Dual wield build help for a noob

Shinimi_Ryuu
Hi,

im completly new to the game to point where im updating it (taking freaking ages lol) and was wondering about how the builds etc work in ESO, as im looking into making a dual wield charater as i love this type of choice atm iv chosen to be a redgaurd but thats as far as iv got with limited knowledge of the in-game choices to make and id like to stay away from toutube as it will ruin my first impressions.

any help on how to go with making a dual wield charater would be greatly appreciated

also was wondering how the dual wielding feels in this game, my idea of one is a fast mover fast hitter to keep out of way of spells and arrows incoming (ofc you can never dodge them all or it will be to overpowered) so does ESO dual wield follow this route or are they different? sort of like half a tank with more dps?

sorry for spelling im terrible at making posts

    First off, welcome :)

First thing to know is that dual wielding uses the resource stamina to do damage, meaning that dual wield skills scale with stamina.

So for this purpose Redguard is a good choice.

Since you also use stamina for dodging you will be able to dodge more often but that is the same resource you use for damage.

As to the fast mover both two-handed and shield get a charge, dual wield does not.

I have found it to be most effective with stealth gameplay (but not necessarily Nightblade), but also very effective for AoE.

I would not call it "half a tank" though, as medium armor is the best choice for a dw stamina build. For PvE the sorcerer offers a skill that heals when you crit that is effective for "tankiness".

oh sounds like its gunna be fun getting the feeling for the right build and is gunna be alot to choose from instead of stuck in 1 path

i was thinking stamina would be main use but not sure what to add first as skyrim you always get choice of HP or stamina to boost each level i guess starting with Stamina then half for HP so for example maybe every 5 levels added for stamina 2 levels added to HP

thats if its still the same as how they did skyrim leveling.

and thank you for welcome ^^

id also like to ask how the solo player style works in this game, most games that say you can solo usually end up with you reaching say lv15 and then forced to partake in group activities to progress with very little to none solo work. i dont mind the occasional group raid etc but not all time

Don't worry about it too much. It does not make a big difference at low levels, and it is possible to respec the attributes later. Just go with your gut feeling and have fun.

You can solo all the way to max level should you wish to. Only the last(latest) zone - craglorn - is designed for a group of players(altho its possible to solo as well if you are good)

iv always like elder scrolls but the MMO left me with doubts as most franchises that use your usual swords magic and bows tend to be same as each other but it seems to me elder found the little hole that was missing

didnt know about respec which is awsome to know can go crazy with mix and matching now hehe

    thanks ^^

I've been using dual wield from V2 - V14 and this was my skill rotation: volcanic rune, rapid strikes, steel tornado, cinder storm and green dragon blood. I will sometimes switch cinder storm for elude or flying blades.

I use all medium armor for the critical increase and stamina recovery. I haven't really played since the 1.5 update so I don't know how well this rotation works now but it wasn't that bad for me before the update.

You shoudl make the most of stamina regen to keep you in the fight as long as possible.
Redguard + NB shadow skills + medium armour will all help with the stamina regen and stamina costs. Stamina resources are fine for burst damage....but regen will keep you going and increase sustained damage.
3 items of Jewellery can be enchanted to increase stamina regen too.

Hard part is pacing rotations after the burst and still keep some stamina when the crap hits the fan. You'll be thankful for the shadow tree too then. Heavy attacks restore stamina...but take time

Fighters guild ultimate will eventually help with weapon damage.

DW is best used for stealth builds, as it lacks any kind of charge/gap closer.

if you plan to use it as your main source of damage, then i strongly suggest you wear most-all medium armor and have lots of stamina. I advise your secondary weapon be a bow, as it will allow you to attack distant enemies without having to run to them and get shot half a dozen times, and bow goes well with medium armor. you could also get a staff i suppose..... but unless you plan to be a healer with your DW spec, bow is best.

    Abilities and class:

i am currently using DW with both of my NIghtblades(NBs) and my new sorcerer: it seems to do well with a NB, but idk how it does with a Dragonknight(DK) and a Templar. I use blood craze(morph of twin slashes) for the DoT damage and the self heal it gives. I use Aspect of fear to disrupt/annoy enemies that like to block the entire battle, Sparks to dodge melee attacks(sparks is awesome, iv been able to stand up to almost everyone i face with it, i strongly suggest you try it once you unlock it) I use killers blade as the finisher, and the left over ability i switch between mage light and purge. my ultimate is veil of bladeS(consuming darkness morph) it has saved my butt many times.

My secondary is a bow, which i use when an enemy is a long distance from me, as i have no gap closers i can use to chase them. I also use it to get off the first stealth hit, which does a good chunk of damage. for my bow, i use killers blade, dark cloak(morph of shadow cloak) funnel health/snipe(i switch between them every now and then) magelight(so when i switch my weapons i dont have to keep re-applying it) and Venom arrow(morph of poison arrow) which is a good spammable ability and good for interrupting abilties like snipe and crystal frags.
    hope i helped.

My khajiiti DW sorc is very fun to play. Medium armor, two daggers, high weapon crit chance, moderate spell crit chance.

    Crit Surge, Crystal, Flying Blades
With the above, the other two skills are optional, which is great for me fleshing out the skill lines I didn't concentrate on before vet ranks...

With the high crit I do accidently pull single aggro from most base line DPS builds and a few sword and board tanks, so hardened ward and annulment/bound aegis/(similar shield) are sometimes required to slot if there isn't a dedicated healer around.

    Take your pick of ultimate.
