few tips for newbie

Kliedesys
Kliedesys
hey guys, im about to sink into this game so figured a few tips and advises from veterans and pros wont hurt if any1 care to share :p decided to play DK cuz for last 10 years been playing tank classes out there. so was wondering if ppl could share their opinions on what race should i choose for DK, i know that racial skills dont make a huge difference but every lil counts right? gonna no with tank/dps build so im currently considering between dunmer and redguard/orc/nord. got no idea if it better to take dunmer for dps built of am i better off taking one of other races for bit better tanking. other thing is the attributes, how should i distrubute them more or less, i know it can be reset later on but that doesnt mean i should throw them left and right from the start :p and last but not least some general tips for a newbie would be appreciated, also what skills and gear should i focus on at early stages to be as efficient as possible. thinks that all for now and thanx in advance to ppl who took some time to read this and share a few bits and pieces. cheers

    Welcome to ESO. :)

Think about your secondary weapon when you choose your race. For magicka (fire staff ftw), Dunmer. For stamina, Redguard. Imperial is also a great choice, but since you didn't mention it, I'm guessing you have the standard edition?

All attribute points into health. Use glyphs to increase other attributes.

General advice, hmm. Wear all three types of armor to level them up, you need heavy for tanking and light/medium to fully switch to a DPS role, you'll also probably be wearing 5 pieces heavy/2 something else even when you're tanking. So it's best to have access to all options in case you need them.
Take up crafting, it's immensely useful. Start researching traits right away.
Learn to roll dodge, block and interrupt. Combat in ESO requires good mobility, even as a tank you can't just stand in one place and take the hits.
Go to Cyrodiil at level 10 even if you're not interested in PvP, completing the tutorial gives you free skill points.
Invest a point in Persuasion and Intimidation, they're worth it.
You can join five player guilds, make sure at least one of them is a trading guild.

    And well, have fun!

Great post from Rosveen there. I really enjoy the game at the moment and have done since launch. One of the reasons i enjoy it so much is the quests are actually well written and interesting; my advice would be to play with the in game sound on and customise your character with the choices you make

Look at crafted sets, Allessia's Bulwark, Willow's path and Hist Bark are all good for a DK Tank (depending on playstyle) but there are other good ones
    Set Bonuses And Locations

If you are going for a magic based DK Tank it wouldn't hurt to have a piece of light armour or two and invest in the passives, that way you get more magicka and magicka regen. Likewise a couple of pieces of medium armour for a stamina based DK.

If you are going to be a tank, the one hand and shield weapon line is a good idea, it has passives that increase your blocking, and a shield adds armour value too.

All of the above and then, make sure that when you get weapon swapping at level 15, you are continually throwing skills into that bar to level. I found that my main slots tend to level max fast, but I don't like to change the skills often in PVE. I put the skills I will use later on the second bar, swap to that bar before I turn in the quest, and the XP will go into those skills so they advance. You will get the main ones up just by exploring and killing things. This will allow you to max the primary skills and get experience using whatever combo you like best, while still allowing you to level other skills that you may want later.

And if it helps, @Morshire in game. Send me a mail and I will drop you your first set of armor to help you kick off your experience. Welcome to ESO and hope you have as much fun as the rest of us.

Also important, choose your alliance carefully, it matters for grouping and for PVP. Don't want to make a bunch of friends that you can't run with because you are in the wrong alliance. (Not so much a tanking tip, but still useful.)

Don't be afraid to explore either. Staying on the roads may be safer, but where is the fun in that? You will find crafting mats out there, plus some surprises. Remember to deconstruct everything you find and will not use (or research the traits) to help level your crafting faster. Tanks are great play, but you want to be making new gear on your off time, not knitting a sweater. :o
Follow me if I advance, Kill me if I retreat, Avenge me if I die.

When this immediate evil power has been defeated, we shall not yet have won the long battle with the elemental barbarities. Another evil, it may be an invisible adversary, will attempt, again, and yet again, to destroy our frail civilization. Is it true, I wonder, that the only way to escape a war is to be in it?

If I die, you are forgiven, If I live, I will kill you.

