Why isn't impulse blockable?

AoE should be blockable, in Mantikora, the ground stomp AoE he does, you have to block it

Nope, only Magika based AOE is unblockable. This coupled with the crazy broken spell penetration mechanics and casting while holding block are a big part of why Magika builds > Stamina builds.

So if they changed blocking so it could block anything (all AOE's, arrows etc) but only if your facing the source (180 instead of 360 blocking)
    Would that be more fair?

it would be better but i would not call it fair. Casting while holding block is a bigger issue imo. And never forget the totally stupid spell penetration mechanics. I would say that needs fixed. i can't understand why that has yet to be addressed this far into the game. Moreover, it should be paramount to actually making magika stamina balanced. The only reason i can think of that spell penetration has yet to be addressed this far into live, is utter incompetence.

I agree that it should be possible to block all sources of AoE damage. This would be a great mean to mitigate the damage dealt by AoE skills, which are too easy to land in many different situations.

However, if all the AoE skills had a cast time, and could therefore be interrupted, they would not have to be blockable.

I'd love to test the following scenario:
    - AoE DPS skills have a cast time (0.7 or 0.8 s)
    - AoE DPS skills do not have AoE caps
    - AoE DPS skills can be interrupted but they cannot be blocked.

being unblockable is a concern. But, imho, the bigger issue is with just a couple pieces of light armor and sharpened trait on your weapon, your spell penetration will be well over your targets' spell resistance HARD CAP. crazy, isn't it?
If the Devs really wanted to balance stam/mag, this should have been the FIRST thing to fix. Having 6,000+ spell penetration is a common thing.

But in the update 5, pulsar has a 6 m radius, while steel tornado has a 11 m radius. And that makes the difference.

I've tried the other morph of whirlwind, whirling blades, which has a 5 m radius, and I could hardly hit more than 2 or 3 enemies while fighting against another raid. There is a great chance that the new version of pulsar is not as interesting as steel tornado. And there is a great chance that magical classes demand a return to the previous situation concerning pulsar.

Yeah because the full penetration 6m is more worse that a blocked stamina eating ability what is blockable ehh???? Pulsar has debuff too... pretty awesome on. Till they dont fix magicka OPness including pulsar, and the broken and OP spell penetration, Pulsar will always be more interesting that steel tornado what is a big joke.
Stamina AOE is only "good" when a mindless, comon swarm+aoe spamming staffer running in and you spam tornado. Because that mindless fgpire doesnt blocking.
Do you ever wondered why they dont using tornado when they swarming? Because its blockable so the dmg is really bad. But you cant block pulsar, ring etc...
Another reason: Stamina: used to break CC, used to block, used to roll, used to sprint. Magicka: used to spamm the hell out of server. Magicka will always be OP because ZoS wanted that, and screwed up the mechanics of game. Ruined an ES game with this kind of crap.

ZoS love AOE spamming, they love magic, and they hate stamina.
    They just LOVE magic.
What is unblockable skill what you cant remove? Curse... its MAGIC, it has good damage, its ranged.
ZoS is insane and does a pretty bad job about ballancing game.

Some thins should not be blockable, eg seeige aoe. And 180 block would be good in some ways, but in the end we all will get cc 10 time as much and the forums will cry a river. God forbid we adapt.

you never went into how it wouldnt be fair.

as long as you are facing something you can block it, 9 times out of ten that would mean that as long as you know roughtly where your enemy is you can block it, and only when you are out numbered and have to pick a target to block against would you be unable to easily just block anything coming at you..

the change to a limited arc would only affect builds designed to 1vX.. outside of that only really close range fighters who focus entirely on root+manuvering would be able to potentially take advantage of this...
I play every class in every situation. I love them all.

That wasn't a suggestion, that was a fact.

Spells that are PBAOE are unblockable. Stamina Skills that are PBAOE are blockable.

Meaning Cleave (stamina physical) and whirlwind (stamina physical) are blockable, while impulse (magicka spell) and inhale (magicka spell) are unblockable. Blazing spear and sap essence (I think) seem to be the only exceptions, because they either hate NB's and temps or those are the only two they got right

Its a major flaw that has not even been addressed by ZoS devs. More accurately, ignored because ZoS devs are all dress wearing wizards who want it to remain on top, and have to this day been reluctant to make any kind of buffs to any kind of stamina ability, and even reluctant to make any nerfs to any kind of magicka build.

Actually Impulse, Pulsar and Elemental ring are all 6 meters on PTS as anyone who tested them can testify. True, it shows 8M in the skills window but once you add that skill to your ability bar it properly displays as 6M when you mouse over it on your skill bar.

Using Impulse on Live will create a huge fire blast radiating out from the caster.

If you go by central animation size, the radius of PTS impulse would be more like 3 meters. If anything all they really did was make it easier to see whats going on through your impulse spam.
