Thwarting the Aldmeri Dominion- Alik'r Desert

So this is my second time running through the Daggerfall Questline. I'm in the Alik'r Desert, finished the whole Stibbon's mini-sidequest, and just finished helping Lady Laurent close the portal and stop the Aldmeri from invading. Now, I distinctly remember last time I went through that when I emerged from the dungeon, Daggerfall troops had arrived and stopped the Aldmeri. But this time, they were still out there running around and I had to fight my way through.

Last time I gave Stibbons the tools and this time I gave them to Tamien. Does that make a difference? Or is the ending bugged? Or, as it's quite possible, am I remembering wrong?

Consider that this quest got a fix in 1.5.2 but instead there is a new bug: Tamien is missing, so you can give just Stibbons the tools.
I'm waiting this to be fixed to finish the quest so I can't say if it's related or not.
I completed the other quest and AD troops are still around.

Did you find Tamien in the location indicated by compass or somewhere else?

I did this quest early this morning for a vr9 quest. Tamien was up on the platform at the beginning of the quest however after I had the tools he was missing so I had to give them to Stibbons.

I'm waiting for Tamien to be back from Oblivion or wherever he went.

I'm still waiting... Patiently. No idea what is taking them this long to implement a fix. Or maybe I should just give the tools to Stibbons. I hardly know either of them anyway so what does it matter. Perhaps they should also give us the option of giving the tools to Lady Laurent ourselves.

I've done both and....

It really makes no difference. The one who doesn't get the tools is obviously a little annoyed and the one who gets them is happy, but Stibbons is back when we next meet Lady Laurent again, and we never see Tamien again. At least, not as far as I can tell.
