Sorcerer AOE spec question

Quick question:

I had been using:
Shattering Prison, Lightning Flood, Wall of Elements, Magelight
as my key AOE build

Since I got Impulse I switched to:
Shattering Prison, Critical Surge, Boundless Storm, Shattering Prison, Impulse, Magelight

The idea in the latter case is to bump crit chance a bunch, get heals from Critical Surge, increase survivability with Boundless Storm, and spam impulse for the finish.

So now my question. I will likely do a respec in the next couple of weeks and have been thinking about dropping Lightning Flood and Wall of Elements. (currently L42). Are there parts of the game later on where they are useful and I should hold on them or not?

FYI: If you have a better AOE configuration I would be curious to hear your suggestions on that as well.

here is what i do. using 2 destruction staffs.

Ice Blockade, Lightning Blockade, Lightning Flood, Pulsar spam untill dead.

i can also open with Restraining Prison or forgo Pulsar and Lightning Flood in favor of just standing in place and using the double blockade.

All that stuff seems very slow to me. All the things you should be killing by yourself should go down to just Pulsar spam. Critical surge will keep you alive even without all that extra stuff.

I would definitely keep lightning flood. It is a large AOE that you can cast at range, and it can proc disintegrate!

Lightning Flood should in theory have a much higher damage per cast and damage per magica then impulse spam, as well as build ultimate much faster due to it's insane hit rate. However it may actually lower your burst damage depending on how fast you use the ground targeting.

I removed the spell after I respected. It doesn't do much damage and in order to proc disintigrate the mob has to have low health so using at range isn't much of a benefit.

I run a very similar bar. I would ditch Shattering Prison, it does have is uses for really large groups, but it's pretty expensive. I use crystal shards instead and some times deadric mines. Impulse will proc the instant cast often, so you never have to let of the block button as you kill the mobs. Once I hear it proc, I cast it. Pulsar is a bit OP, so I try to change it up unless I am trying to hurry or doing a group dungeon.