All traits. Of course, it will take time. Have you read about crafted item sets? Each requires a specific number of traits researched for the item you want to make (between 2 and 9). Some of these sets have excellent bonuses, so most people wear at least one, mixed with dropped gear. Shoot for 6 traits on every item, the best sets usually need 6 or less.

Other benefits: higher chance of improving items with tempers (which are quite costly, so save those purples and golds) and hirelings (bringing you materials and tempers every day).

That's for armor/weapon crafting. I think benefits of alchemy, enchanting and provisioning are obvious: crafted items are better than drops. :)

You will not have enough skill points at first to level all crafts, so I recommend focusing on your main armor (blacksmithing for heavy, clothing for light or medium) and provisioning, because it's easy and frankly, looted food is terrible. You always want a food buff active when doing group content or difficult solo quests.

How to do it? Simply deconstruct everything you find and don't need (unless it's a set item, which you may want to sell). Doesn't work for alchemy and provisioning, where you need to actually create items.

Yea, thought after all the hours on skyrim ill be ok with this game, but it differs quite a lot. Played for an hour yesterday managed to get to lvl 5 not a single skill spent yet, cuz i wasnt sure if every skill on smithing is worth it. The battle system amazed me, like u said theres no standing around even if ur a tank and im loving it. Been putting all attributes to health as i was instructed :p should have more time for playing in next 2 days ill annoy u awesome ppl if i have any more questions ;)

You'll get used to it. :) As for skills, get the first one in all three class lines and your chosen weapon, and keep them on your bar. The point is to level these lines up at roughly the same pace. They get a nice exp boost if they're on the hotbar when you turn in a quest. The fifth skill could be anything: secondary weapon you want to train from the start, another class skill, situationally Silver Bolts (Fighters Guild skill, pretty useful).

how does skill morph works? obviously improves skill and so on, but is it possible to change morph later on or ur stuck with chosen one for good? and if so is it hard/expensive to change it? @Rosveen u mentioned joining player trade guild, i suppose i need to be invited to one to join it right?

You can respec all your points or just your morph options at the cost of 50g/point, although this is an all or nothing deal. As in if you have 30 points worth of morphs and you want to respec just one, you have to spend 1500g to do it and all of your morph choices across all skill trees will be reset and the points refunded to you. You can also respec Attributes the same way, 50g per, all or nothing.

Yes. You can almost always see them advertising in zone chat. there's also a guild subforum here. If you're on the EU server, I'd be happy to invite you to ours - Imperial Trading Company (forgive the shameless plug :D).

Well you can craft a load of iron daggers, and send them to an alt to deconstruct (more xp for deconstructing than constructing, so let the lower alt deconstruct)

And if you plan on doing an alt ever, then the mats won't go to waste, because you'll craft gear for them.

so im lvl 42 now all seemed fine until few days ago met a templar in a dungeon and he literally humiliated me in dps, aoe dps, survivability and healing (no surprise in this one tho) so kinda cried like a lil girl all nite until i decided to lie to myself saying hes prolly a pro player lvling his 8th char and im just a newbie whos gonna be as good as he one day :p
anyways wanted to ask about skill/morph reset, if u reset either of them do u keep the skill xp/progress or is it back to zero?
and werewolf or vampire for a dumner DK with "tanky" :D dps build? or maybe none at all lol

When you reset the morphs/skill, you keep the skill points in that line. So let's say you choose Dragon Knight Standard, level it to morph Shifting Standard. Then want to try Standard of Might. If you respect, you will immediately have the skills to morph, but the XP on Shifting Standard stays and you will have to level Standard of Might from zero. This goes for all skills. You won't lose the XP in Shifting Standard. So if you wanted to change back with a respect, Shifting Standard, after selected, will be at the same level you left it. Hope that helps.

Can't help with the Vamp/WW question as I don't use them.

The game is going to completly change in just 2 months or less, so I advise you don't get hooked into the FoTM builds(if that was the plan) as those will change soon.

I keep telling people my Templar is tougher than my DK, and people keep telling me I'm doing it wrong. I really don't think they get how good a Templar is.

The only downside with a Templar is the magicka regen, and that's managable.

But A DK should be able to maintain a higher DPS than a Templar (Templar's DPS is in High end Bursts, while DK can do slightly less for way longer), and that's what you need to focus on, not the short burst the long stream of DPS your DK can do.
