Something PC users thinking of porting to Console should consider

I know some of you are thinking of moving to console from PC after release, before you decide to do so though, I want you to be informed so you can make the best decision for you.

1. Graphics The PS4 has the GPU equivalent of an HD 7850 +10%, its not quite a 7870. The Xbox One in GPU horsepower is slightly less then the PS4.

What this means is your not going to have the frame rate and the eye candy you will have on PC. Probably no Anti-Aliasing, Ambient Occulision, Bloom. HDR, etc...the hardware specs on those consoles won't handle those options.

Writing "Close to the Metal" only goes so far. Look at AMD Mantle, I have read most of the whitepapers on Mantle, thats as close to the AMD hardware metal you can get, actually its probably lower level then the consoles, and it only offers GPU improvements on games the GPU in question is already powerful enough to run on max settings or close, Mantle just removes the CPU bottle neck so the GPU can fully stretch its legs.

Neither of those consoles GPU's are powerful enough to run this game at 60 FPS at 1080p resolution. So you can expect removed options, lower resolution textures, and probably more frame rate variances.

2. PVP PVP in this game is VERY CPU Bound. This means you need lots of CPU juice. PVP may be one of the situations where Mantle may not do much for ESO due to how the CPU is used and polled in ESO during PVP.

the point is the CPU in both consoles are very weak. This means the devs had to make compromises in other areas in order to get the console versions working. Take Skyrim, yes it ran well on Xbox 360, but in terms of eye candy i thought it looked very jaggy and much less quality then the PC version. Its probably fair to expect something similar.

3. Updates - All updates to games on PSN or Xbox Live must go through Microsoft and Sony's certification process which costs money and takes time. So updates PC users get, could be delayed days, even weeks, before you get them on console. ZOS can release PC updates whenever they want, and it costs them nothing, so PC users will probably get bug fixes firsts since their is no restrictions on when they can release them.

4. Add-Ons - Lastly, Add-ons. you will not have access to these on console. All that useful information such as FTC, Combat Cloud, Cyrohud, CLS, even Harven's extended tools, you won't be able to get them on console. IMO many of these addons add must have functionality to the UI, so before making the jump, make sure you cna live with not having access to them. As i think folks would have a better chance getting a glass of ice water in Hades, then Sony or MS allowing user created code mod addons being used on their consoles.

Conclusion

Folks can chime in and add anything i may have missed. the point of this post is to make sure YOU make the best decision for YOU. As long as you have all the facts and can weigh all the pros and cons, you can make the choice you feel bests suits you.

Anyways, best of luck and cheers to a bright gaming future!

"Here in his shrine, that they have forgotten. Here do we toil, that we might remember. By night we reclaim, what by day was stolen. Far from ourselves, he grows ever near to us. Our eyes once were blinded, now through him do we see. Our hands once were idle, now through them does he speak. And when the world shall listen, and when the world shall see, and when the world remembers, that world will cease to be. - Miraak

While I enjoy my PS4, my PC easily beats it in specs in all fields. I will be staying on PC for sure.

it will run better on console even tho they are weaker why? because they are closed systems and can optimize from the gameplay they showed it seems to run 1080p@high prob 30 fps.

add ons 2bh I remember the beta forums most say they make bad players average, don't see the point in them myself been playing MMORPG's and highend raiding in one without addons.

    spot on about updates tho.

The last one is actually appealing. Without number crunching add ons, players will need to estimate their damage so skill will be more important than min/max stat crunching macros.

As far as the graphics, since the games will all be optimized for the same hardware, they should look pretty decent. The new console have pretty good specs.

I'm now too used to the PC layout/feel to switch to console. Besides, all I use my gaming PC for is MMOs and RTSs. Don't want the poor computer to feel unwanted :disagree:
I'm a man of few words. Any questions?

Someone will come out with a way to hack or mod addons for the console. They always do.
