Templar DPS with no spear

So I like to try different builds especially ones that go against the conventional opinion. I am trying out a Templar DPS with out the use of the Aedric Spear line, not because I don't like that line. I use it all the time on my main Templar for soloing and he does decent damage plus has great survivability. I think it will be challenging to do. So far he does fairly well using dawn wrath's damage buffs along with dual wield. Occasionally when things get rough I will drop back to one hand/shield for survivability. But I try to stay in Dual wield as much as possible. He just made level 25 so can't really say the validity of it yet as veteran ranks (soon to be Champion) is the litmus test. I will say he is fun to play, which is my main goal.

Stamina Templars are superior to Magicka Templars DPS-wise. If you try to base your DPS on Dawn's Wrath you won't do well, Dawn's Wrath DPS is pretty bad.

The best Templar DPS builds, as @ThatHappyCat‌ mentions, are in fact Stamina based. I personally have succumbed and stopped trying to make a caster build because Dawn's Wrath is utter garbage. I now run around with a two hander and essentially one class skill on my primary DPS bar: Radiant Aura simply because it is the best Templar DPS skill..........The passive and Active stamina regen is incredible.

I am mostly using Dawn's Wrath for the melee damage boost. I agree that stamina is my most important pool at the moment. I have not gotten Radiant Aura yet as I have gone light on Restoring light but think it will be a good addition to the build, especially once I can morph it to repentance.

Repentance for PVP. Radiant Aura is a lot more Stamina Regen consistently for PVE DPS. I'd still take Puncturing Strikes for soloing. You essentially can commit your entire magicka pool to keeping up Radiant Aura with a Two hander and Bow.

Yes but with Repentance you can regain stamina quickly so regen isn't that big of an issue. One feeling I get and have no empirical data is that the Dawn of Wrath skills, particularly the AE melee boost one seem to be effected by the targets spell resistance. It is hard to say with NPC's as you don't no what their stats are or if they have some special negate skill. It just seems some bosses go down ridiculously easy while others are a struggle.

It is one of the reasons I would love to see dueling just because as a player we could raise or lower stats to gather data on what is working best in a build and how it is effected by different skill/stat adjustments.

Repentence is very situational. It requires dead adds to work and you can only use it once on a dead add. Not too good for pve. Its awsome in group pvp though. Radiant aura is the way to go for stamina dps.

Repentence is kind of overused, and therefore perhaps overrated, recently in pvp. Every dead body can only be used by one player... not enough dead bodies to go around sometimes :disappointed:

Have been thinking about using Aura instead, maybe remove some of the static stam regen from my build and work in some spell cost reduction instead. Then switch to BoL for heals and just keep aura up , when needed, to replace the regen I took out of the build.

but that Repentence is free tho....
and it's sometimes used like a templar teabag which would be missed

    OP topic:
Dawn's Wrath can get you through leveling but, it's just not a top end damage dealer right now.
Stamina is better, dual wield gets better at high levels with the appropriate gear and build. Although I prefer 2HD, I know casual dual wielders pulling over 1k dps.

That is true about Repentance, I actually find it more useful in pve as it can tip a fight if you have saved adds plus good post combat recovery.
Well I am not really focusing on Dawn's Wrath for damage per se but for the buffs it gives to other skills such as dual wield. I generally spam the AE before each whirlwind or the multiple strike attack. I have focused a lot on stamina so the only thing I really watch for is one shot attacks. Which usually happens when I get DW tunnel vision and forget to toss out BoL or hit repentance. It will be interesting to see if it gets buffed up in update 6. I have no specifics other then they say it will be heavy skills revamp over all.

So I got backlash morph last night. I went with the one that upgraded damage as I am DPS focused. It seems to work pretty well. I open with it use my shield charge to close, hit the Dawn of Wrath AE followed by whirlwind, then once the morph discharges its damage I use flurry. The only groups I really struggle with is if it is a tank/healer combo as if I don't remember to block the tank they interrupt flurry so I don't get the full effect. I am not at my NB Dark Elf level but I don't really expect to be with this build. I still think I can add to a group just by the damage bonus and taking out healers/casters quickly.
