A guard killing you does not get rid of bounty if you have no gold

I could be wrong but I do believe that my Bounty went down about 2k of the 60k in 6 hours.

Well... crap. That's about the rate that my level 13 burned off her Bounty.

Yahh thats about at the same ratio I was doing. Maybe there should be an option with the fences or someone in the den, like a quest that would increase your rate at which your bounty drops. Or perhaps a quest you'd get from a guard? "help " some guards with bandits or something.

Either way, I always think of a few friends that are going to be in ZOS target market for this game on consoles, and while obviously its not proven this is everyone I know that they would simply just stop playing the game rather than trying to figure out the mechanics.

I can't test this without nuking a character... I suspect it's really hard to screw yourself over, without knowing what you're doing... but, someone should probably roll up a fresh character, through the tutorial, and "play like an idiot."

Yah i think its going to happen, I always will remember, thought he could go all GTA V in Skyrim and was slaughtering everyone, then broke a controller because he couldn't do a quest to get a particular item lol.

They seem to be wanting to attract part of the same causal crowd that purchased Skyrim, I won't have to much of an issue if they keep it the way it is. I have multiple characters, and a decent amount of gold to not have to worry about it but theres a difference between forum members and the other 90% of players.

It's definitely working as intended, but I agree that having no gold and having the bank locked down would be an issue if you want to get rid of your bounty.

In some games, you can do "Community Service" quests if you have no gold to pay off your bounty, and each one completed knocks a bit off the total. These could also be available for Upstanding players to earn some gold by helping the guards. A criminal would need to be below the Fugitive/Kill on Sight level to be given one of these.

Maybe the Outlaws Refuge could also have a loan shark, whereby you could pawn off any of your gear to be loaned some money towards your bounty. It wouldn't be removed from your inventory for exploitation-of-storage-space reasons, but it would become unusable until you pay off your loan.

I absolutely love those ideas :)

But if I was a PvE'er... I'd be downright pissed that there are only two mechanics to coming clean with the law in a video game.

Being "downright pissed" is a disproportionate response.

The only real issue with the guards is when you cannot pay the bounty. At that point, things escalate quite significantly and frequently end in death. There is not a submissive option in the case where money is an issue and there should be. Fleeing is always "successful" (either way it resolves they will stop chasing you for a while) but the hit to the armor and the additional bounty should be able to be avoided somehow.
All you folks out there saying that people shouldn't break the law if they don't want the consequences, sadly its not as simple as that. The game has been designed now so that the Legerdemain skill line is something that I as a PvP'er want for that 1 passive, in order to get it I have to break the law.

You want the passive and so you are willing to build that skill line. Most people will want it so that they can more effectively gank others in Cyrodiil. If you want to be the best at that, you will need to do the time. That is one of the decisions you get to make.
What I've noticed is that the Justice system rewards smart play very richly, and punishes quick massacre play severely.

This is very true. I have spent most of my Justice testing time alternating between an upstanding, but broke, citizen and a homicidal maniac with sociopathic tendencies, but broke. This is mostly to see what the game can do, and is not how I would normally play. Guard placement and patrol patterns, which banks are guarded poorly, locations of the refuges in each city, all become very important.

In my mind, if you want to go the homicidal maniac route, you will want to have no gold and be wearing junk.

The game favors the casual "Walmart shoplifter" over the true sociopaths, and I expect that this will be where most of the criminal players will reside.

lordrichter, the downright pissed part of it would come when said pve'er attempts to get to his scheduled event for the night and finds that the bounty placed on him the night before was still there. The guard repeatedly killing him due to a lack of funds or the ability to get those funds.

I am not here to argue with anyone, your perspective is valid. I'm simply a pvp'er doing a bit of testing on a new system. I truly don't expect to many people to go out and murder 20 citizens in 20 minutes like I did. It was a test and feedback from that test.

12 hours later and this still cracks me up. I want you to know, the schadenfreude is good for my soul. :D

"help" guards with bandits and other enemies?

Well Fable 2 did it, and it was actually a neat way to pay off bounties in my opinion.

HaHa! yeah I wasn't picking pockets, I was actually trying to go far into the hole to see the ramifications. Thus it was murder and more murder. I wasn't caught until I turned myself into the local guards.
