Kids in Tamriel

Turin_Turambar
So far, I find it a bit odd that there are no NPC kids in Tamriel. All children I have found are adult children. What is your opinion?

There should be kids in ESO, it's just so weird there isn't any. I recently tried FF14 and they have children of all races and I thought it just makes the world seem more alive and vibrant with children running around, I even had some quests where I had to give them toys to encourage them to learn a dance.

Elder Scrolls game tend to have children in them but i guess in ESO they tried to save memory for things that mattered more. Both for the servers and our own machines.

Personnaly i don't care if there are kids or not though i have to say that it's a bit weird when you see a women cry the loss of the daughter and said daughter looks like she's the exact same age as the mother lol.

Their absence freaks me out. I also worry for the next generation when this one dies out. What's the point of saving them all if they don't get with the baby making?

Most do, all do not. This is like Oblivion all over again.

And I picked the third option as I recall all the children in Skyrim were humans with the same model. We could have some little Khajiit running around.

The resource manager already has enough trouble loading all of the assets; we don't need to add dozens or hundreds more to each town that add nothing to the story.

Yeah, I know; I'm being a grump. If they fix resource management such that it can handle it, sure -- as long as there's more diversity than in Skyrim.

It is kind of weird to me that there aren't any kids in ESO. I mean, I understand that it wouldn't be as simple to add them in as it was for Skyrim where they could get away with all of the kids being the same race, and I know that one of M'aiq's lines in ESO is a direct reference to the lack of kids in the game, but still.

Haven't you noticed buckets indoors? Yeah, every room with a bucket in it is also a bathroom.

I`m not against adding children to ESO as long as they do it right . No more using the same model for both guys and girls . If that`s the only way they`re willing to do it then might as well not bother at all .

But we have to think about all the work involved . They not only would have to create many different models for both male and female of all races . Plus if you want to make them look even more realistic then you have to make some taller and some shorter unless you want to pretend that all children in Tamriel were born the same year . And on top of all that then ZoS would have to hire a whole new bunch of voice actors .

Now if you`re gonna give yourself all that trouble, might as well make it worth your while, why not add a few quests given by those children instead of simply adding them for aesthetic purposes. Make a kid give you a quest to look for his/her dog or cat. Things like that .

So yeah when you start looking at the big picture and think of all the things that such a project would involve, let`s just be realistic and not get our hopes up too high lol.

Not if there is going to be a justice system and you can kill NPCs, dont want to see children getting killed.
Also, unless the NPC serves a purpose it's only going to add unnecessary lag, my own kids impact my gaming experience enough without someone elses adding to it thank you very much.

Yes, it adds more live to the world of Tamriel.

I understand people are afraid with the justice system people will kill children (i would). But just like Skyrim, they can make the children non attackable. If somoene kills an NPC it would be cool the kids would hide in allays, or behind tree or so.

It can be done and it would be cool.

    Player housing-adopt a child yeah

I would like them, yes. Adding children would add a little portion of Tamriel that is missing.

I chose no for the simple matter of practicality. I understand why they don't have them in. They had finite time vs their resource access to work on this project, and needed to get it out at the balancing point. Now, they have a LOT of bug fixes, exploits, and balance issues to address, on top of quality of life changes and animation/texture updates.

So, speaking practically, having people working on designing custom models/textures/animations for children doesn't seem reasonable.

But someday, a couple years down the line when the bulk of important work is done, I think this would be a fine thing to pursue. One more little piece of polish to add to the game.

I think the first couple years of ESO is going to be mostly critical fixes. Balancing of unanticipated overpowered skill combos, refining of "after questing end game", etc. I really feel this is a game that will be around for years to come, and it's going to develop accordingly -- aged like a fine wine. The luxury touches like this will come later.

Do I feel they're needed? No. They game functions just fine without them. But they would add a little extra flair. Need and want are mutually exclusive, contrary to first world thinking.

Even easier, NPC in ESO can not be attacked, most don't draw agro or attack enemies either. Shopkeepers and quest NPC would anyway work just as today to prevent griefing, same with kids.
Main reason they are left out is that they would add extra models who have the character customization system.
And yes they would add more life to towns, quite possible to keep them out of the conflict areas so they are just present in safer areas.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

Yes there should be NPC kids in ESO, Adults don't just Appear one day lol but mainly it makes the world more believable , but in certain area's some of the children should be Little Hunters depending on location After all we are in Tamriel which can be a dangerous place to live lol

What about all the child bandits too. I think it would be rather awesome to have them fighting with their mothers and fathers. It would present a moral dilemma for (probably very few) players; clearing a bandit camp only to come across an armed young boy running at you with a sword.

The game has been given a mature rating, so I don't see why not.

If I had not seen previous, very creepy, threads on this subject I would have voted yes as it would make the world more alive.

But given that people would want them killable (really???) or find ways to use emotes to appear to be doing other unpleasant things to them I vote no.

Someone needs to create a game to satisfy these people & make it easier for the police to monitor them for future real world 'acting out'.

Absolutely, I'd love to see kids. I want anything that helps make Tamriel look more like a living world, and kids are an excellent addition. As a realist, I don't expect them any time soon, but eventually, after a few years I think it would be great if ZOS added them.
