unreliable, due to the CD.

    Characters: All of them, both Stamina and Magicka.

    Instead of actually fixing the issue we get this?

    If you want a *real* fix then weapon swapping should be coded as an actual ability. Currently the command isn't an ability but something that acts independently from abilities which causes most of the problems.

    The real issue is people issue a weapon swap command and then the ability they want to use sometimes the weapon swap doesn't go through, yet the ability command does and they use the wrong ability. This means they aren't treated the same and *that* is what they to do to fix this as best as is possible.

    I only PvP and it is exactly in Cyrodiil that weapon swap almost never worked because of game lag. On the pts you ALWAYs switch successfully and keep on the new bar.

    Exactly, I had no problem when doing this on the PTS last night. Swapped bar and was able to immediately cast a spell. I tried this back and forth for almost a minute an saw no cool down at all.

    Addin cooldown to weapon swap just negate all the benefits from having second bar what so ever.
    They didnt fixed a crap on Live. Weapon swap are still the pain.

    If this keep going where it goes right now, im so done with this game.

    No, in fact the CD would have no adverse effect on a macro at all, because the macro would simply be edited to account for it.

    The cooldown on weapon swap only punishes the players using their own fingers!

    Full support from PvE Player as well.

    What is the point of introducing a cooldown if you can bind a key for each skill bar? The exact purpose of those keybinds is to allow to spam weapon swap during lag being sure you will end up on the correct one.

    I prefer how weapon swap is in 1.5 both for PvP and PvE, even testing from EU.

    But for the keybinds specific for bar 1 & 2 (that I don't like), for a single keybind there is the suggested option about a sensitivity slider.
    Another option for the single keybind could be toggle on/off the traditional weapon swap in the control/UI settings.
    Doing so would please everyone.

    It seems like not only switching between bars, but also every skill/action you use /perform locks the weapon swap.While testing on the pts even weapon attacks (left click) made that little lock appear.
    On the live servers weaponswap is responsive because it cuts through every action/animation(because it has a higher priority). This no longer seems to be the case on pts.
    This issue might be caused by eu player lateny to some degree, but it wasn't nearly as bad when playing on the pts pre 1.6.

    However on live I can pull a rotation with 2 weapon swaps per 10 seconds for 10+ min without missing a single swap which is currently almost impossible on pts due to the cooldown.

    Rarely happens to me and the only times it does, is related to serverlags, when the game thinks you're still in a state where you can't swap(stun etc.) but it's not actually the case.
    However that's not important, even if weaponswap was bad on live (i think its fine, especially compared to the months after release) , it's definitely worse on pts.

    Agreed.

    But sadly ZOS seems to be ripping a working formula completely apart on this one.

    ZOS, if you screw over the core gameplay this much, players will stop enjoying the game and rather play something else that feels less clunky.

    New players (who needs a good first impression on gameplay) will not like the clunky weapon swap you are introducing with 1.6.

    I personally think that there couldn't be a worse timing to screwing this over than now, when you are trying to give a good first impression and get new players to like the game with the free to play launch.

    I think they did a great job. Now when you press weapon swap, it doesn't swap 3 times and screw you up. The only people I see having an issue with this are the pvp freaks who try to shield stack off a second bar and animation cancel it. To them I say haha deal with it.

    bar works much better on 1.6 then 1.5 still push the button in 1.5 and nothing happens. Its instant on 1.6.

    In my opinion weapon swapping has never been fixed. It is still as clunky and unresponsive and unreliable on the live servers as it has ever been. It bugs out constantly with 'you cannot swap weapons now' without saying WHY.

    And since that goes for the entire UI and not only for weapon swapping, the developers should have ditched the entire UI long ago and remade it from scratch instead of investing time and effort into something so horribly broken.

    My bar swap is worse than its ever been. Weapon swap has been broken from day 1 and still is. It is one of the biggest turn offs and complaints of ESO.

    I think weapon swap should be client side & CC should not effect it. Id much much rather see a mistake in the what weapon my enemy is holding than never being sure what weapon i have until i visually check my bar.
