Alternate items carried while weapon is sheathed

It would be awesome to be able to have an item auto-equipped while our weapon is sheathed. An extra section under Weapons called “Alternate” or something with 2 slots (one for each hand) that allows the player to equip any number of passive items that will stay in hand as we move around the world. I was thinking this would be useful for items such as Torches (one handed) and Treasure Maps (two handed and we could look at them as we try to match up the scenery without going back into our inventory) or vanity character items such as a pet bird perched on a forearm or a mug of beer.

Some items, such as the torch, could be equitable in a weapon slot so a player could have a one handed sword/torch combination.

Just a few thoughts!
