Improving Stamina Builds

This isn't just my suggestion i have looked around / seen other threads. However can't remember names / sources so link them below.

What is wrong with Stamina based builds? (IMO and many others)

The Stamina pool is used for too many different things:
  • Running
  • Breaking free
  • Dodge Roll
  • Blocking
  • And Stamina Abilities.

Now the magicka pool is used just for skills.
Stamina users have trouble using a majority of stamina abilites where as magicka 7/7 light arm's have no trouble at all for magicka management and blocking/dodging.

What is Zenimax doing to improve stamina builds?

Well they are making heavy attacks return stamina (No staves).
I believe they are also buffing some stamina abilities.

What do I / others suggest to improve stamina builds?

Zenimax adding the heavy attack stamina return will be great but how about if they adding another resource pool.

Now before you go Woah woah they cant do that I've already put all my attribute points into health ( LOL ). These resource pool will be scaled off what your stamina stats are e.g. max stamina and regen.

Also lets say you have 1000 stamina and 100 stamina regen then maybe the new resource should be 25% less or more (this would need testing for balance purposes).

Now what name for this resource, i have read some good names for this here are some suggestions:
  • Strength
  • Vigour
  • Power

The new pool will handle stamina based skills and possibly blocking (zenimax could test this via the PTS)

Discuss?

    Give stam a heal.

Use magicka to block abilities costing magicka, instead of stamina.
Add % damage reduction to heavy armor.
    Add block penetration to 2H.
Opinions are like buttholes : Everybody has one, and they usually stink.

    3 things to reduce stamina/magicka imbalance :
    - Use magicka to block abilities costing magicka, instead of stamina.
    - Add % damage reduction to heavy armor.
    - Add block penetration to 2H.

Could increase the amount of stam available in line with Health, instead of Magicka. Would need to scale stam based damage accordingly of course.

There are many options available. The buffs provided so far are so flipping trivial, it's like they're holding a crumb for the donkey to chase. You need to look close to see if they'r e even offering anything.

The thing for me is this:
You can put 5 magicka on your skill bar and restore magika with a staff. You have 100% of your stamina available for defence (roll, block, etc.) and 100% magicka available for attack/heal. Obviously you can't do this with a stamina build.

My suggestion is to modify a passive (probably a medium armour one) so that a player can draw from the magicka pool to roll, block, bash, sprint, sneak. This can be a % for each medium armour piece. We can argue about the right %, but let's say 5%. With 7 pieces, a roll etc. would use 35% magicka and 65% stamina.

This still wouldn't make the stamina build exactly equal to a magicka build, but it brings them closer without any other major changes.

Please, not this new resource idea AGAIN.

    It won't help.

Rolling/break free should cost a set amount of stamina, not % of total pool, which would give stamina builds with their superior regen an advantage in this area.

I think this is a great idea and should be looked into. As the OP stated stamina based builds are far behind magicka builds. If not then something needs to be done about the current stamina system.

Just make stamina scale like health ie 150% more than magicka. This would buff all stam abilities and give more resources to block dodge etc.

Right so for those how tank and need to use magicka for defensive abilities and stamina for ransack , Blocking and Absorb Magic you want to make all this drama for tanks because you are equating block with lower dps.

Its simple to fix this issue - make stamina abilities hit hard - very hard - increase their base DPS and problem solved . Ill show you the math

Abilty x = 300 dmg , y = 200 , z= 200 : They are rotated once in each round each rotation takes 5 seconds. Assuming 100% stamina availability for the rotation (pots etc) - you get 700 damage every 5 seconds - 8400 per minute or 140dps

    Double the base ability so x = 600, y = 400 , z = 400. You get 1400 every 5 seconds - 16800 per minute or 280dps.

This is how they can fix the imbalance plain and simple - increase base value of dps abilities on stamina builds.

The only issue is that will impact on survivability and balance in these builds and they don't want to tip the balance the wrong way hence the tinkering thus far.

The reason that stamina regenerated so much faster in previous ES games is because it was used for sprinting, blocking, and melee attacks.

In ESO, stamina and magicka regenerate at the same speed unless you alter that with gear or passives, which is really the biggest issue with stamina currently IMO, alongside dodging/break free not costing a set amount.

If stamina regenerated twice as fast as magicka baseline, and also from enchants, then I think the current system would work just fine, as it always has in ES games.

The other thing is dodge/break free need to cost a set amount of stamina. That would give stamina players a big advantage when it came to avoiding CC and dodging attacks. Currently, dodge and break free use a % of your stamina(I think anyway), so you are actually punished for stacking stamina! This is such an obvious problem, they really should have changed it.

I hadn't realised that this is how it worked; madness. Other skills have set resource costs so it stands to reason that these should too!
