Question about skill leveling...

Hi, relatively new player here...
If I simply spend the skill point to unlock a skill, do I have to place it on my bar in order for that skill to receive XP and level up?

Also, once you morph a spell...what benefits do you gain for continuing to level that morphed skill? Increased dmg or whatever?

Yes, to both of your questions, also, if you are leveling a weapon skill you might want to get that weapon with the training trait.
