Templar DPS

Hi all, I recently started playing ESO again. I originally started at launch, but quit after getting my Templar to VR2. I leveled him as a tank/dw , but I wanted to change it up and make him a healer.

I didn't run many group dungeons as I leveled. So, to get a feel for them I started leveling my Destro staff to do caster dps first, then switch to heals as I got more comfortable.

Now I have an issue. I love the destro playstyle and want to keep dpsing. But, I have read that Templar are the lowest caster dps.

Should I re-roll as another class to dps? Keep the Templar for healing only? I don't need to be OP, but I also don't like being last. I just want to know if there are any Templar caster dps out there with some advice. Or anyone for that matter.

The main issue with Templar anythings is Magicka Restoration, Essentially a Templar tends to run out of Magicka quickly unless they restore it. As a result the Healer Restoration Staff has tended to be their best build because Circle of Life get's them the best return of Magicka. One of the other issues, which I find as a Templar, is the class skill "Puncturing Strikes" which is instant, cheap, slightly AoE and, morphed to "Puncturing Sweep", healing. It becomes an effort to not include it and spam it at times because of its utility.

I recommend switching to a Magicka DK for your Destro Staff.

You never know if you are going to be the last or the first with every new patch. So just play the class you like.
Any class can have "passable" dps which will be enough for PvE. Just keep in mind, that templar is the best healer so you can always go heal. Also, people will expect you to be a healer sometimes.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'm gonna stick to my Templar and see what 1.6 will bring. From what I can tell many of the skills will be different. I may PL a DK to 50 just in case though.

I play a templar like a battle cleric and its a blast. My rotation for questing is usually 2h/resto staffand use the following rotation.

Dark Flare, reflective light, critical charge, brawler, puncturing sweeps, crescent sweep, dead mobs, repentance.

near zero down time if you wear light armor and have your magicka regen maxed.

And its really fun too!
