Dragonknight Caster Question

My friend is going to play a DK caster and told me that he did not need any points into Magicka. After some quick research into DK Caster builds it looks like he is correct.

Wouldn't increasing the Magicka stat drastically increase your Spell Power?

I know he will need more survivability from being in light armor, but wouldn't an even split be more appropriate?

I watched the videos and have seen DK casters doing 1400k+ DPS with 49 points into Health .. I just don't understand how neglevting the primary Spell Power stat is a good idea.

You usually make up for stats with enchantments on your gear.

As for having a good hp pool, you can't dps while dead.
This one has an eloquent and well thought out response to tha... Ooh sweetroll!

I guess I was confused as to where the spell power came from. I was under the impression it came directly from the Magicka stat, not the actual magicka pool you cast from.

In this case I understand, as you can pretty easily hit above softcap with light armor passives, enchants and food.

Thanks for the response Shunravi. :)

If you're going with a DK caster, in my opinion (whatever's that worth), you should go with a Dark Elf. Dark Elf because of their affinity with fire and most of the DK's skills are fire related.

Your friend will hit the magicka soft cap with the proper enchants on armor. Now at lower levels I would encourage him/her to put a couple points into magicka as it can help out early on. Maybe his first 5-10 points magicka and the rest health. At max level he will need to respec to all health.

Dark elf is an excellent choice for a DK. My fire mage DK is an Altmer and honestly I do not regret the choice. I have better mana management passives than the Dark Elf. I do lose out on 5% fire spell damage, but I get 4% damage on frost and lightning also, so Crushing Shock (a major dps spell) is better on an Altmer.

So he ended up playing a Templar healer and I rolled as a Fire Mage DK as it sounded interesting! I took the advice here and made a Dark Elf, my first thought was an Altmer for all those magicka passives, but that 7% fire damage just looked too good. My other choice was actually an Imperial for their stamina and health passives and the heal on hit chance. At level 50 we're suppose to put 49 points into Health, I thought the added survivability may trump the magicak or spell damage bonuses.

We played pretty casually through the weekend and got to level 12. I find I am relying mostly on heavy attacks for damage and the mobs are dying before the duration of my fire DoT attack lasts. I have to say starting out with light armor and a staff is not nearly as easy as the other builds I have tried. I do just fine, but without a self heal yet, or any decent AoE yet it is quite rough!

Could anyone give me some tips for lower level combat, I am kinda dreading the first few dungeons until I acquire some of the skills that make this build shine.

    LINK

This is a link to my build I will have at level 15, any thoughts? I am having a rough time with AoE. Verses 1 or 2 mobs is easy, but anymore and combat just gets messy as I lack decent AoE spells still.

Would talons be a decent choice with the DoT morph?

I also have not put a single point into Destruction staff as the skills so far have been lackluster though Force Pulse looks like it would have great synergy with Fiery Breath, but that is still a few levels away.

I would put some points into the destruction staff skill line, crushing shock and elemental ring, will be your go to skills if you continue using a destruction staff. Don't forget to get or have made a destruction staff with the training trait on it so that you can level that skill faster.
