Manual Aiming

Should projectiles only hit where they fly like in Skyrim and fps games?
Should we have continuous magic?
Should hitboxes be accurate to exactly where a weapon is swinging rather than a radius?

    Never happen.

    Was going to leave it at that but let's break it down to why, again, for the umteenth time.
    1. Latency. Single player games like skyriim don't have to worry about this at all. You're however playing an mmo where latency and lag have to be taken into consideration.
    2. Ever play a shooter where you see people purposely throttling back connection so they rubberband and lag on purpose?
    3. Unlimited magic means you also have to have unlimited stamina for stamina builds which then turns into unlimited blocking, unlimited healing and unlimited boredom.
    4. If every single creature and player in the ENTIRE game had one hit box for head, one for body, one for each arm and one for each leg that is a crap ton of information to load and track. Once again, latency.
    5. Some shooters do some of this, but most shooters are small mapped arenas, they're not maps the size of Cyrodiil.

    People have been asking this question for 2 years now. Same answer: won't happen. You can't have single player physics and mechanics 100% overlaid into an MMO space.

    I get the latency part, but I think you misunderstood 3 and 4. By continuous magic I did not mean unlimited. I meant DoT skills that you can control, which costs magic/stamina as you use it. And by hitboxes I meant entire hitboxes for, say, a dagger, which should not be hitting 5 meters in front of me, and a deer's hitbox being its entire body, considering I can turn around and my arrow will still hit the deer.

    Hmm I think it's possible and planet side 2 rings a bell. Plus this is slower paced with less stuff blowing up. It's totally doable. I was hoping more aim was involved in this game and not this general direction stuff. I hate dipping around a rock and arrows are still smacking me in the face.

    Well Tera did manual aiming with no problem with latency so cannot really be used as an excuse.

    I played that game with 180ping and it was fine. I played an archer (but not mained) which was the hardest/relied upon class for aiming and did OK... lower the ping and it was still great. I played Sorc/Zerk mostly both quite aim orientated with their melee and spell skills and was great fun... I really missed the combat in that game but other game mechanics made it quite annoying to play.

    So it is possible but probably not by the devs at Zenimax.

    Fair points, I rescind my early arguments and concede that it Could happen.
    However, I stand by the statement that it Won't happen.
