I'm Looking for Tips on Becoming Emperor

I've been playing since beta and my attention turns off and on to PvP. One thing that has always been elusive is becoming Emperor. If anyone has any good tips on gaining points please let me know. I'm on the NA server. I have alts in each of the three campaigns and representing all of the classes. I've never had any issues getting into the top 10; but it always feels like there is one or two super human (mer) who can stay ahead with points exceptionally higher than the others. I've read posts from players stating they've gotten it multiple times. Best class? Best build? Who has good experience with what? Thanks for any and all feedback.

The best build is a good team to stand with you. There have been very few emperors who have became emperor who didn't have a good group to stand with, and fewer still that have been good emperors without a good group.

Also, the less populated campaigns would be better than the most. Learn how AP is gained and do what gets you the most (for combat that might mean using a lot of aoe to be the most affective to large amounts of players). But it also means catching every defense tick you can, be at many offenses to get the offensive ticks. And of course play a lot. Good luck.

I've been Emperor 5 or 6 times now.

First you need to pick a campaign that has high Emperor turnover (if there is an existing emperor reigning and they are rarely unthroned it will be unlikely that you will be able to outpace their AP gain if they decide to stay emperor after a reset. Next, depending on the duration of that campaign you need to be prepared to not have a life for the first few days of the campaign. There will be others just as dedicated as you who will keep pace of you no matter how good you are and it turns into a battle of wills at that point between you and them. Even if you get the lead, they will keep trying to get the jump on you so you must put a large enough difference between you and number 2 that they stop trying. Conversely if you are number 2 you have to get the #1 guy to quit or at least pass him before the emperor flips to your side.

Now for some of the less obvious pointers.

You have to have a build that has a high chance to kill others.

You shouldn't group with people as the math doesn't work out for the #1 AP gainer (you) to split AP with another player who is not #1. You pretty much always get less AP in a group unless you're only able to fight groups of people where you are ineffective.

Have *every* quest completed to turn in at the start of the campaign (got my first emperor using this trick)

Your targets should prioritize people who do not die often, and then the weakest to the strongest.

Soul Assault is your friend (used to be power overload until they nerfed it). During downtime or while searching for targets to kill use cheap tricks to build ult (like grand healing spam on NPCs and groups of players)

Repair doors before walls, but only repair walls if there is no other fighting on the map to be had.

Try not to fight people spamming damage shields and pick targets who don't use them as much if you have the opportunity. Damage towards a players damage shield doesn't count towards the AP you gain when they die, but health does.

I find I'm able to keep pace of pretty much anyone with my Sorc 1vX build but I've seen Sorc AoE and DK 1vX perform similar.

Take a week off from work, follow Ezareth's tips, and blow your brains out on Haderus. Really not that hard if you have a week to do it.

Also helps not to sleep 2-3 days out of the week, so you can run scout quests all fracking night long for the small gain it gets you. And maybe gank the occasional aussie for 800 AP. That's how I got it on the nonvet.

This is one of those realities that is discouraging; the way they have it setup a student on break or after finals can go gang-busters while those of us with families/jobs are left feeling short changed.

On a semi-related note; are there any mercenary guilds available for PvP?

I have had it multiple times now. Without a half decent guild behind you to help push for emp you can't get it and you have to know where the AP is and always move around the map. All it takes is one good D tick and anyone can get passed on the leaderboard.

There was mention a while back, God knows where now, that they were looking into changing the emperor passives into passives unlocked at various alliance ranks (or after AP in another view).

However, it's the nature of life that those who have the opportunity to take 3 days off and sleep for 3 hours in that time will get emperor. It's what makes a game competitive otherwise it'd be a merry-go-round of emperors.

I'd love to become emperor myself, but when playing with and against those in the PvP guild who are students or unemployed I know I'll never win. Instead I enjoy it for the wins, underdog wins, funny moments and overwhelming defeats.

When I recently had it on haderus I didn't play an extreme amount the entire week. The only time I played an extended duration of + 6 hours was once I got crowned and at that point I decided to stay awake until dethrone.

If you follow the Draw Ataq way of obtaining AP you can't be stopped. Hail Draw for teaching me his glorious ways.

Step 1: make tons of AP

Step 2: take the AP you made and make sure tomorrow you double that

Step 3: don't suck as Emp or you'll never hear the end of it

I would go to some populated campaign. Going for Emp on low populated campaigns is pretty boring. Thornblade is the best campaign imo as all factions crown emps there.

Find out which group can help you going for Emperor and be very nice to them. You need people to take the Emperor keeps for you. The more groups you have supporting you, the higher is the probability to get it.

Get Codex Addon and track your AP/H gains. Try out different stuff and decide which tactic gets you the highest AP gains.
You should get around 30 AP/H over longer periods.

Whatever you do, don't play a medium armor + bow build. You would be one of the worst Emperors the world had seen.

And definitely never expect to do it alone. You need a solid AVA guild, preferably with some fools (eeerr.. I mean helpful people) who are willing to sacrifice THEIR AP gains to watch keeps after you get emp and prevent your whole inner ring from collapsing without you knowing you have lost the keeps. Then there comes the benefits of having lots of non-guildie friends who can call THEIR non-guildie friends to help defend when the opposing faction pulls a 100 person zerg from Thornlag to throne their factions choice for emp.

Most first timers go for it on buff servers to "farm" emp and without a guild on your side you won't get emp. However on Thornblade you can get it by simply being in first.

If you don't know Draq Ataq or Fengrush then you don't know the original AP farmers.

Yarp. Got to #8 on the DC leaderboard first couple days of the new campaign (Thorn) since I took a few days off work and literally played for like 10 hours each day. I was still like 40k AP back from the top.

And like 500k back from the top spot in EP lol.

I just got Emp for the first time ever like 2 days ago, sadly I lost it, but there was no way I could maintain the lifestyle it took for me to get there ( 2 days of constant playing , and 4 hours of sleep) real life called and I had to answer.

I did it on a buff campaign , so I can't speak for thorn, but I reccomend just going as hard as possible at the start of the campaign, try to defend everything over taking stuff, D ticks can be big sometimes.

Also repairing is HUGE all that little AP adds up.

Hats off to those who can play constantly....I found out I'm not cut out for that... My Emp push at the end was very tough, maybe a 4 hour fight at chal and while we we're fighting there they took brk so when we finally took chal we had to goto brk and do it all over again.... After that hard core 48 hour stretch all I wanted was for it to be over.... It was epic ... I really felt sick at the end.

As a final note, try to be cool with everyone on your server. I think the best part of the whole experience was seeing my alliance come together to crown me. They really wanted it for me, and that was something really cool that I appreciated ... That and 4k magica!
