Don't heal fugitives being administered justice by guards.

I made that mistake tonight. After two quick uses of Healing Springs on another player fighting a guard in Belkarth and with no prior criminal history, I immediately became a fugitive that the guards wanted to kill on sight. And the guards do not waste any time either. They will throw down roots and such to slow or ensnare you and then they deliver a massive amount of damage. ZOS was not kidding when they said we would not want to fight the guards. It is a very quick death sentence.

I feel this will bring loads of accidental pain. Well, I guess it's one way to combat unwanted ability spam in towns.

Actually the guards kill you even if you just throw a heal on them as apparently it is considered an attack. I was throwing out some heals to see the numbers I got on crits and one flew off to a guard passing by I had not even targeted and he came over to kill me. Nice one :P

This was someting I was wondering about. Looks like aiding and abetting a criminal earns you a death sentence.

Now the question is, what about accidental aid. If I fire off restoring aura, and a fugitive crosses my field of effect, am I dead meat? And what about the auto passive boost to ally they introduced?

Well that is what I am saying happened to me. I was a ways off from any of the NPCs and other players specifically to do my own thing and avoid anyone getting an aura, but when one was just walking by behind me ( that I did not initially see...) she got the aura heal and came over and killed me. I suspect if you hit an NPC with your heals or a fugitive it was pursuing, whether on purpose or not... seems all bets are off.

Wow, that's actually worse. Good job finding that out. I know the first thing 1.6.1 is going to need to address for the justice system.

The guards are very tough. I had to pop cloak just to escape, even all my medium armor sprint and roll dodge passives could not save me.

I foresee many deaths over the coming months to these town guards.

    wish we could kill them:(

Have anyone tested this in dungeons? Can I still do pledges with my friends if they're criminals and I don't want to break the law? (from healer's perspective.)

If a guard doesn't witness the act, you should be able to heal your criminal friends while running pledges. As long as they haven't suddenly placed guards in dungeons, you should be fine.

I hope they leave it in. As Guards dont need heals youll just have to make sure youre not wildly throwing heals and attacks in an area where guards and citizens frequent.

I was not "wildly throwing heals and attacks in an area where guards and citizens frequent" -- As I expressed above, in my own case I was off in an area well away from other people deliberately to not be interfearing; NPCs do path however and so such a situation is not always avoided. Not a big deal but pretty silly mechanic if you ask me. I can see it mattering if I am healing a fugitive but not when an NPC of its own volition wanders into a heal aura. Overdone.

I casted restoring aura on a guy when inside the bank. He went outside of the bank and attacked a guard before the buff went away. The guards inside the bank attacked me.

I can see it in the patch notes already...
    • Guards will no longer be driven into a homicidal rage by random acts of kindness involving healing magic.
    • Known Issue: Guards still consider resurrecting fallen players as some kind of foul necromantic ritual, and will still kill necromancers on sight.

City Guards are the new Trial bosses. I haven't seen one killed yet, even with a dozen players on a single Guard, it's awesome.

That would be because they can't be killed.

Interesting finds. I can see a lot less heal and other skill spamming in populated areas. Also see a lot of trollers if you accidentally heal someone as someone already was victim of.

Okay, got on and tested for myself. Illuminate's auto passive seemed to have no effect on my bounty, even near someone fighting a guard. Restoring Aura, Breath of Life, and Grand Healing failed to register with NPCs. In fact your heals can't even effect NPCs with a white aura, and the guards don't react when you heal merchant/quest NPCs.

I tried to see about using restoring aura on a player actively killing NPCs, but since no guard was near, it didn't register a crime with a bounty.

I would so NOT recommend joining in when someone's under attack. One of my death recaps totaled 29864 dmg taken. It did not end well. Makes me want to play nothing but a sorc, bolt escaping away from these brick trucks.

I was able to bolt away from the guards a few times. They chase farther than other NPC's, but do eventually stop.
